I'm a little late to the party this season so I'm not going to go back and list my scores from the beginning of the season but I will give an overview of the season so far. I bowl in two leagues, both Men's leagues with 5 man teams, on Tuesday and Wednesday night in different houses. On Tuesdays I ended last season with a 197 average and I currently stand at 202 in that league. On Wednesdays I ended last season with a 195 average and I currently stand at 199 in that league. My high game on the season is 288 and my high series on the season is 667. With that being said, here is what I did this week:

Tuesday night I shot one of my worst series of the year: 176-183-154 for 513. Couldn't strike, couldn't make a spare, couldn't do much of anything other than move on.

Wednesday night I rebounded nicely: 247-204-208 for 659. Unfortunately I lost the right lane halfway through game 2 and never truly got it back or else it could have been a real monster of a night but still solid nevertheless.

Got back on track last night: 194-229-201 for 624.

Our usual anchor was away on vacation so they stuck me in the anchor spot this week, something I don't get to do all that often, and I'm happy to say I lived up to the expectations. All 3 games came down to the 10th frame and in all 3 games I doubled in the 10th and we won each by less than 10 sticks. It was such a rush and I look forward to the next time I'm in that spot!

Continued my good bowling last night for the most part: 247-226-164 for 637. Didn't have a single strike to my name in the last game and I can't remember the last time that happened. It was one of those games where at the end of it I said to myself: "Probably should have made a ball change"

197-189-171 for 557 last night. Couldn't keep my ball off the headpin all night, very frustrating.

236-168-194 for 598 last night. Pretty uneventful but I got a new ball punched up after league so I'm looking forward to trying it out!

Which ball did you get?

I got the Track MX10 which should be a step up from my Track 300C. I put some surface on my 300c to help when bowling on the fresh but now with the MX10 I'm hoping to smooth out the 300c again so it can go back to being more of a dry lane ball as it initially was.

Not as nice last night. 176-191-184 for 551. Chopped 6 multi-pin spares and I was muttering some not so nice words to myself by the end of the night.

243-179-162 for 584 tonight. Had a good look early and then the lanes got squirrely on me and I couldn't put two strikes together. Left two 8-10 splits and two 4-6-7 splits tonight too, ugly ugly ugly. But on the bright side tonight was the end of the 3rd quarter, we were in 1st place going into the night, and my teammates came through in the clutch to get the win. Came down to the anchor men in the 10th frame of the 3rd game to decide it, their anchor left a 6 pin on his first ball, our anchor struck out and we pulled out the win by 7 pins, very exciting!

No bowling on Tuesday due to Snow/Ice. Is it spring yet?

Wednesday I shot 238-172-151 for 561...probably would have been better if that was snowed out too, at least after the first game!

Tough week this week, still trying to get used to releasing the new ball and I'm inconsistent to say the least.
Tuesday: 194-198-150 for 542
Wednesday: 177-187-158 for 522

Mark O

A lot more consistent and closer to normal last night. 193-197-200 for 590
Felt like every time I would get a double I would follow it up with a nasty split, very deflating but after the past few weeks I'll take it!

190-171-259 for 620 last night. I've been in a bit of a slump lately and that last game felt good, hopefully it will continue!

189-181-214 for 584 last night. Couldn't carry the corners and it led to a lot of x 9/ x 9/ 9/ sequences with nice 6 count splits wedged in there to kill both the clean games and count on my marks. Wonderfully frustrating night :D

253-140-225 for 618 last night. Can't explain the second game other than the wheels fell off in frames 6 through 10. 4 splits and a chopped 3-6 led to 5 straight opens and that was all she wrote. Other than that 5 frame train wreck though it was a pretty solid night.

Man that's brutal. Especially like that because it's not like you're diving through the nose, it's just a shot that just lost a little too much energy and you paid the ultimate price for it. Big difference between two flat 10s and virtually guaranteed back to back opens. It's deflating when that stuff happens and it's very easy for the wheels to completely fall off at that point as evidenced by my 140 game haha.

176-234-212 for 622 last night. Could have been better but I made a bad decision during practice and paid for it. I was having trouble getting lined up to start and opted to only throw my 1st ball during the whole 10 minutes of warm up. I thought to myself I've been really good on 10s pretty much all season so I don't need practice it tonight, I'll be fine. And then as I whiffed the first two that I left I thought to myself that I'm never making that mistake again...lesson learned!

I always get atleast 1 shot at 10 pin while warming up, usually it's my last shot in our 10 minutes.

Nice shooting Mark O.

I always get atleast 1 shot at 10 pin while warming up, usually it's my last shot in our 10 minutes.

At the end of practice 2 weeks ago, the guy in front of me left the 4-6-7-9-10, and I asked to shoot at it to practice the 10 pin.

I just clipped the right of the 6 pin, which slid bottom first between the 4 and the 7, contacting both. The 4 fell forward, and the 7 fell back.

So while I picked up the 4-6-7-10, I didn't get the 9 pin.

Thanks man, I always try to practice 1 on each lane as my last two shots of warm up, I just chose not to last night and it cost me.

And that's impressive Mike, I always try to pick just the 10 whenever I shoot at it in practice and I try to throw that exact same shot whenever I leave a 6-7-10, big 4, or greek church. Haven't made the last two yet but I have gotten 3 of 4 and 4 of 5 a bunch of times!

Having been coached by Susie Minshew in the past, she always told me to not just shoot at one pin.

One of the best ways I know to conquer sparing ills is to never shoot a spare alone. By this I mean that regardless of what’s standing up, you are shooting at something else.

If you leave a lone 10 pin, shoot at like the 6-10 are standing. It is pretty hard to regularly chop either the 6 or the 10 when both are standing up.

This has really helped me over the last year. Have picked up 4% points on my spares over all and most importantly 4% more single pins spares in part by using this system. Another piece of my improvement is due to targeting the pins and not a spot or mark I want the ball to hit to get to the pin in question. Think it was RobM that mentioned that tip some time ago to someone else and I tried it and it worked great.

Awesome, that makes a lot of sense and I think I remember seeing Rob mention it before but I never thought to implement it myself. You're living proof it's effective haha and I'm definitely willing to give it a shot! Thinking about it now, most of my misses come with me still hitting my target but the ball is on the wrong path through the target. So I'm not missing what I'm aiming at but I'm missing the actual thing I'm trying to hit. Thanks for the advice!

Started off my night last night with a 6-7-10 split which I missed and then was clean for the next 29 frames. And with those 29 out of 30 clean frames I shot a monster 584 series!!! 203-192-189 which made for a wonderfully frustrating night where I just couldn't find a way to knock all 10 pins down with one ball. The only plus I took out of it was that I tried shooting my spares by looking at the pin instead of the arrows and I didn't miss all night, silver lining to an otherwise poor night.

I didn't get a chance to bowl last Wednesday or this past Tuesday due to other obligations but I was back at it last night and I have to say I'm in love with the new targeting method! I consider myself to be a decent spare shooter and my percentages were already at 80+ percent for the 6 pin, 10 pin, and 6-10. But with the new method I feel like unless something goes terribly wrong I'm never gonna miss again and I guess that's the confidence you should have when shooting spares! It's a small sample size but my past 2 trips out I've shot at 22 combined 6s, 10s, and 6-10s and I haven't missed one!

As for my scores last night I once again had 29 of 30 clean frames but the only difference this time was that the strikes were a plenty! I did my best Vdub impression and shot 221-243-244 for a really nice 708 series! It was my second 700 and my second highest series only behind the 727 I shot last season...I'd say last night was a good night!

Thanks guys. I've always been told that and I'll always believe that. Every time out my goal isn't a particular score or series but it's to have as close to 30 clean frames as possible. I consider myself to be a relatively good spare shooter but I've been on another level entirely as of late. Ever since I implemented the new system where I target the pin instead of the arrows I haven't missed a "makeable" spare and that continued last night.

Game 1 - I couldn't buy a strike. I only had two and left 4 10 pins, an 8, a 9, and two big splits which I failed to convert for a lowly 171.

Game 2 - Started with a 10 pin and ended with a 10 pin but I found a couple strings in between and shot 225 clean.

Game 3 - I left a 10 pin in the 2nd and a 10 pin in the 7th while the rest were all strikes and I ended with a really nice 259.

171-225-259 for a 655 with 28/30 clean frames. Left and converted 8 10-pins last night and in my last 3 outings I have 86 out of 90 possible clean frames with all 4 opens being big splits. I'm hoping to keep the good times rolling tonight and will let you all know how I do!

I kept the good times rolling last night and I seem to be peaking at just the right time with the playoffs due to start next Wednesday.

246-202-233 for a nice 681 last night.

Somehow didn't manage a single clean game last night as I whiffed my first 10-pin out of my last 20+ attempts in game 1, couldn't convert the big 4 in game 2, and couldn't convert the 8-10 in game 3. 27/30 is still a solid night though and I hope I can bring it next week when it counts!

Mark O
04-30-2015, 11:40 AM
Didn't bowl on Tuesday and the good times did not keep rolling last night...they crashed right into a wall. I wasn't throwing it as well as I've been, didn't carry when I did throw it well, and when I made a mistake I paid a huge price for it every single time. Made a ball switch, changed hand positions, didn't matter, I didn't have an answer.

Didn't miss one "makeable" spare, unfortunately didn't leave many though because I opened on 7(!) nasty splits and couldn't manage anything more than a double all night long. Shot 164-195-178 for a big 537 when my team needed me the most and we made yet another 1st round exit in the playoffs. It was a big kick in the cornflakes after bowling so well over the past couple weeks and this one is going to sting for a while.

Last night was the final night of my Tuesday night league and it ended on a bit of a somber note but I ultimately achieved my goal on the season and I am happy about that.

I shot 202-168-181 for 551 but it was enough and I will finish that league with a 200 average, my highest ever sanctioned average and my goal average going into the season. I have 1 week remaining in my Wednesday night league and I am currently sitting at 200 in that league as well so I am hoping to make it a clean sweep in reaching my goal!

Thanks everyone! I shot a consistent 204-201-206 last night for 611 and finished Wednesday nights with a 200 average on the nose as well! I reached the goal in both leagues and I am overall very happy with my performance and improvement this year.

I unfortunately lost all of my stats for this year because I switched phones and I thought I saved the database file to transfer over but apparently I didn't and now I have to start over. Before I lost it though I was at 50% strikes, 88% single pins(82% on the 10 pin), and 14% open frames and that is up from 47% strikes, 81% single pins(60% on the 10 pin) and 19% open frames last year. I am looking to improve on those categories again next season as I look toward bigger and brighter things!

Finally was back in action after not bowling much over the summer. The first week back was certainly interesting and I did some uncharacteristic things that made for an odd night. Just to name a few:
-My first practice shot stuck to my thumb and was lofted about 6 feet into the air and it thumped right into the gutter
-Bowled on the wrong lane once, almost did it a second time
-Left the Big 4 then proceeded to whiff on all 4 pins and I also pulled a shot and got a first ball 4 count for the first time in a long time
With all that being said though I didn't bowl all that bad and a few missed spares and bad count cost me what could have been a pretty good night: 231-173-181 for 585

Thanks Vdub I think I did indeed shake the cobwebs out because last night was much better! 213-211-231 for 655 with no accidental lofting and no bowling on the wrong lane :D 28 clean with a missed 7-10 in the 10th of game 1 and a missed 10 pin in 10th of game 2 DOH!
Tonight is the first night back on Wednesdays so hopefully the good times will roll!

Wednesday wasn't quite the strike party that Tuesday was and it ended up being quite a disappointing start to the Wednesday night season. I feel like I bowled relatively well but carrying well was a different story.
Game 1: I left 1 4-pin, 1 7-pin, 1 8-pin, 1 9-pin, and 2 10-pins along with a split and 3 strikes for a measly 169 due to whiffing a couple single pins.
Game 2: I switched balls and proceeded to leave 1 4-pin, 1 7-pin, 1 8-pin, 1 9-pin, and 2 10-pins or in other words the exact same as before along with 4 strikes for a 182
Game 3: Was more of the same but I didn't leave the entire back row this game and mainly just left the corners in a clean 204 game.

169-182-204 for 555 and a 185 average to start since we stupidly establish a new average after only 3 games in this league. Better luck next time!

Another week and another set of up and down performances. This week Tuesday was the poor night while Wednesday was lights out.
177-217-150 for 544 on Tuesday. Had approach issues early, got into a bit of a groove, and then missed a few easy spares and the wheels fell off for the rest of the night.
225-235-221 for 681 on Wednesday. Very different from the night before as I was striking early and often and I can count the number of poor shots I made on one hand. Unfortunately I whiffed a 7 and a 10 and it cost me 700 but overall a very nice night.

Thanks Amyers, unfortunately I didn't fare too well last night.
Shot 194-211-162 for 567 with 10(!) open frames throughout the night. Don't know what happened, just started missing everything from single pins to whiffing count on big splits. Thankfully when I struck they came in bunches so the scoring wasn't terrible but definitely in need of improvement!

A little better on Wednesday, only 6 opens instead of 10 :p Nothing easy this time though, 5 big splits and a washout were my unfilled frames and for the most part strikes were a plenty again.
186-244-182 for 612 on the night.

Haven't posted because I had a week away from the lanes. Was back at it this week and was more of the same, found success on Tuesday and the struggles continued on Wednesday.
Tuesday: 222-221-215 for 658. Was striking a lot (obviously) but never managed to get any long strings together, just doubles and triples here and there, overall solid consistent night.
Wednesday:133-227-182 for 542. Started off opening on 4 of my first 5 shots and never really recovered. Finally got myself locked in as I ended game 2 with 6 strikes in a row and started game 3 with 3 more. Wheels fell off again though and I ended the night as poorly as I began it.

Another up and down week in the books. Was held up and late on Tuesday so I only got to bowl 2 games and they were a pair of 169s...yuck.
Wednesday I was on time and got to bowl 3 games which was nice and shot 235-178-201 for 614.
For comparison sake I had 8 opens in 2 games on Tuesday and only 2 in 3 games on Wednesday...good times :D

I look at it the same way Tony! 600+ is a good day and 700+ is a great day and I had one of each this week, best week of the year so far!

197-208-254 for 659 on Tuesday. Whiffed a 10 pin in the first frame of the night but was otherwise clean for a real nice series.

200-289-238 for 727! on Wednesday. Chopped the 3-6-10 in the first frame of the night(I seem to like to start slow lol) and had a 7-10 split but other than that had 28 clean. The 289 is my new high score beating my previous best of 288 and the 727 is tied for my highest ever series. Very happy with my performance this week and I can't wait to get back out there!

Thanks everyone I appreciate it! I have been using a Track MX10 primarily with a Track 300c as a ball down option once the MX10 stops carrying the corners. This week I didn't even need to bring the 300c out of the bag, it was all MX10 for 6 games.

Haven't been able to post in a while but I am happy to report that the hot streak is still rolling on!
Last Tuesday: 180-243-186 for 609.
Last Wednesday: Off
This Tuesday: 212-207-213 for 632.
This Wednesday: 221-245-196 for 662.

That makes 6 600+ series in a row and I feel like I'm rolling the ball extremely well right now.
My strike ball has been on point and I've been striking close to 60% of the time over the past month.
However over the past month I also have a 16% open frame rate even with the good scoring. That averages out to 5 opens a night and that definitely needs to be improved upon. I'm learning and improving every week and I can't wait for it to be next Tuesday already!

Nice Mark. Keep at it. Since you are striking so much, assuming it is single pin leaves that are messing you up. Good practice session can help take care of those. Just a few more closed frames and you are improving 20+ pin per series.

Thanks Vdub, you're exactly right! The majority of my leaves are single pins with the rest being nasty splits when I get a little slow with my shot. Those I can't do much about but there's a lot I can do about the single pins. Last year I was close to 90% on my single pins and around 80% on the 10 pin. This year so far I'm only at about 75% on my single pins and 60% on the 10 pin. I obviously know how to make it, I'm just not doing it which tells me it's probably more upstairs than anything else. You're right though nothing a few games of lowball can't fix, gotta get out and practice!

The good times kept rolling this week as I finished off November nicely.

Tuesday: 206-208-214 for 628. Very proud of how I shot on this night because it was a battle all night. There was about a 10 board difference between the right and left lanes and the strikes didn't come as easy as they have in previous weeks. Made every non-split spare including 10 single pins and stayed relatively clean all night. In the past a night like this would have been around 540 so I'm very happy with 628.

Wednesday: 264-191-248 for 703. The strikes came much more often on Wednesday. Only had 2 bad shots all night where I left the 3-6-10 at the end of the first game and the greek church in the middle of the second. Other than that it was nothing but strikes and 9s with the majority of those being corner pins. Lost a bit of carry in the 2nd game but was firing on all cylinders again tonight to end up with my 2nd 700 of the month.

Ultimately averaged 218 in the month of November so I'd say it was a very successful month and I'm looking to continue that going into December!

Fantastic shooting. One of my goals is to reach 700.

Thanks again all, the game is really fun right now haha. If you can throw 300 Blomer, you can definitely throw 700, it's only a matter of time!

My 600 streak finally came to an end on Tuesday night. I shot 182-186-214 for 582 on the night. I ran into a really tough pair where the right lane was very wet/dry and was giving all the rightys fits all night. I couldn't adjust and found it really hard to double, combine that with a few bonehead single pin misses and it made for a relatively lackluster night. Frustrating but chalked it up as a learning experience!

Thankfully I bounced back nicely on Wednesday with 210-258-181 for a 649 series. 3rd game should have been much better as I inexplicably threw a gutter  and also tugged a shot and got a nice 4 count on one of my spares. Other than those two blemishes the ball was working well and I'm back on track!

Nice set. I haven't popped 700 year this year, but it's coming!

I checked out your thread and 700 is coming and soon!

Another solid week of bowling, can't find too much to complain about but there is always room for improvement!
Tuesday Night: 232-214-244 for 690. Strikes, Strikes, and more Strikes! 2 opens on the night, whiffed a 10 pin and left a 7-10 split. Drives me crazy though because I made the 10 out of the 7-10, I would have gladly traded and missed it there and made the single 10 pin spare instead haha.

Wednesday Night: 186-237-259 for 682. Strikes, Strikes, and even more Strikes! Also had 2 opens tonight and they were just...bad. They were both in the first game, the 1st I lost it off my hand, dove right through the 3 pin and got 5 through the middle and only 3 on the spare attempt. The 2nd I also lost it off my hand and I got a nice 4 count off the right side. I only got 3 on the spare attempt for a whopping 7 total in the 10th frame, yay! I don't know how these things happen when I'm throwing it so well but they do! Thankfully everything else was either 9 or an X and overall a very good night!

Haven't really been able to get on the site lately so I have some catching up to do. Hit a momentary slump after bowling lights out for a little over a month but bounced back nicely this week. My scores for the rest of the month were as follows:
Tuesday 12/15: 214-231-191 for 636
Wednesday 12/16: 181-205-186 for 572
Tuesday 12/22: 214-200-182 for 596
Wednesday 12/23: 209-171-191 for 571
Tuesday 12/29: 213-191-203 for 607
Wednesday 12/30: 237-248-173 for 658

With that the first half of the season has come to a close and I am very happy with where I currently stand. My average is at 205 on Tuesdays and 209 on Wednesdays which is a nice improvement on my last year's book average of 200. I'm hoping to maintain and improve that average as we head into 2016!
