I don't know about a lot of you out there but when Aslan won that Asylum ball, my first thought was appropriate! What a Rush it was through Icemans cold veins!

O,,, I,,,, I ,, rode that HIGH for several weeks, but now I feel down, and depressed?? Why,,, maybe because he actually won! I thought it might go on a little bit longer... maybe a decade or so?

Now I have this empty hollow feeling like when you get what you have always WANTED, , only to find it was the WANTING, not the actual having that made it MAGIC!

Aslan,,,, are you ok.... after it sunk in, did you need to get HELP??? If you need someone to talk to,,,, I am available,,,, but promise me this bud.

Keep it in a Reader's Digest Format! I am much older then you in years, (even though I have the body of a 30 year old Olympian), my days are numbered as is all of ours!!

I just need to know IF YOUR OK!??

I know what help's me is Tony The Tiger! Get a box, fill a 32 oz bowl, cut a full ripe banana, into 1/4 inch slices, then put a layer of whip Cream on top, (completely cover the surface), sprinkle some M@Ms, on top of the whip cream, (not to worry they will not melt, but float for a good period of time), then top it off with Red Ripe Cherry!

Its a quick fix, but can save a PERSON"S LIFE! Then seek HELP!

ARE YOU OK,,,,, Ice

For some reason you have grown on me, like Frost Bite!

I haven't won a ball yet. There was a guy on this forum that won a ball with just 150 posts. I got a few more then that but still am waiting to see if I will ever win one. I have been on this earth for 67 years and have yet to win a contest I enter. Some folks are just lucky.

It is nice of bowlingboards to give a ball away every week. It is something extra we can all hope for every Monday. I agree with Iceman about the fun of the chase.

150 posts that's nothing.

There was one guy that won, he only made two posts ever. His post that won only had 2 words in it and it was the only post he made the week of the contest.

His winning post was " anyone? Thanks"

Yes it can be done,,, but this has only happened less then 6 times I believe. I won a good looking plastic ball in less then a month, and then won the Beatdown, a great ball almost a year later....so I have two! I gave the spare ball to young man at the amf where I bowl! It was a good looking son of a gun, but I had a spare ball already,,, ..

I hope to win twice it's been about a year for me. As most of the older members on here know I won and gave it to a teammate that needed a new ball. In fact I have won a ton of balls in the year that I have been bowling and gave them all away. It started with the RG disturbed that's won here. I won a storm Lucid that my wife got. A RG totally defiant. a hammer cold blood "had to get naked to win that one" just won 2 C300 freeze balls last month one the wife got and one I donated to local JR bowler. I also gave 3 DV8 balls that where less then a year old to JR bowlers when I moved to 16# in March. So now I'm out to win for my self ;)

I had NO IDEA that you have never won a ball!! THAT'S Just not right!!

How people win balls and why is ONE HUGE PUZZLE, that no one knows the answer 2!!! Maybe Rich could give us the logic as to how one is truly selected. Its his site, he has the power to give it to anyone he choses? Is it Truly a random computer generated winner? Or do you select a winner because of their good looks, like in my case????

Just wondering... If you win one of the weekly bowling ball contests, is it possible to win again?

1) No. I don't think you can win twice. They gave Iceman 2 balls thinking he'd stop posting and it didn't work so they stopped that practice.

2) Hammer will never win because if he wins anything other than a Hammer, he'll just constantly complain that it's not a Hammer ball.

3) Hampe has probably been drawn 3 times…but International Shipping??? Yeah…bowling ball.com ain't stupid. To ship a bowling ball overseas will cost literally 3x what the ball is worth.

4) Well Iceman…to answer you question…

The first pinnacle is behind me. First I had to survive the "Great Aslan Purge" where I was 4 people shy of being permanently banned from the site. Then, I had to convince the site that I am a "valued member" of the site (their words). Then I finally win a bowling ball after setting the record for most posts without a ball win.

Now…strictly concerning the site…well, I have a little tournament (the Virtual Bowling Tour) that I am director of…so thats taking a lot of time. Mostly dealing with whiners and complainers….which I think is prepping me for becoming a site moderator when Bowl1820 finally gets sick of this site and jumps ship over to that "other" site.

I also have a small video project in the works…where I'm going to collaborate with MWhite to put together a little instructional video. Gonna drill up 2 of the same ball (same brand, same model, same weight) and then show how different of a reaction you can get. Put it on Youtube…as sort of an informational item.

But yeah…other than that…just working on actual bowling. Trying to achieve that elusive 190 average. Trying to get that first 300 ring. That first 800 series. Then on to fame and fortune as I focus on winning tournaments, the USBC open, etc.. If the PBA is still around, maybe join up and set some records…then die tragically.

chapter THREE
How to come up with great excuses for getting beat using the wrong adjustments, and improper ball selection!

The end times are nigh!

Actually, I'm interested in seeing how your video project turns out. Will you be doing the demo, or will you have someone else be shooting them? Only reason I ask - you're a fairly low-rev bowler and it could be difficult to see the difference compared to a higher rev person.

Of course I will be doing the demo as they are my bowling balls and will be drilled to fit my game (or lack there of) and my specifications. So, you may see less of a difference in eventiual outcome than a higher rev bowler would. Rob said the same thing concerning symmetric vs. assymetric cores. He didn't see a difference at all throwing his way, his style...but felt that a higher rev or thumbless bowler may have seen a much different result.

IF it happens and goes well...but a marked difference isn't noticed...I could always do a follow-up video where I have Mike throw them...being a much higher rev bowler...and see if a difference is noticeable.

It's an interesting project because on the one hand...we'll try to push the envelope using drilling layouts and surfaces to make them very different...maybe more different than a person usually would. On the other hand, as with all drilling projects, ultimately I will need to use them effectively at some point so the end result will need to lend itself a bit to my game (or lack there of). I liken it to the pros that will have two of the same ball, one pin up and one pin down. We may not see much of a difference if we drill a ball pin up and another pin down...but a pro on tougher lanes with higher revs will. Because my revs are so low...Mike may need to do a little "more" to get them to behave differently than a guy with high revs. Thats my preliminary thinking anyways. It's sort of an "experiment" so I'm not sure how it'll turn out.

It's not your tournament, it's "our" tournament.
I said "I have a tournament that I am director of"....I didn't say it's MY tournament.

I mean, I appreciate the initiative to try and do something like that to help others and try and find out more about how balls work, but....

There's a reason the USBC made a robot for that kind of stuff :D, AND they have access to people who have 100x more experience and consistency than Aslan.

Maybe the video should be how to take a great bowler and put them in a bad house with bad conditions that barely pass USBC standards and how someone who can't throw one ball the same way twice beats them in consecutive matches - now that would be a great video. Maybe you could bowl at the earthquake museum in Anchorage to make it a little more interesting - pot holes & debris on the lanes and the whole time the whole lane is shaking with the 3.1 magnitude quake. Maybe a guest appearance by the bowler who spray cans all over the lanes but still manages to defeat the great one - the wayne gretzky of bowling.

Yeah...pet peeve #304....why doesn't the USBC actually DO something with that robot!?? They HAVE it...but like 3x a year they actually turn it on. I'd LOVE for the USBC to use the robot to do something like this...but they don't. So that leaves it up to amateurs like me to try to fill in the gaps.

bad conditions

See, there is where my difference of opinion is. What are "bad conditions"? I don't think there is such a thing. I think you bowl in whatever conditions are presented to you. Granted, I wouldn't extend that to a "miature golf" style of bowling like the silly PBA obstacle course. But on the lanes I have thus far defeated said MWhite...neither were particularly "unfair". They were just not optimum to match up to his bowling style.

I think 2 of the AMF houses near me are HORRIBLE to bowl on....and I thought the lanes in Vegas were rediculous. But they weren't "bad conditions". They were just "bad" for me because I have too much speed and not enough revs to see movement on heavy oil. MW wants to claim that there was something completely out of whack with the universe on both occasions of his defeat...but it just aint so.

The bottom line is his style is rev dependent and more lane dependent than mine. So slight changes in lane conditions will drastically affect him where as I may not notice them as much. I've noticed this personally as I've transitioned from a high-speed tweener to a low speed stroker. When I lofted it 12-15 feet...20mph...it really didn't matter how the first 40ft of the lane were oiled/not oiled. Now that I'm laying it down sooner...lane changes/oil patterns are more impactful on my shot. I'm hitting my mark (within 1-3 boards) VERY consistently now...yet I'm seeing the ball hit anywhere from center of the headpin to just missing the headpin to the right. Suddenly the lane conditions and oil movement is "coming into play" where as before it just didn't.

My completely unprofessional and far lower than bronze level coaching certification opinion on MWhite's game is...he has an excellent release and understanding of "balling down" and utilizing his "arsenal"...BUT...he seems either unable (possibly injury related) and/or unwilling to change "non-ball related" parts of his game to adapt to unfavorable lane conditions. He does great at moving laterally and getting different angles into the pocket (definitely can play inside FAR better than I can)...but when it comes time to change speeds or loft to adapt to the lanes...thats where he struggles.

Case in point...we have a sub on our league team. He bowls mostly in a heavy oil synthetic house and came over to sub for us on wood lanes a couple weeks ago. In Game 1, I "barely" beat him like 190-184. In Game 2 he threw a near perfect game in the 260s then in game 3 he was in the 240s. He commented that Game 1 he had to get a feel for the wood lanes, but by the end of Game 1 he knew how much speed he had to add to his shot to compensate. So, the point is, good bowlers learn to compensate and adjust to adverse conditions. That guy is a 192 average bowler just like MWhite. Personally I think MWhite is better in terms of overall talent...but this guy is more able to adjust to lane conditions.

Thats my attempt at being Randy Peterson and giving the "color commentary"...I'm sure MWhite would have different opinions. But I AM looking forward to a Mudpuppy/MWhite challenge...if we could ever get them in the same place. THAT would be worth paying $70 to watch on xtraframe!!!

I'm a totally different person all together in real life. The thing about the internet is you can expose your mind a little bit more than you can in person. The same thoughts are there you just don't express them the same or even at all.

Ultimately my point in all of this is I know how I bowl. I am good with it. I get advice from certain people on my leagues and of course my pro shop guy. That's all I feel I need. I know I am inconsistent and I know why - I don't bowl enough to be consistent. But I really don't have the time and I really don't need to go any further with my game. In the fall / winter I bowl 1-2 times a week. I feel I do fairly well for the amount I bowl and the effort I put into it. It kind of goes with my life philosophy - I don't want to be great at anything - I want to be good at everything I do and I want to do as much as possible. So I have fun bowling, hunting, with photography, riding motorcycles, playing sports, with my kids, brewing beer, cooking / smoking / grilling food. My goal at everything is to have fun with it. And for the most part I do.

Well, you better bring your A game. I think you're giving ZDawg 51 pins per game handicap after that blistering month 1 performance.

A game it was not. Full report in the VBT thread. I couldn't remember who I bowled so thanks for the reminder. I may have given Z Dawg a gift this month.

I love your humor, Mudpuppy. Do not ever change.

Goshdanggit. Now you've encouraged him.

2 years ago a guy told Iceman he was funny and look what happened. Now we're gonna have Mudpuppy writing cliff notes and posting spray paint videos from now till 2016.

I suppose that answers the question of this thread. That's what's left after you've won a ball.

Besides Hammer balls I wouldn't mind a Roto Grip or a Storm ball. The way I look at it is a free ball is a free ball and it doesn't matter what ball manufacturer made it.
