View Full Version : ever wanted to strangle another bowler?

so last night was the conclusion of the PBAE league, we bowled on US Open, we bowled for position, we started on whatever lane our rank in the league was, we changed pairs based on if we won we moved left, lose moved right. first game i shot a killer 96, somehow managed to win (moved left), second game roll'n against a lefty with crazy speed and power, but with little rev, i shot 162 he shot 168 (moved right), found the groove in this flat pattern rolled 189 won (moved left), the lefty from game 2 lost his game three so for game 4 we had a rematch... this is where my frustration began. he approached me before the game saying "i'm gonna throw a house ball, only shot 112 last game, just going to let out the frustration" i said "whatever" i'm usually pretty cool when it come to bowling, i figured he would throw it high and hard and split like crazy, that's exactly what he did... minus the "splits like crazy" i had a very solid line and knocked down the front 5 before my first spare, he on the other had went through the front 9! it was everything i could do to stay caught up, his luck finally ran out and he opened big time in the 10th, but it didn't matter he had me shut out in the 8th! he shot 247 i shot 219... what grinds my gears about it all is that he claimed to be "throwing" this game in frustration and was strike dancing and hollering around the house about how awesome he was, and here i was using a high performance ball that cost 10x as much as that house ball, being embarrassed by some punk kid with a 30mph fast ball. thanks for listening, rant over.
anyone ever have something similar happen?

There's a guy on my summer league team who takes too damn long. He gets the ball, let's everyone else go, and then everyone else go again. He will get of the lane and then go back up. His ball rolls so slow down the lane. I always pray for strikes other wise it repeats. He takes this I sanctioned league too seriously. 2 more weeks, I think I can, I think I can.

Nope.
I sometimes get irritated when I see a girl on another lane that I KNOW isn't a very high average bowler throw like 8-in-a-row or something. And I get irritated that probably once per series one of the high handicap guys on my team will beat me in a game. But at the end of the day, I'm more frustrated in myself for not bowling better than any of them for getting lucky. While on average once a night one of our low average bowlers will beat me by a pin or two in a given game....I don't think they've ever beat me scratch in a series.

Not really used ally just pissed at myself for whatever I did to lose. Or just kind of bewildered for those rarer nights when I just don't know what happened.

from my perspective it was a clear lack of sportsmanship, and yes it sucked getting beat by a house ball, it didn't help that he was roaring drunk and spouting all kinds of profanities, i wasn't the only one ready to strangle him lol

Adult youth league this summer. there was one team of kids that all had 2 balls on rack. so, I got to keep moving all the balls every time I bowled while they clogged everything up the whole night.

I'm in the same boat as Ron Clifton when it comes to stuff like this (http://www.bowl4fun.com/ron/tip8.htm). Although, I can understand it can be pretty annoying if the person who is getting lucky is also show-boating and talking trash. But it still won't help your game to get pissed off about it.
Luck is just a part of bowling though.....some days, your opponent just can't do anything wrong and will get strikes off the most ridiculous shots. Best thing you can do is ride it out with a smile on your face, and stay positive in regards to your own game. For me, bowling well is more important than winning, and it's harder to bowl well when you're getting pissed off about someone else (whether it's their luck, behavior, or whatever).

i'm pretty cool tempered, and i do not let my attitude interfere with my bowling, hell he beat me but i still bowled 1 of 9 200+ games shot throughout the whole night during that game so i'm not upset i bowled well, it was really just his unsportsman like actions that made me want to throw him in the pin barrel and start throwing 30 mph fast balls up the center

LOL...I don't know how he does that without the site timing out on him and it losing everything he's typed???
In a nutshell, my husband is the most NEGATIVE BOWLER I have ever encountered. This is difficult for me as I am a very positive thinking person. He is in most things....NOT bowling.
If he is scoring poorly, he grumbles to himself, but very LOUDLY. Sometimes with language I don't care for. Then if our team is behind in score around the 7th frame, he starts grumbling that "this game is lost".
I made him quit the fall/winter league at the half and replaced him with a friend of mine as I couldn't take the conversations that took place on the way home. Agreed to let him bowl the summer on conditions...1) no foul language that I can hear, 2) no temper tantrums, 3) no saying we've lost until it's mathematically impossible.
I must say that he has made great strides, and for the summer we probably only had 2 or 3 "incidents". So I guess I will let him bowl the fall/winter...lol. I just seem to bowl better when he's not bowling, but I guess this is good practice for me to bowl through adverse conditions.
Oh, and he's self-taught in most things and has excelled well, so he doesn't take to "suggestions" well, nor does he strive to learn more about the game in order to become a better bowler. So suffice it to say, that we don't look at bowling through the same eyes.

I find myself falling into similar habits. I've found that nights when my physical game isn't cooperating so much if I can keep the mental game positive I score MUCH better.
The thing I always try to remember is bowling is like every other sport.... the only thing that matters is the now... execute the best you can.
Last frame can't be changed and next frame isn't here yet.

I went to practice with my younger daughter and wife on Saturday and when I said I was going to practice my daughter said I don't like bowling with you when you practice which surprised me as we bowl teams on youth during the summer and she had not complained. I asked her if it was bowling with me or just practice and she said just practice. I asked her why and she says practice makes me angry. I said why she tells me that I mutter to myself and get upset during practice with my play. So I told her that's only when I'm working on something and not doing it right and that I'm not upset with her just myself.
We bowled the first two games I bowled well and was happy asked her how it was going no grumbling she said fine. Third game I switch balls throw the first two strikes then 9 spare. It goes down hill can't hit the broad side of a barn I keep my cool not showing that I was upset with myself. We come to the tenth frame I proceed to strike out in the tenth of course that just made it worse for me so then I'm grumbling to myself. She comes over and says see you just struck out the side in the tenth and your angry with yourself.
Just gives a idea of how others see us sometimes. How do you explain to a ten year old that your upset because you just proved you could do what you were supposed to be doing all along. By the way I don't kick ball returns, curse or beat down anyone even when I'm not happy with how I've been playing.

Aghhhh...toady I went to the alley and was only one bowling. I started off with a 200 and 188. Then a lady and her son came in. Out of 24 lanes with me using two, this lady and her kid were put 2 lanes down. The lady hero was running the place usually spreads everyone out so I didn't want to strangle her. I wanted to strangle the 10 yr old. With bumpers up, he would throw, not roll, the ball at the spot that I line up at, at the dots near the ball return. One time he threw it and went in another lane, another time the ball went into the gutter, remember he was using bumpers, another time he knocked down the bumpers, falling down as he threw it. His mom was just sitting there watching him. Aghhh.....my last two games combined I didn't even get 200. I was so frustrated and wanted to get away!

People have declined to bowl with me in the past. Aslan will assert that it's due to my antiperspirant not working overtime. I think it was due to my less-than-sparkly attitude.

Last night as it became my turn, on the lane left of me had a just left a big ugly split, so I waited.
The person on the other side of the split left another big ugly split.
Then while the person to my left shot at their split, the person to my right left another big ugly split, so again I waited.
Finally it was my turn and no sign of splits in my vision, I threw a good shot and struck.
Did the waiting make a difference?
I don't know, but I don't like to tempt fate.

This past weekend, the group of people we were swapping lanes with had one guy who struck frames 1-9. We were doing everything we could to let him bowl when he was ready. However, a group of stuck-up bowling people in the lane next to us didn't care even a little. The guy on our lane gets up to throw his first ball for the 10th frame, as soon as he steps on the lane, the person bowling in the group to our right grabs her ball and walks up to her approach spot, completely ignoring the fact that not only is this guy on a 9-strike streak, but it was clearly his turn, as he was already on the lane. He put his ball down and got off the lane for her to bowl. He ended up throwing a 4/6/7/9 split.
This is also the same group that had one guy who, I don't know if he thought he was being funny, or cool, or what, but he would line up practically on the right-side of the lane to his left, lob the ball probably 1/3 down the lane, and then laugh with his friends as it did a wild hook. Keep in mind, this group obviously knew exactly what they were doing. They were all in their, "300 club" t-shirts, matching bags, 3-4 balls a piece, so by no means were they novice bowlers. It was very very annoying to see these people have absolutely zero respect for anyone else in the alley.

Lloyd, that type of stuff definitely makes me wanna shake 'em. I can't stand rude people.
I agree that staying mentally focused is important. I'm always trying to calm people down when they get upset with carry. I mean, all you can do is put the ball in the pocket.
Having said that, there's this one guy (always one, right?) in our league that thinks he's hot ****. This guy is a total DB. He cries if he barely touches the head pin and doesn't strike. Then runs his mouth when he does carry BS. Plus he never gives anyone high five. He completely ignores people if they say "nice spare" or "great strike". I guess because he's an anchor bowler he thinks it's cool to be a dick. Funny thing is, I think he's kinda a crappy bowler. He has an awful approach, and his finish is even worse.
I would very much like to strangle him. Since I can't do that, I just make sure I beat him at his game (being a dick) every time we bowl him. That includes multiple, air born, PDW crotch chops. I really turn it up against this guy. At first I was worried about bothering other league members but everyone seems to get a kick out of it. Except for you know who.
