Finally my Fall league started tonight.....

My plan was to start off with my Hy-Road Solid NAND move to the Optimus when the oil dried up but was able to play with the solid all 3 games. Used Optimus for my 7 pin spares. Started off with a 169, 9 pins above average. I then bowled a 212. Started off with 5 strikes and then got a split and dropped off. Last game was a 186 to end with a 567 or 189 average. Not bad! Hope to keep it up. The Hy-Road just did the trick for me tonight.

Hope everyone is doing well in their leagues!

You might want to revise your "plan" a little bit, in fact, you might want to abandon the idea of a plan at all. The lanes will tell you what ball to use and what line to play. Not listening to the lanes ends up like not listening to your wife; not good for you. You have formed an opinion of your bowling balls based totally on the cover material and surface. The fact of the matter is that the Optimus is a very aggressive ball that utilizes a very aggressive core that is designed to roll early (rg 2.48 @ 15#), and utilizes a very aggressive cover material (RSX) that happens to be a pearl material that is polished. Polished balls do skid more in the oil, but they also react harder to the friction. The HyRoad Solid is a much less aggressive ball in terms of the core (rg 2.57 @ 15#) and utilizes a solid cover material with a lot of surface (2000 ab). Because of the core/cover combinations, you don't have two balls that you can use progressively as the lanes dry out. You have two balls that one or the other is going to work depending on the particular lane conditions and the topography of the particular lanes that you are on.

i agree with rob the Optimus is a pretty aggressive ball for a closer. i utilize the 1-2 punch idea myself using my black widow legend with a 500/3000 dull surface, and my black widow pearl with a 1000/3000 polished surface. both are drilled identically my legend owns the lanes for the first game and a half then i pull out the pearl and own them all.

Rob first off let me say I agree with you on the balls and that the lanes dictate which balls you use not necessarily an arbitrary plan. What you really have there Blomer is an initial choice. Which is performing better the arc shape of the Hy-road solid or the somewhat more hockey stick of the Optimus. Neither of these balls are really a step down just different shapes. In my house that I bowl in you would still be fine though I would start with the Hy-Road playing more towards the outside track area and if it dries up move left and throw the Optimus bouncing it off the dry I created with the Hy-road. I would consider purchasing something else that was a little more of a step down incase I ran into really light conditions. Seems reasonable to me

Thanks Aymers. The pro shop guy at the alley pretty much said what you did, but not getting something a step down something to think about.

Glad your season started off well for you!

Personally I like a solid and a pearl for THS leagues, I find the pearl allows me to stay more or less where I am when the lanes transition too much.
