Ever go nuts and buy a bunch of balls in a short time span? Specially if your just a league bowler, not tournament. In July I got an Optimus, then about a week ago a spare ball and yesterday a Hy-Road Solid. I saw one on Ebay NAND made a bide, didn't think I would get it.....and I did. Lol. Great price, a lot better than what you can get it in a shop for and about $30 cheaper than from a place like bowlingball.com.
I told myself I'm not buying another one till at least the end of next summer! Lol

Well, way back when I was a teenager I did. However, it was almost always used balls. My mother was more than happy to buy me just about any cheap, used ball I could get my hands on so long as I kept my grades up and didn't get arrested. It was no big deal for me to acquire 4 or 5 new balls over the course of 6 to 8 weeks. My mother considered it part of the cost of raising me and giving me something to do to keep me out of trouble. She said once she'd rather pay the pro shop than an attorney.

Back in the early to mid 90's back when I was going
out and bowling in some regional PBA tournaments
along with other tournaments that I would bowl in I
would buy around 2 to 3 or more new balls per month
on average.

Fast forward to now days and I'm lucky if I even buy 1
or 2 new balls per year well come to think of it I'm due
to buy a new ball before fall leagues start up in the next
few weeks.

Yes, but you have a pathological problem. That's different than the "occasional bender." Just so long as you don't dress them up in little costumes and talk to them late at night...

I talked to them last night and told them what you said. They wanted me to remind you that they presently play in 3 more leagues than you do and thus your opinion doesn't matter.

Not me sayin it...just passing on what they said.

I'm not sure how the sport is played in the EU; but generally having the most bowling balls isn't a 1 to 1 correlation to average. Otherwise, the richest bowler or the one with his own bowling ball factory would be PBA Player of the Year EVERY year.

Your mother's a lot opposite of mine. Mine always tells me that I'm not buying any balls in like ever term. And I'm in college, and I get financial aid, so that's how I buy them, but I always say what's my portion of the money is what I decide what I want to buy with it. ;p course she always anticipates that I'm going to buy one everytime anyway lol

The wife got back a very nice tax return this year. I almost went crazy. I was looking at about $1000 (including shoes) worth. Then realized that was completely ridiculous. Especially since I'm only bowling 3 games a week. I ended up getting nothing. In hindsight I wish I would've at least gotten a Hyper Cell. The Cell is my favorite ball, ever.

Judge by this

Not counting the balls I won recently, I have four balls I took to league.

A White Dot I don't even remember when I got it.
A Storm Pyro I got it in 2007
A Nomad Solid I got it in 2009
A Nomad Dagger I got it in 2011, this is the last one I bought.

They all still look and work great for league or tournament and don't need to be replaced yet.

I once heard that the average active bowler goes through a ball per year.

An active bowler is a bowler that bowls a minimum of two leagues, which is 6 games per week for 50 weeks. Thats 300 games on a ball.

Now, there's also varying levels of practice…to account for. But, to counter that, once you have more than one ball…you're going to use Ball #1 less…like how ya get a multi-car discount in auto insurance. Can't throw 2 balls at the same time right?

So, for my Frantic, I waited 300 games before ADDING another ball. I then waited another 300 games before adding the next ball(s). I will now wait another 400 games before REPLACING Ball #1. At that point it will have a total of 1000 games on it.

I then plan on waiting another 600 games before doing a wholesale arsenal replacement and going with 15lb equipment. At that point:
- Ball #2 will have roughly 1300 games on it.
- Balls #3 & #4 will have roughly 1000 games on them.

So, to sum it up, if I'm ADDING a ball to a 3-4 ball arsenal (not counting the spare ball), I would do it every 300-400 games. But I wouldn't REPLACE a ball until it had 1000-1300 games bowled. Now, most of those games will be using OTHER balls…but over the course of 1000-1300 games…you "probably" put 300-400 games on that particular ball.

Now, if you have an app and it tells you exactly how many games you have with each ball…then you can just wait for that 300-400. But I have the PinPal app…and it works great…but sometimes you forget to specify what ball or you change balls and forget to change it in the app…so it's not totally reliable.

Data: (according to PinPal, although not super accurate):
Since 1/22/14:

Frantic: 112 games (+300-400 games pre-app)
Rhythm: 292 games (+100-200 games pre-app)
Slingshot (not counting spare shots): 46 games (I don't use it much as a strike ball)
Encounter (N): 46 games (just purchased a month ago)
Encounter (A): 29 games (just purchased a month ago)

So the next ball to be replaced is the Frantic at 1400 games (total) and I'm currently at 1140. However, I use the Frantic approximately 6 games per month…yet I bowl on average 72 games per month. That means I'll hit 1400 in 5 months, yet will probably only have another 30 games on the Frantic by that point.

Everything I do has a system…and most things have an Excel spreadsheet involved.

I've used it for just about everything.

I have spreadsheets for fantasy baseball, fantasy football, bowling, bills, car selection, apartment selection, golf…I even one for rating strip clubs.

A VERY useful piece of programming! I may be a nerd…BUT…since I'm still too dumb to figure out how to fully utilize MS Access…I'm still okay.

Well, I don't have one for that. BUT...if you've ever been on eharmony...they use an algorithm which could rudimentally be done using a spreadhsheet. So it IS possible. And, likely more accurate than the alternative method of getting drunk, seeing a girl in a short skirt, and following her around.

No great mystery there. I was lucky enough to marry her when she was still young and stupid somehow just managed to hang on these years. We celebrated our 20th anniversary in June.

But why did you CHOOSE her. There are many, many young and stupid people to choose from. You CHOSE her...without the aid of a spreadsheet or database of any kind...so perhaps she was a beauty queen and it was important to you that she be the most beautiful woman in West Virginia. Or perhaps she has a PhD in microbiology and is on the verge of curing cancer and her being one of the most eductated women was most important. Or maybe she had immense child bearing hips and that fit into your overwhelming desire for a large family. Perhaps it was purely a monetary decision and she comes from a wealthy family. Maybe she's an excellent bowler...not Ms. Iceman level of course...but she was already taken.

I'm assuming of course you "chose" her. It's possible it was an arranged situation and your parents offered your hand in marriage in exchange for a goat or a # of chickens or some monetary dowry of sorts. It's also possible your choices were limited and you "settled" for her. Perhaps you weighed all available options and it came down to a rubber doll, a distant cousin, and her and you made the call.

Obviously you two ended up together...stayed together...i.e. happily ever after... But what was the method of choice that was that "magic in a bottle" that I could replace my spreadsheet based system with??? <----very important if I'm to find that "Mrs. Right" and experience the eternal bliss of an Iceman, Mudpuppy, or Amyers.

Right now I am thinking one of two possible things have happened.

1. Hell has frozen over!!!
2. I must be really sick and on my deathbed and not know it.

The reason for the first time in my bowling life there is not a single ball on the market that I want that I don't already own.

How is someone that has a severe addiction to buying bowling balls supposed to live when there is nothing that interests them.
Am I too depressed to have any interests in anything on the market? Cause I don't feel depressed.
So what do I do now????
