Okay, something new for the bowler who doesn't want to over tax their brain cells.

(Not that new though, a lot of proshops use to sell a little set of cardboard dial wheels that you set and it would tell you where to shoot.)

Bowling coaches and players, simply Input your your personal laydown # paired with the intended target line, from arrow board to break point board, break point distance (in feet) and the Lane Play Alignment Calculator will provide the exact slide and focal point as well as launch angle. In addition, the screen output includes the next two lines (slide, arrow, focal). The application, designed by USBC Gold Coach Joe Slowinski, will help bowlers ensure accurate lane play lines especially when moving to engage with lane transition.

I wonder though - by the time a bowler is actually accurate and consistent enough to use this properly, won't the know most of this (at least on a ths/easy street)?

Thats kind've cool actually.

But I like to figure that kind of stuff out myself. If I did get it, it would just be mainly to annoy Mike on Sunday mornings by telling him "My app says you need to slide at 28 and you slid at 32."

Then I drop my bowling ball on your phone and ask, what does your app say now?

I'm pretty sure it was designed of sport conditions where the ball doesn't see enough friction to change it's path before the break point.

But my ball (when I intend for it to hook significantly) follows a curving path out to it's widest point, so the calculator wouldn't work for me.

On a THS, when the ball exits the side of the heavy oil, the path changes, and then when it exits the end of the oil, the path changes significantly.

This app appears to assume the ball will follow a linear path from the release, to the break point.

It also doesn't tell you where to place your feet in your stance.

That would be a trick, because people walk in all kinds of directions.

Well, since you throw girl weight balls...nothing would happen. My Han Solo phone case would protect it. : P

But yeah, don't do that. It's my only phone.

Nifty idea but some issues with it like Mike said. Took a quick look and I could very well be missing it but I'd be worried about how it'd pair up to personal stats like revs, axis tilt, and even what ball you're using. Lots of variables that I don't see it addressing (and really, I don't think an app COULD address). For what it is it looks handy.
