WOOD vs Synthetic

Last week at the 1957 Plattsburg wood lanes I notice this:

1. It was oiled the day before, and a kid's party rented the alley that day, so we started bowling on it well over 24 hours later.

2. Chris said it was their longest pattern 40 feet. It bowled GREAT!! I was playing the 10 board, and at the end of my 8 games, only
moved 3 boards,,, that's with 6 bowlers bowling 8 games a piece.

3. Wood must some how hold up MUCH better then synthetic in regards to not having to move as much.
On synthetic I would have had to move much more then what I did on wood.

Could it be that the wood retains more oil because of its ability to absorb oil where as systhentic, get pushed off surface? I know the
Balls absorb the oil,,, but it just seems to me that a shot holds up longer on wood!

4. Maybe this alley is and exception, but it holds a shot a lot longer then the fake stuff!! I am not knocking synthetic,, its been very VERY good to
Iceman this last year!

Question: Do you find that your averages are better on wood, vs synthetic? I guess the only way for me to find out would be to bowl on that
step back in time bowling alley in Plattsburg!! I am still thinking about that Men's league,,, Thursday night..... 37 miles away,,,, and
Thursday Night Football! ( but just 8 bucks to bowl sanctioned league ) hummmmmm I need to make up my mind,,,, Can I hit that
200, or 220 average on wood,,,, I was told by Scott that a 190 average was big on the Thursday night men's league of 30 bowlers...
last Saturday,,, Chris himself had a couple big ones,,, 220 and 230 something.... could Scott the local top gun be pulling my chain???
I did have a couple two hundred plus, and a high 250 something... hummmmm GENE almost had a 300 game!! 286 as I remember?
NEVER BEEN a sanctioned 300 bowled??? :rolleyes:

I haven't bowled on many large team format leagues yet on wood but on my two to a team leagues I generally only move two or the boards a night.

Wood holds the oil better, and it's also grippier than synthetic on the dry (depending on the material used).

From one extreme to the other

Well going to Plattsburg tonight,,,, come on up and join us if you like! I did have a pretty good game, last week! High being a 256, as I remember it. did have a couple low 200's., but then I do a lot of experimentation with the six balls I bring with me. Still getting the feel of bowing on wood.

I see,,,, so far,,, NO disadvantage of this fine wood alley in regards to spares, or strikes. I even use the Deadly Aim, and Byte, and they both play about the same line as I do when on synthetic!

It will be interesting to see just how they play with fresh oil on a league day! We have bowled so far on oil that was at least 24 hours or more old, and even played on before us, in open bowling.

VERY HARD for ICEMAN to see much difference at all!! (::confused:
