Which guys or women threw powerful balls with seemingly minimal effort? Two that come to mind are PDW and Holman. Maybe then we can find out the similiarities among them. I'm not referring to most revs or hook.

Probably the one that fits that description the most for me would be steve cook. Unbelievable power and very smooth for a guy his size.

he sure did throw a powerful ball. I think his size helped him. Two others are Goebel and a young Steelsmith. No effort at all it seemed.

The player who comes to my mind is Wes Mallot.

To my mind, Holman never made it look easy. Part of it was that look of intensity that he had in competition. The other part was I knew that that long slide resulted from a lot of leg drive.

I watched one of my favorite movies on TV yesterday, "The Legend of Bagger Vance." At one point Bagger says something like, "Find your true authentic swing, and get out of its way." I'm thinking that those bowlers who demonstrate seemingly minimal effort, are those who have figured out how to do this.

Yeah, I was gonna suggest Wes.

Not too far off base.

Not too far off base.
That's the perennial problem of mine that's occupying nearly all my attention right now: I've always had a claw grip on the ball and tried to muscle it through the swing.

Norm Duke is my favorite bowler but I think Parker Bohn III and Amleto Monacelli were effortless.

For woman I would say Tish Johnson and Leanne Barrette.

Dom Barrett like butta.

I would say Stu Williams, based on his short abbreviate follow through. It does appear he cuts off his shots, but he gets a boatload at the bottom of the swing.

Odd choice, maybe, but I think Suzuna Miyagi (JPBA) has a really effortless swing.

I have to admit, I thought for sure it was going to be a couple helicopter bowlers. I thought it was a joke...

After watching a 110lb woman throw an effortless ball with some funk (revs/power) on it, I concur with your assessment. She's nasty!

Yeah, him and Bohn...
I think Norm Duke is actually smoother, but for some reason doesn't appear to be. I think it's the follow-through.

Yep Fagan is something.

Well, I like to think of someone who is not only effortless but who also has a game that will stand the test of time. For that reason, I will go with Nelson Burton Jr.

*edit* I see now that although the topic is "effortless bowling", power is mentioned in the original post. Maybe NBJ doesn't qualify. I guess he has always had enough power to knock down ten pins. He bowled an 878 league series last season.

Got to go with everyone who said Fagan. Guy puts the game into a slow motion mode, so smooth and effortless. Probably drinks Dos Equis when drinking beer.:D

When he bowls, all he has to do is walk past the lane, and the pins fall before him out of sheer respect.
