Last wednesday (9/3/14) I shot my very first 299 game! So the question is if you had the money, would you buy a ring to go along with the plaque?

Thanks,

Zothen

Only if you feel you're not likely to achieve that 300 score.

I shot 299 shortly after having shot 300, so I opted for the watch. (back in 1990)

I know where my 300 awards are, but I'd be hard pressed to locate that watch.

First off, great job bowling!! I would buy one, but not to wear. I think it would be tacky. But it would great to have on a shelf in the house or to pass down to one of my kids. I hope I get to have the opportunity.

No. It'd be nice to get a plaque (I heard they don't give them out anymore). But I'm saving my money for the first 300. As much as I really, really WANT it….it's gonna be an expensive event if it ever happens because for that 1st 300 I'm getting the ring in gold with all the bells and whistles. And last I checked, gold prices are still high. : (

You're looking at $1000-$1200. http://www.keepsakebowling.com/300-game-award-rings.html

Zothen, I think it would be nice to commemorate your achievement. It could be a nice conversation/display piece. Or, you could order a ladies ring for wife/girlfriend. That's what I did, mainly because blue is her favorite color. It made her day and she gets compliments about it on a weekly basis.

Edit: The one I got for her was the Majestic 299 with a blue stone. I just looked through the USBC awards and apparently they no longer give awards for 11 in a row?

my grandfather said as long as he's alive when i get my first trip he'll by the ring, provided he can wear it for 15 minutes since he has never gotten one or will not with his failing health, that is why it is imperative i get this 300 this year. my grandfather lit the fire that is my passion for bowling at a young age, he's now pushing 80 and has had 3 open heart surgeries, we all know our time is limited. thats why i'm so concerned with fixing my finger pain, i know i am not consistent with this pain and i need to fix the problem ASAP and get that ring for my grandpa.

I'm rooting for you. I think that would be really cool for you and your grandpa.

Yup. I figure around $1000 and the price keeps rising as gold keeps skyrocketing.

Skyrocketing? Have you not followed the history of gold prices.

Two years ago Gold was almost $1800 per oz. It has fallen to about $1250 today.

Congrats on the great bowling. Why don't you just get the cheap ring that will cost you around 75.00 and when you get the 300 get the gold ring. Keep up the great bowling!

First off I'd like to say good shooting Zothen way to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is to bad the USBC doesn't give out the 299 standard rings for free
any more. When I shot my first 299 I received the standard ring for
free and a couple of months later I shot my first 300 game I opted for
the free 300 ring again. Well several more rings years later I opted for
a watch which I don't think they offer any longer I'm not sure about that
whether they offer it now days or not.

I'm like Mike White said I know where most if not all of my rings are but
when it comes down to knowing where the watch is I'd be hard pressed
to try and locate it.

Actually the price of gold has come down about $400-600 since Keepsake raised their prices. Before the big jump in gold prices, a gold 300 ring could be had for less than $600.

They still give the rings for free if you have not shot the particular honor score before. If you have you still have the option to purchase them as well.

Nice job! Not sure your age, but believe me it can happen at any age! I started bowling 4 years ago, and right off the start had several high 200 plus games, even won some trophies,, my first year,,, 298, 290,,, 279s ect... then it all came togerther last year, and two 300 within a 7 month time period, with two different bowling balls, all at the age of 65.

http://i1243.photobucket.com/albums/gg546/imagine686868/DSC00475_zps5940486f.jpg (http://s1243.photobucket.com/user/imagine686868/media/DSC00475_zps5940486f.jpg.html)

so I have the trophies from the league, for the almost 300's, and high scratch, but the 300s can soon there after. I am SURE it will happen for you too! Anyone that can roll a 299, is not far away from that 300!!

I decided not to do the gold due to expense... I can see putting huge amounts of money in a motorcycle, but a RING??? Not me!! You can put about 200 extra bucks and get this look! I think they look great, and they don't break the bank! Gold is way over rated! If it looks like Gold,,,, who cares! LOLhttp://i1243.photobucket.com/albums/gg546/imagine686868/DSC00293_zps4761e559.jpg (http://s1243.photobucket.com/user/imagine686868/media/DSC00293_zps4761e559.jpg.html)

Good luck,,, your getting close...soon it will happen! If I were you, ( which I am not, lol), I would hold off on the ring, you will like Iceman, get that 300 soon, maybe two real quick, like me! Bowling is a funny sport,,,, you never know when the MAGIC is going to Happen!!

I have an ABC and USBC 299 Ring, plus a few other rings. I did opt for the watch on one of my 300's. I'd still pay to get one of the rings as I am considering doing that for my 298 I shout a few years ago.

It peaked in 2011 and again in 2012. Yes, it's down since, but still triple what it was a decade ago. And i've heard that it's kinda a 'fake' number anyways because if you adjust the price of gold for the falling value of the dollar…gold was actually at it's highest valuation around 1980. It was half of the price it is today, but the dollar was worth more then.

Didn't you used to get a gold one for each 300-game back in like the 70s? I think it was the 80s when gold prices went up that they started making you pay an up charge to have it in gold. But yeah, when I priced one out before keepsake raised their prices I think it was $600-$900 for one with all the bells and whistles. I'm not a big jewelry wearing kinda guy but I remember the last time I bought a "ring" it was my high school class ring in the early 90s and it cost around $200 for 14k gold.
