for those of you that don't know, my ring finger is in an extreme amount of pain, this has cause me to lose revs, and be inconsistent. i heard a story of a guy who got his ring finger cut off last season and switched to using his index finger and middle finger for release, sounded like a better idea than switching to a srge Easter so i thought, why not? i had my deadly aim fingers moved, and finally got a chance (after league) to throw a few games with it. first thing i noticed, the track was extremely high, i'm more of a mid track normally. the second thing i noticed, there was almost ZERO flare. and lastly, the pitch in my thumb is way off so we are going to make adjustments. i got all my revs back! now despite that fact that i was shooting on that very same house shot i just bowled league on, with 9 other men, the lack of flare didn't affect the ball as much as i thought it would, i managed to play the same line for the two game i shot it with, and rolled a 212 and 198, leaving only one 10 pin throughout both games. i was terribly inconsistent and i definitely need to practice with this, i have already approved my proshopper to change the rest of my equipment!

Congrats Shane glad to hear you found a solution.

time will tell, i'm a little worried about my track rolling over my finger hole and i'm also worried about the zero flare issue this deadly was drilled 45x5x45 so it should have 5 inches of flare and it has less than an inch.

Regardless of the fact you bowled better.

Considering the issues you describe here after changing your grip:
"the track was extremely high", "almost ZERO flare", "pitch in my thumb is way off", "track rolling over my finger hole"

I would have waited till they were resolved before giving the ProShop the go ahead to change your other balls.

Given if you had pain in the ring finger, I would have determined first the cause.

Then If it wasn't medical, then it would be either fit and/or a release problem.

I believe I would have gone with the Sarge Easter grip, which reduces pressure on the ring finger.

While going to the index & middle finger as the grip, might be a option. how well it works would depend on just how they did it.

Whether they just plugged the ringfinger and added the index fingerhole.

Or if they plugged both holes and redrilled the sizes (which is what it sounds like, since you say your thumb pitch is now off.)

i have waited to have the rest of my equipment moved, this is a medical issue after determining that the finger just has a sprained knuckle. i have plugged the thumb to adjust the pitch on my deadly and this seems to have helped the track and given me a bit of flare, probably 2 inches. the track barely crosses over the finger hole just really close. i want to avoid the Sarge, i have just never heard anything good from anyone who has had to do it, other than no pain in their finger. i see some pro's use the Sarge. i just wanted to try this to see if i could maintain my revs that i had instead of lose them, i am going to drill up a grape vibe with the Sarge just to see for my self. do you think though that the shorter flare will be an issue with the index finger drill? i bowl on wood lanes that tend to transition very quickly and my deadly aim was running the boards even before i fixed the thumb pitch. the biggest reason i went this route is because i love to do things differently just to prove i can lol

my biggest fear though is after my finger is healed and i go back to the traditional finger drill is that i'm going to sprain my finger again so i'm just looking for a good alternative

plugged the original middle finger hole and just dropped it down to fit the span of my index finger, moved my middle finger to former ring finger hole, would that have caused the low flare and abnormally high track?

i want to avoid the Sarge, i have just never heard anything good from anyone who has had to do it, other than no pain in their finger. i see some pro's use the Sarge.
Don't know what kind of complaints anyone would have. Other than relieve the stress on the ring finger, the Sarge Easter doesn't really do any thing else.

If your worried about the Sarge Easter causing you to lose rev's, Don't be.

While at first the Sarge Easter grip will reduce rev's, as you get use to it your rev's go back up.

read about it here:

plugged the original middle finger hole and just dropped it down to fit the span of my index finger, moved my middle finger to former ring finger hole,

By doing that

1-Your thumb pitch will be off. (which you noticed already)
2-Your middle finger pitch will most likely be off.
3-Your middle finger span will be off (most likely too long) ((usually a bowlers ring finger span is longer than the middle finger span))

would that have caused the low flare and abnormally high track?

Sure, you changed how you release the ball and its sitting in a different position in your hand will have a affect.
Which is borne out by the fact you noticed a higher track and no flare.

And with such a drastic change in release, your PAP has changed so the layout would different.

thanks for all your help Bowl1820, i am drilling my grape vibe tuesday, my ring finger is actually shorter than my middle finger but not by very much the span was not to drastic of a change. i always wondered how smallwood managed to get his revs up so high using the Sarge when everyone else i know complains about it. now that i think about it these are the older gentlemen that have been bowling their whole life and dont need to practice... so this may be why their revs have not come back up.
