I'd like to know if this is normal and is something I should get used to. I tried a different bowling center tonight and my one week old ball came back with a half inch long by a half inch wide 1/8 inch deep gash taken out of the ball. The ball is an entry level scout 300. There is a sign stating that the lane is not responsible for damage to your equipment. Luckily the ball doesn't track over the gash. Does this happen a lot, I think I'd freak if it was a $250 ball.
Thanks

No that shouldn't happen at all if the lanes and machinery are
taken care of properly. I would still have told the manager of
the center about it maybe they would have offered to fix it or
not.
I do believe I'd be finding another center to bowl at myself.

Well yeah bowling balls get pretty beat up. My ball got a nice sized "divot" if you will about a month after I bought it. If it is not in your track it shouldn't be a problem. Just one of many battle scars.
They have a sign up saying they will not fix it so not much you can do. I would have probably still inform someone at the front it happened. Also if they have to have a sign up then that makes me think it will happen a lot. Bowl at your own risk there.

I had a real estate law course many years ago. And I remember the teacher saying when a resturant has a sign saying not responsible for lost or stolen items, this is not the truth. They are responsible but it's not against the law to have a sign saying they were not responsible.

Yeah as jnv32185 said you will get some battle scars on
the bowling ball some nicks and scratches but you should
not get such a big chunk taken out like that.
Yeah our center has the sign up also but they will usually
fix the damage or sometimes they will even replace the
ball if it is damaged to bad which just doesn't happen very
often here.

Had this happen with two of my C300 balls did it hit the gutter or was it a clean shot before you found the damage? My crazy antics was also oy a week or so old :/ it way right under my fingers so it's out of the way but ya that still sucks

this happened to me years ago to my anarchy. Ball came back with a gash.. took it to the pro shop and they fixed it for free. Had another ball, a physics and it came back with a gash and the pro shop fixed for me. Two different centers, both pro shops fixed for free.

I would be finding a different center. Sign or not, they should fix it. It is their equipment that caused the damage not your ball.

I'd like to thank everyone for taking the time to help me out. I called the manager today and she said they have a guy who works for her doing repairs. She said drop the ball off and if he can't fix it she'll replace the ball !
If I lost a chunk as big as the one that came out last night, my ball would weight 15 lbs. in a couple of weeks, lol.

Glad it worked out for you. The more you bowl, the more battle scars your ball will get, but when something as big as that happens the center should take care of you.

It's not a real ball unless it's got some good scratches on it. Where I practice the ball will come back with black sticky goo on it that has to be scraped off. Have no idea what it is, but my towel is covered in it.

Would be either the rubber curtain behind the pins, or belts used to move the ball along the return mechanism. The house I bowl in on TUesdays my balls get filthy. Have to put ball up on spinner to clean vs. by hand.
