Little background, when I start in the summer trio league ( this year) one of team mates talk me out of using my 12lbs maxim, and just use my 14lb cyclone.

When I started the summer I had a really funky release. Now I have a much better release. Now my strike ball is a 15lbs hammer the chalk tnba. The cyclone is used alot to pick up spares.

sorry got on a ramble. Lol

would the 2lbs difference between the 12lb maxim and the 14lb cyclone realty mess with the timing of my release?

Yea.....at the very max you can get away with a 1lb. difference. But even that is not recommended.

It's a good move to go up in weight. 12 lbs won't do much damage on the pins, seems it was a plastic ball? Moving up in weight and to a reactive ball will help your game. The weight will change things for you, but in long run, you will be glad you did the move.

ONE thing I notice between my bowling balls, (and I have 14, 15, and 16lb), is the point of release! I seem to relase the lighter balls further down the lane, then the heavier ones!

When I relase the 14lb ball its just shy of the arrows in the air,,, 15 much closer, and the 16lber is just a few inches from the foul line. I am sure it has to do with timing, and the lightness of the ball.

the only reason I have 14lb balls are due to hand-me-downs from my wife, and a Byte that a friend on league gave me for a price I couldn't pass up.

NO! NO!,,, NO!,,,,, not a good idea to change weights while bowling unless you are very,,, VERY, VERY gifted at compensating! I only know ONE human being that might,,, might,, MIGHT be capable of achieving this feat,,,,

But is Aslan 100 percent Human,,, or could he be a hybrid, part human, and part bowing god!! We shall see in Vegas!! Sept 24th!

That IS true...I will sometimes use my 15lb Frantic despite most of my current arsenal being 16lbs. BUT...I kinda draw the line at 1lb. I have a 14lb, conventionally drilled, urethane that I've thought of using as a spare ball...but the combination of the > 1lb weight difference and the conventional grip and that is isn't drilled to fit my hand have made me reluctant.

I agree with everyone else that one weight is generally a good idea. I've heard of people using lighter balls as spare balls; even the occasional pro. But it's generally better to have a uniform weight.

Me PERSONALLY, I don't see much of a difference in RELEASE. I don't have excess revs with the lighter ball per se...nor excess speed or loft. The only "slight" problem is that it will change your timing since the ball is going higher in the backswing...but it's minor for < 1lb. Some people would say the differing weight is LESS of an issue than the fact that I have 3 different grips (3 the same (tri-grip), then two different standard fingertip grips/spans) on 5 balls. And honestly, I notice THAT more than the weights. If I'm using the Frantic or Rhythm and switch to the Slingshot for spares...the Slingshot has a noticeably different span and is drilled tri-grip...so it just "feels" different. Norm Duke would HATE it!!

sprained my middle finger on a ball I found at a goodwill. took two months to heal.

I do see a 1 to 2 mph slower speed from my 14lb then my 15lb but that just could be physics to that. 15lb ball 16.5 to 18.5 mph 14lb 14.5 to 17 mph. 20+ if I get mad and muscle the ball. :p

"Bowling god..." HAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! "My balls are my Special Power!!!" When he throws, the pins bow before his awesomeness, there's a huge clap of thunder, and a burn mark on the lane behind the ball.

I've never, ever thrown more than one ball in any game or series. I'm planning on throwing all the same weight to try and keep things consistent.

Best plan the fewer variables the better off you are

My Hammer Anger ball is 15lbs and also my strike ball. My Blue Hammer is 14lbs and is my spare ball. The one pound difference doesn't seem to do anything bad for me. I don't seem to have timing problems when I go from one ball to the other. I think that 2lb difference would
be too much of a difference. I went to a 14lb weight because of age and wrist issues. I didn't want to give up my 15lb Anger ball because I like it too much. Switching from 15lb to 14lb at least gives my wrist a break instead of useing 15lb all of the time.

That's what I thought, too. Consistency has always been key for me in bowling.

the next ball I get will be a another 15lb. they 14lb cyclone was the first reactive ball I bought. the chalk I got on sale for a really good price. did not have much of a choice of weight.

as for the maxim, I may get it plugged and give it to my wife. she is wanting to move up from a 10lb to a 12lb ball.
