New ESPN Bowling Event to be Presented by the United States Bowling Congress

SEATTLE (January 21, 2009) – As the winner of the Bayer Earl Anthony Medford Classic PBA Women’s Series title Sunday, Wendy Macpherson of Henderson, Nev., landed the sixth and final berth in the first Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) Women’s Series Showdown presented by the United States Bowling Congress. The special event will air on ESPN April 12 from 1-3 p.m. ET.

The Showdown will be conducted at the Kegel Training Center in Lake Wales, Fla., and will feature the winners of five of the six 2008-09 individual Women’s Series events, plus Missy Bellinder of Fullerton, Calif., who finished second to two-time winner Michelle Feldman of Auburn, N.Y., in the CLR Carmen Salvino Scorpion Championship.

Also qualifying for the Showdown are Women’s Series champions Feldman, who also won the Chameleon Championship; Carolyn Dorin-Ballard, Keller, Texas, winner of the Cheetah Championship; Stefanie Nation, Arlington, Texas, winner of the Pepsi Viper Championship, and Jodi Woessner of Oregon, Ohio, winner of the Lumber Liquidators Shark Championship.

While the Don and Paula Carter Mixed Doubles Championship was part of the 2008-09 Women’s Series schedule, the women’s winner of that event was not eligible for the Showdown. The PBA Mixed Doubles Championship is scheduled to air on ESPN Feb. 1 at 2 p.m. ET.

The Showdown format and prize fund will be announced later.

Each Women’s Series individual event, which featured 16 of the world’s top women bowlers, were conducted concurrently with regular Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour events on PBA Experience lane conditions.
