WIth the recent news that Bowlmor will be purchasing Brunswick bowling centers I think that this is a necessary thread to have. If this thread gains traction I will put together a blog or some other post so that we can have a single list of nationwide bowling centers that are not owned by Bowlmor. While I'm tyring to remain positive and hope that the end game is more along the lines of converting a portion of centers to "entertainment and party focused" locations while retaining some locations as "traditional" centers that may focus on weekend parties I think it is best for us to remian informed of other options.
If you could post to this thread any centers you are aware of that are not Bowlmor owned in the following format I will begin to make a master list organized by state. You can also make additional comments if you feel that they are informative.
Arizona, Gilbert 85298: Flipside (Family Entertainment Center - does have Sports shots)

Arizona, Mesa 85208: Mesa East Bowl (Family Owned, have heard positive things for league bowling)
Arizona, Phoenix 85003: Lucky Strike (Upscale party bowling center, does not oil lanes and does not have leagues)
Arizona, Phoenix 85020: Let it Roll Bowl (Never bowled there, reviews are positive for one-time party bowlers, negative reviews for leagues)
Arizona, Tempe 85284: Main Event Entertainment (No Leagues, appears to be pricey)

You're not doing your part. We can't name the non-blow-Mor centers in SoCal for you... ;-)

There are 14 Brunswick chain centers in So Cal area. I haven't a clue how many AMF's

I already made a thread about that. Feel free to go to it. It's titled "Brunswick Corporation to Sell Retail Bowling Business to Bowlmor AMF". Under General Bowling Discussions

This thread is actually different. This is a listing of centers that ALazySavage is trying to get together of non Bowlmor AMF centers.

@ AsLan: You don't have to list all of the bowling centers in SoCal that are not Bowlmor, if you have experience with any of those bowling centers though that would be great. Both positive and negative experiences are accepted. I think this is just a good list to start having handy in the instance that the bowling landscape starts going downhill due to the Bowlmor situation.

Aslan should have a pretty good list of centers for quite a few states as he gathered info for participants in the BowlingBoards.com Virtual Tournament.

For example:

Temecula Lanes

AMF Friendly Lanes
However, to verify those would mean to go to about 65 websites to try and find out.
As to personal opinion??
Concourse Bowling Center, Arlington Lanes, Forest Lanes, Fountain Bowl, Brunswick Classic Lanes, and Tustin Lanes are nice.
Titan Lanes is pretty cArpy but it's just a 6-lane center in a college building.
Temecula Lanes is kinda a joke...it's half "entertainment area" and half bowling area. It's what I would expect of a Bowlmor place but it's not Bowlmor.
AMF Carter and AMF Riverside are kinda junky, and the oil/lane conditions are way too heavy for my liking. Irvine Lanes is nicer but also way too much oil for my liking.
AMF Friendly Lanes has been doing a ton of rennovation once Bowlmor bought them out, but when I went there I spent 20 minutes waiting for a person to come to the counter and there was nobody working in the snack bar...so staffing/customer service probably an issue. Never bowled at La Habra300 but their customer service (as well as Concourse) was good.
And customer service with both Friendly AND Carter are in question since AMF links their centers on the website...so if you try and contact them via the website it goes to corporate AMF and they are "supposed to" forward it to the center you are interested in or one near you. Well, I waited 2 months and never got a response...so if you want to reach them...better call them. And, all 3 of the AMFs mentioned (Friendly, Carter, and Riverside) have changed their hours so much of their during the week day bowling is gone.

This is my experience with the AMF Richardson center I have been bowling a "Sport" shot league this summer. I put quotes around the "Sport" because the condition hasn't been the same each week. Supposed to bowl same pattern 4 weeks then change to another. Each week has been an adventure finding what they did compared to what the lane sheet says the pattern is. Counter/service help is non-existent, and when they are at the counter, have absolutely no clue about how to do anything. First and last time bowling league at that particular center.
