I typically play in the track area. My IQ Fusion is my go-to ball normally. I have a Optimus drilled with the same layout. I play on a 42 foot THS and try to use the 11 (6 to 11) board as my breakpoint target. When I play the same line with the pearl Optimus I get to the pocket but can't seem to string strikes leaving 10's and 7's. It SEEMS as though my Optimus likes to play a little closer to the gutter for a breakpoint (better around 6 board). Does pearl equipment with a skid flip type of layout typically work better when you don't play straighter up the boards? For example the Optimus > Fusion when playing deeper inside but Fusion > Optimus when playing straighter up the boards. Or does using pearl equipment typically necessitate a bit of a different strategy (like playing a breakpoint closer to the gutter)

1 thing you do have to do is watch how your ball is going into the pocket are you getting that 6 DEG entry angle best way to learn this is go to a proshop and get some lessons on it they should go up the lane and put some tape into the pocket on the 5 DEG and 7 DEG lines and you have to get your ball in between both pieces of tape.
so when you get a lesson with the tape and you get your ball in there and hit the pocket at a 6 DEG angle if you leave up say the 10pin or 7pin then you will know you have to make a adjustment with your feet or line.
I found this way the best way to help with it so say if I was haing a hard tiem hitting the pocket on my normal line but that balls not hooking in enough I move to the right but at the same time think about how would this affest leaving up 10pins so what I say with the tape down learn to see what it does to you, to me I make a half a step back and it helps me and if I got farther left I take half step forward and adjust from there I leave up less 10pins then I use to.
I learned to do this when I went to the brad angelo/ Bowl U bowling camp.

Thanks for the reply. So there isn't any general rules for using pearlized skid/flip equipment like playing deeper instead of up the boards? It would seem to me that playing straight with a quick transition high flare ball straight up the boards with pearl equipment that might push further before breaking may have too much entry angle and that at least seems to be what is happening when I try to use my Optimus with a straighter line.
I'm a newbie and just trying to get a better understanding of my equipment. I usually start with my fusion and as I move left during the matches I usually switch to the Optimus when I start getting around 3rd arrow for my target (13/14 board usually) This works pretty well for me and I tend to struggle if I stay with the fusion there. But if I use the optimus instead of the fusion when I'm playing around the 9-12 boards for a target I tend to struggle with the optimus. It may be my imagination or me getting in my own head. But if it were to make sense due to entry angle being too high for the optimus when playing a straighter line, then I'd feel I have an understanding of why.

Bob what your saying here makes sense to me. The Optimus tends to be a little earlier than some pearls so I would think it wouldn't have that problem as bad as say a Hyroad pearl. I currently start off with a hybrid and switch to my pearl if needed but mine is a Seismic Euphoria so its about 5 boards weaker than my asylum.

i have always had a better line and strike percentage using pearls playing deeper lines, typically the straightest line i play is 15-10 but as the night progresses i can move to the 20-10 with my black widow pearl drilled skid flip, and i use the Sarge Easter grip so my revs couldn't be much higher than 200. i've always been told that pearls need to cross oil before they hit the dry for the best conservation of energy.

pearl balls they will make a very strong move on the backend and that's 1 thing you have to keep your eyes out for you might get a lucky strike but you have to watch it like I use to throw my original freeze witch is the pearl one that they now come out with and I use to stand of 20 push out to the 5 board and it would come back in very strong but since my bowling has changed I roll over the finger holes.
but I just got a new iq tour pearl witch will help me get deeper in the lane where no one plays like I use my rumble or network and I loft the left gutter to get pocket shots but something the ball does not come in strong enough then I switch to my 14lb 716T its drilled a lot different and carry a lot of energy all the way down to the break point and akes a strong move into the pins but only problem with it is, its 14lb to sometime it comes off my hand to fast so these are things you do need to watch for are you throwing to fast to slow and more so best thing to do is think back to the basics and go from there.

Thanks.. I've only been bowling since May so I'm still learning..
I just played an hour during my lunch break and got a new high game with my Optimus on a fresh pattern (246). (yesterday I got a high game for me in league with the fusion (232 but struggled with the fusion in game 3 when I tried to use the same line with the Optimus because the Fusion was reading too early I couldn't string strikes, hence prompting my question. But I did still eek out a 600 Series)
Today I played a breakpoint that was a little closer into the gutter to do this. Yesterday my line was standing 20 throwing to 10... Today with I was playing 20 throwing 9.
I played enough games to really see how these balls can complement each other. For example, When my Fusion was starting to read to early and I wanted to move 2&1 (moving to standing 22 throwing 10), the fusion didn't have enough of a move to the pocket and came in weak. So 20 to 9 was reading too early and 22 to 10 was coming in weak leaving 2-4-5.
I played the Optimus and that is when I had my new High game. The next game I played the Fusion on that same line and now it was working beautifully on that line. I was on pace for another 200+ game but was running out of time and rushed my last few frames and ended with a 184. (opens on 9 and 10)

yeah 1 thing to remember is the oil will never be the same when you throw your ball down so you need to move to the transition so as you said your fusion was reading to earlier the thing you could of down was make a 2-1 left if your right handed or a 2-1 right if your left handed this will open the lane up but still give you the same break point sometimes your might have to tape a 1 step left from there with out moving your target buts its normal and the more you learn on transition you will get a lot better
