View Full Version : Wow, a fight about broke out at my local alley last night ...

So last night my team was bowling on the last pair of lanes next to the extra pair that is kept for league if a lane messes up. Anyways a team came in towards the end of our first game wanting to pre-bowl (I think they are from Tuesday nights because I haven't seen them on any of the other nights I have been there) and asked if they could use the extra pair. So, one of the alley employees went table to table asking if it was ok and some said yes and some said no so since EVERYONE didn't agree it was vetoed and they were forced to bowl on a burnt pair further down. After a while towards the middle of our 3rd game I guess they had finished their pre-bowl and did rather horribly from what I hear but rather than accepting it and moving on one of the guys decided to go table to table in our league making smart *** comments which a few people took personally and there was some yelling, shoving, and name calling but nothing serious luckily.
Now since I am mostly deaf I didn't hear what was said but witnessed the small scuffle and heard 2nd hand about things that were said but it just really sucks when that kind of thing happens and kills the zen in a place. Seemed like everyone got all quiet for a bit and the whole place had a gloom to it. A couple of the guys involved in the scuffle were on the team we were bowling and they completely self destructed and took a game that was close and give us 100 pin win where the other 2 games we barely won.

Yeah. Hard to avoid drama when that many people get together and alcohol is involved.
I haven't seen a fight yet...but I saw a shouting match once between league and casual bowlers. And I've seen "drama" when one team left because they felt the lanes were too slippery and then there was a big disagreement as to whether they forfeited or would be allowed to post-bowl since it was sort of a safety issue.
Last season in my Tuesday league I guess two guys got in a shoving match and they were both employees of the alley...leading to a league rule that alley employees are no longer allowed to bowl in that league. I didn't get to see that though, just heard about it.

Good for you on the wins but it's auks that happend. I can feel for both sides but it is what it is. We had a fight the first year we where on league first night. Redneck family troubles ha ha.

But...without rednecks...we wouldn't have bowling. It's just something you gotta accept. I bowled in a Laughlin league once (never will again)...and the entire city of Laughlin is pretty much just a Redneck version of Vegas. It's like a tourist attraction for Rednecks that have never seen a river. I couldn't figure out why all the rednecks were staring at the river and taking pictures until I realized...they live like in Barstow...or southern Nevada or Arizona. I guess, to them, an actual "river" is kinda a cool thing to see...because their whole lives have been spent in a trailer in the middle of a desert. They'd probably soil themselves if they saw the Gulf of Mexico or Pacific Ocean.

You have to admit, that isn't an ordinary river.
It created the Grand Canyon.
Even the Mississippi didn't create anything close.
And the fact that you bowled like crap probably clouded you opinion of the place.
I shot 687 when I went to Laughlin, so its all on you.

This will be nothing compared to what goes down at the Real Men Bowl on Wood, World Championship ICEMAN OPEN.

I've never seen a fight. Heck, I've never seen a shouting match. All our leagues were respectful of each other. But that may be because the house was dry, so no one was drunk.

How bout that for excitement. The two leagues I bowl in are pretty calm. Nothing close to fighting or shout match occurs. I used to be hectic like the guys you mentioned when in high school sports and such. But that was a long time ago and seems like these guys are way out of high school as well. What a shame. I know for me it doesn't take much to get out of my rhythm.

Yeah...maybe your argument 13 million years ago would make sense. Now it's just a dirty river that separates Laughlin, NV from Podunkville, AZ that a few drunk hillbillies zoom up and down on rented jet skis. Oh how the mighty has fallen!
And not only was it my bowling that made that experience miserable. It was so damn hot there that I thought I was going to spontaneously combust. The bowling alley was "cash only". They didn't have a poker room. The slot machines must have been set on "never pay" because that about summed up my luck. I didn't get laid. Nor would have I wanted to by that crowd. I stayed at a hotel "near" the lanes which meant lugging a ball bag and shoulder bag about a half mile back and forth 1-2 times a day.
Oh...AND I bowled bad.
The only highlight was the hotel I stayed at had an Outback Steakhouse...which is an Aslan Approved Establishment (AAE) due to their fine selections.
The only people that would prefer Laughlin to Vegas are the few that made the bad decsision to buy a pontoon boat and now have nothing to do with it.

I am under the impression that the only place to bowl in Laughlin was at the Riverside Casino, so I assume you bowled there.
They do have a poker room there, but I didn't partake.
Slot machines are designed to allow the suckers to pay for the lighting, so it looks like they were working just fine.
As for the heat.... stop whining... You knew it was in Nevada during the summer. If you didn't expect hot weather, thats on you.

Sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean or a full moonrise after dark, may be way too much, for the skidmark population........:D

Yes. It is now the ONLY bowling center in Laughlin.
They do have a poker room there, but I didn't partake.
I didn't see one. I went to what they 'said' was a poker room and it was a bunch of video poker slot machines.

I was prepared for it to be hot. I just wasn't prepared to feel like an ant under a magnifying glass. It's the only place I've ever felt the sun while in the pool underwater. It was miserable. Not as miserable as a bowling tournament in Milwaukee in February or something...but pretty darn miserable.
And it's just unnecessary. Vegas is closer and has at pooload of good, big bowling centers. Why drive through what looks like a nuclear test site to get to Laughlin? Plus, for those that don't drive, Vegas is easy. I don't think Laughlin even has an airport near it.

I've been to Buffalo in February for an ABC Tournament back in the 80's. I think the hot is worse. In cold, you can put more clothes on, in the heat, there is a limit as to how much you legally can or even want to take off.
As for the poker room, something about you made them think you wanted the semi-brain dead slot version of poker, not the table version.
I believe there is an airport just across the river in Arizona.
Used to be a bowling alley in Bloomington, IN where kids would hang out and on friday nights they had cheap beer and cosmic bowling. Seen fights there, stabbings, a shooting, and a guy get ran over by a car after a fight over a girl.... I think that bowling lane is closed now thank God. Place was awful

But isn't it a pain to roll your roller bag around on snow/ice/salt/slush covered sidewalks?

Way to go women. Nice getting people run over by cars.
Classygranny excluded of course.

It was before roller bags were available for purchase.
With a possible exception of the Rolling Donkey, hard plastic box with wheels.

That place was insane for sure. It actually used to be the best bowling alley when I was a kid. The leagues were great, and they had some awesome pool tables. I think they got shut down finally for serving to minors or thats what I heard, which is one reason it was popular when I was a teenager I guess. I dont think they ever carded anyone.
