joining a league in the new year, so i'll get some free practice time. thinking of getting a reactive ball so i can get used to it. playing with a 12 lb straight ball with an average of 140 at the moment. going for a 15lb ball and going to get it drilled for me. should i go fingertip drilling? or stay as i am? have seen a few balls i fancy but i dont know the jargon so alot of what they are talking about is greek to me. any help would be great. heard a lot of good things about hammer balls, but any info is a bonus.

My first reactive ball was a blue hammer vibe, you will hear good things about every brand it really comes down to what your pro shop decides is best (in my case) or what you decide through research. You could for starters go through the entry and performance level balls for sale on bowling ball.com they aren't too strong so you can't make a terrible choice

I personally would go fingertip drilling, but it don't know if I would want to change styles while starting in a league. But that's your decision. That much jump in weight will make a huge difference as well.

so go with the 15lb ball, but stay with normal drilling? going to get it custom drilled( my 12 lb just has a house drilling pattern). just a pain that my local lane with a pro shop is 50 mile away. where i normaly bowl they dont have a proshop.

Go ahead and make the change your going to want the fingertip and you don't want to have to plug the ball and get it redrilled. It's an adjustment but you will grow used to it

If your committed, then make the change to fingertip. Just know your average will change, probably for the worst at first. Just be careful going up 3 pounds. While getting a ball that's fit properly makes the ball feel lighter, just take it easy at first. Going up that much can make your wrist hurt a lot faster.

My wife is a year into learning to throw a fingertip ball. It's a process to learn, but she's seen her scores go up 50 pins.

Roto Grip Wrecker.

Horrible choice!

The correct answer is the Rotogrip Outcry!!

For the most part it depends on what kind of oil pattern/amount of oil your center typically puts down. For most cases (i.e. standard volume THS) you'd be best served with an entry level reactive ball. Something like a Storm Tropical Breeze, Brunswick Strike King, or a Roto Grip Scream. If your center puts down a bit more oil than usual, you may want to get something slightly stronger.

looking at the proshop where i get my stuff from( mail order because ther is no shop within 60 mile) its looking like a toss up between the roto grip outcry, and scream, and the brunswick strike king. again i'll let you know what i get and how it goes.

ordered the brunswick strike king on thursday. was only after i put in my order that i realised that i'm going to have to get good. if i pull out a ball with "strike king" engraved on it and i throw gutter balls, i'm going to look a bit of a numpty. lol

My brother has a Strike King (Blue/Red) and he loves the bowling ball. Let us know how you like it.

hopefully sorting a coaching session as well. with the nearest coach and pro shop being 50 mile away might be a once a month thing but with any luck i will get things to work on and see where i'm going wrong.
