When the lanes get fried and you are up against the ball return trying to play inside, what ball/ball type do you go to and why?

I've never really had too much luck with reactive equipment when playing deep on dry lanes, so about two years ago I bought a Brunswick Karma Urethane. It allows me to move back to where I started and throw the same shot- not to mention it carries just as well as my reactive equipment if not better.

Lane masters Green Hornet is just the piece for this condition. Good luck finding one though.

I think a person has to have a hefty rev rate to use a urethane or plastic…even with the lanes dried up.

I really dont have this problem, but I voted plastic because that would be my only option in the arsenal that I currently have ;)

any weak symmetrical ball, (going by the perfect scale info), with the right surface and drilling will work great on dry lanes! I have that DV8 Lemon drop, and for me its just a step up from a plastic. A lot has to do with your spend, rev rate, how ball is drilled, and what surface just to name a few important considerations. That DV8 Bright Yellow ball is very weak, for Iceman, but works great what few times I have come across dry lanes!

We have a darn good lady bowler on our seniors league on Mondays, ( Dolly), she throws a urethane BALL) and it does a great move to the pocket on fresh oil. How does she do it???

Its not her rev rate at all, but rather her speed. With her below average speed, that ball move great to the pocket!

She throws a 14lb urethane ball, only ball she has! She NEVER,,, NEVER misses the 7 pin, she throws her basic strike ball and gets it every time, ( right handed ),,, but Never picks up the 10!

She always misses that damn 10 pin by what looks like a human hair. (hooks off to the left) (:(

Side note: she has been bowling with that ball for over 10 years, and has never had it surfaced or modified! She is one of the top 5 female bowlers on that league with an average of 156. She is in her early 70s!

The only problem with going by the perfect scale is that it is not perfect! PLEASE take the time to learn the basics of bowling balls and make up your own mind. Is Ice Man man enough to step up to that plate?

Near enough to perfect for ICEMAN! Rob, are you attacking me!!! Is this a personal attack on ME,,, ICE! Can't you just make your opinion KNOW, and leave my good name out of it???

Speaking of stepping up to the plate,, ARE YOU MAN enough to step up to the plate? Are you and your lovely wife coming to the historic town of Plattsburg for the Real Men Bowl on Wood in Small Towns Championship?

Or,,, because you only beat me by 3 fricken pins, and are 6 months younger then Ice, afraid that that was just LUCK,( that 3 strikes you needed in the 10th to defeat me!!!!)

Every time I make a POST, you attack my GOOD NAME!

What Fricken Plate do you want me to step up to???? I never back down from plates, ask my wife. Are you going to step up to the wood??

JUNE 13th!!! Be there! Or just coward, and stand down!

1) Yes…I agree that if you throw any ball slow enough you can make it hook. Granted it will hit like a feather and miss every corner spare shot.

2) The "PerfectScale" isn't perfect…but it's more reliable than leaving what a ball should/could/might/can do up to committee. And since nobody on this website can agree on the color of Iceman's poo (I'm voting grey w/ice chips)…I'll rely on the PerfectScale.

3) I won $4 because I bet good money that ANY attempt to call out Iceman on ANYTHING would result in him trying to challenge said person to go to Plattsburg. Granted, I LOST $4 because I bet he would include a reference to his pair of Deadly Aims at some point in his initial response. So I broke even.

I'm not voting in this poll because I haven't seen truly dry lanes since Broad River lanes closed 26 years ago. They stopped oiling altogether about a year before they closed.

I agree. I've seen it twice, same center. Once I think their oil machine was broke so they didn't oil at all that weekend and once over a Thanksgiving weekend/holiday where they obviously didn't bother to re-oil after Wednesday leagues before the holiday.

I use my Brunswick Ringer Platinum Pearl. Drilled pin up above the ring finger with the CG centered between the fingers and the thumb. It's a symmetrical core ball with a low-friction coverstock. I keep it polished and clean and it handles dry, burned up lanes with relative ease yet hits hard. I carry quite well with it.

I too use the Platinum Pearl Ringer, but with the pin below and slightly right of the ring finger for more length, and the cg in the center of the grip for minimum turn. It works really well in my scratch league where the high rev kids have burned up everything to the left of me and the track players have burnd up everything to the right of me. It allows me to play my little slice of the pie for one more game (hopefully the last one).

The Ringer is a symmetrical ball, moving the CG doesn't change the shape of the ball's path.

The only reason to move the CG away from the center of the grip is if you plan on drilling a balance hole, that would otherwise make the ball out of spec.

This info isn't for you Rob (I know it won't sink in) but for others that read this and mistakenly think you know something about layouts.

If my reactive resin Raw Hammer Anger ball is hooking too much on the lanes and I can't correct it I go to my urethane Blue Hammer bowling ball. I changed the surface from the OOB 4000 surface dull to 2000 dull surface. It works better for me that way with the release I have.

Well the other night I was bowling on a broken down stone street pattern in a second shift league. I played inside with my freeze hybrid and could not carry. I shot 177 that game. I pulled out the Karma Urethane and went 224 and 254 for a 652 series. It carried everything. The guy on the other team even asked me if my Karma was illegal lol. I guess it just depends on what type of bower you are.

My polar ice was drilled for 10 pins for the most part so I can throw it outside no problem on dry lanes.

on super dry lanes.

There is a video on the web somewhere (I haven't been able to find it again) where they show that what most people call dry, actually has a lot of oil.

By comparison, they had the machine just strip the lanes... They ran it twice to be absolutely sure the lane was free of oil.

Then showed the result of a reasonable rev rate bowling throwing his normal ball on his normal line.

The ball was in the left gutter before 30 feet.

I believe it. Balls cut through the oil so much now that if you threw the old oil conditions on a lane, most of us with our modern balls would be in the left gutter.

Not using anything right now but will be using the FREE T-Zone I'm going to get from the current league I'm on. The drilling will cost more than the ball. LOL!

That being said, I've thought about not using it at all. I do will just adjusting my release to stay behind the ball and I have a great spare game. My last outing on a "beer league", one of our guys hit 5 strikes in a row but I beat him with 185 due to a strong spare game. I think I only had one strike that game. I'm thinking, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

More likely the ball will burn up, and roll straight down the lane.

Its not a requirement, but it helps,

This is TRUE, you don't need a lot of revs, if your ball speed is in the lower numbers! I have seen it on fresh THS on my seniors league! You do need a decent release with some Rev's but it doesn't take a "hefty amounts".

Advise is a verb, while advice is a noun. Your sentence should have read, "Has Mikey gone too far and destroyed Rob's ability to give ADVICE without attacking ICEGOD???" Note that the two commas should not have been there. OMG, you're right! I have turned into Mike. ROTFLMFAO

Dry lane ball for me, 4 year old reactive with a weak drilling. I cannot carry with plastic or urethane.

I've never thrown urethane, so my only answer would be resin, but i have thrown my spare ball a few times, as well.

I've not thrown urethane, but that's my vote -- at least for how I throw. I can't get any hook out of a plastic.
