The Hyroad Solid is quite a different beast when compared to the HyRoad Pearl or original HyRoad. The HyRoad Solid has a very strong midlane roll that lets its excel on heavier patterns. Even with the weaker drill, and adding a light coat of polish followed by being hit lightly with a 3000 abralon pad, it still properly read a fresh shot at a time when anything shinier was too skid/flip and sensitive to over/under, while still conserving enough energy to go through the pins very well.
This ball and the Optimus are perfect companions - when the HyRoad Solid starts to read the lane too early, a switch to the Optimus (which is an easy 4-5 feet further down the lane) yields a strong backend reaction to take advantage of the friction. The WipeOut has similar roll characteristics to the HyRoad Solid, but is a good 3-4 boards weaker overall.
