I talked about my friend's speed. now mine.
I saw these tonight while bowling. my first game I roll at speeds around 14.4 to 15.5. nice arch right into the pocket. 206 game.
next two my speed jumps up to 17 to as high as 19. still good games for me. but avg of 55 pins less.
third game, still in the 17 to 19mph range but bowl a 196.
seems like my shoulder is tight on the first game no matter how much I try to loosen it before bowling. then right after the first game, I am throwing with more speed but with the same foot work, starting point of the ball, from what I can tell same back swing.
any tips on how I can have more constant speed
really need to set up an camera and go bowling by myself, see what I am doing and let yall see what is going on.

That much uncontrolled variation in ball speed most probably comes from muscling the ball. Make sure that you support the weight of the ball on your non-bowling hand during the push-away, and then let gravity take over - just let the ball fall. Work on posting each shot to make sure that your timing is good, and you should see a much more consistent ball speed.

Normally my non bowling hand stays under my ball until I take my first step (push off). Next time I bowl. I try to see if I can video it and figure out if I am muscling or not

A couple shots from your first game and then a couple from your 2nd/3rd for comparison would be good to see.

honestly most of it is mental, in my experience, i used to get pretty amped up bowling in league or just practice, which i still have the tendency to do in practice (i'll roll 10 games in an hour), but when it comes to serious league play i have to force myself to slow down before every single shot.

TEN games in one hour,,, I didn't know a pin machine was capable of doing that!! LOL.... (:) Maybe all strikes,,,, right?

not when i'm going at that pace lol i have to run it league style but it's great for conditioning

think you might be right about the mental. think I may have got excited that I bowled over 200. then started trying too hard. foot work may have picked up a little or started muscling the ball.
last time i did 10 games it took me 3 hours

when i try to fit 10 games into an hour i'm not rolling for score, i'm just trying to set that muscle memory in place, by the 10th game i'm beat and just going through the motions, conditioning is not just for "Real" sports lol

Bowling 10 games in an hour is counter-productive. Bowling, properly executed, does not build up muscles. I does build up endurance, but only for bowling. The hardest thing about bowling in a 10-gamer, particularly on a tough pattern is maintaining your composure and concentration. If you are going to bowl that many games for "practice," try to duplicate the rhythm and pace that you will see in a league or tournament. Bowling by nature is more of a marathon than a sprint.

That's good advice Rob....I was going to say something along those lines after reading Shane's post. Almost anybody should have the physical endurance to bowl 10-12 games, that's the easy part.....the hard part is keeping your concentration and focus sharp for that many shots/games. Having the right amount of focus on every shot takes just as much practice as your physical game!

I couldn't agree more Rob,,, here are a some perfect examples of how bowling can transform your body, do to its Marathon like nature... ;)

hey i'm not saying thats how every practice session goes lol that would be crazy but i tend to do that at least once a week or every other week. sometimes you just get frustrated with your day to day life and need to pound a few pins its a great way to relieve stress, but i do believe there is a small degree of required conditioning for any bowler, most of the guys in my thursday league are beer belly bowlers (not that there is anything wrong with that) that are sweating profusely after game 1, its pretty sad when you have avoid their high 5's to keep your bowling hand dry lol these are the type of people that get their only exercise at league, (i'd hate to see them at their job) lol and yes i know some people just sweat allot. but any who have always done this about once per week for about the last 10 years, and i do get into a rhythm, always count my steps mentally, and constantly work on timing. in my OPINION it is productive in the sense that by the end of game three my wrist is not tired, my shoulder is not tired, and guess what, neither is my knee. since my body is not tired i can maintain my consistency much more efficiently.

lol, man, I thought that was some people I knew from my center. beer always in hand.
I have two ways to release stress, hammering a few pins or putting lead down range. no that I have not done 10 games in one session for a while, I don't think I could do that now. more fun to take the wife and meet up with some friends. let the friends have fun (and call me a few choice words while I practice)

got my speed down, about 15.5mph avg for four games. cut my approach in half slowed my foot work down alot more. was not muscling the ball the whole time. had the arm swing loose like I seen in videos a lot tonight.
