New to posting on the forums, but figured this was any easy one to get in on :)

So far I'm 3 weeks into the only league I'm currently bowling in, which is a triples league. This was the only league I bowled last year as well, which was after a 10 year layoff. I averaged 185 over the entire season last year.

This year didn't start off too well for the first 2 weeks, but I was battling an injury with one of my bowling fingers courtesy of training for cricket. It was relatively painful and I couldn't use my plastic spare ball due to my finger being swollen. Right hand spares were an issue and my release was quite inconsistent so minimal strikes. It's still causing me issues but not as much now, so the other night wasn't so bad scores wise.

Anyway, the first 3 weeks have gone as follows:
Wk1: 146, 157, 163 = 466
Wk2: 199, 156, 159 = 516
Wk3: 190, 190, 247 = 627

Welcome to the site and good job on improving every week.
Keep at it.

Where are you from Tezza? You mention cricket. Not a sport that is typically played in the US.

Tezza, G'Day! Saw you're from Australia in your introduction post.

Answered my own question.

Yep, Perth in Western Australia. I did wonder whether many of you would know what cricket is :)

I continued last weeks form into this week, with 3 pretty solid games:

Wk4: 235, 193, 226 = 654

First game had two open frames; a 7 1 and a single pin (7). Second game had two open frames as well; pocket 8-10 split and a single pin (10). Third game was clean. Pretty happy overall with this week, although two single pin misses and a solid pocket 8-10 aren't so good. After this week my average will be moving from 178 to 188, so a fair jump there.

Thanks, I hope so!

Not bad, considering I know I have a bunch of things to work on when I have a chance to comprehensively look through the videos of myself I got taken a little while ago.

Somewhat mixed results this week, including my best game since I came back to bowling last year:

Wk5: 172, 279, 193 = 644

First game had 3 open frames; a 0 8 in the first frame (can't recall the last time I did that) and 2 single pins (4 and 10 pins). Second game was clean with only a solid pocket 10 pin keeping me from perfection. Third game had 2 open frames; a baby split and a pocket 8-10. Fairly happy with this week except for the single pin misses and the first frame gutter ball. After this week my average will be moving up again from 188 to 193.

Another very good week, with a bit of a dip in the middle but otherwise really solid. Actually my best series in the year and a bit I've been back since my long hiatus.

Wk6: 247, 174, 249 = 670

First game was clean. Second game had 3 splits and not many strikes. Just seemed to lose the groove. But it came back in game 3, starting with 7 before a lightish pocket hit left a 5-7-10!! Apart from that, game 3 was clean. So only splits for open frames all night. Average will now be up to 198.

LOL, it was a bit of a surprise. Can't recall leaving many ever, let alone after 7 in a row!

I watched a guy almost leave this Friday night but had messengers take out all three pins never seen the 5,7,10 all tripped out on the same shot

I would have much rather seen that happen to me :)

Pretty good week again, with the exception of one major unforgiveable and one minor unforgiveable.

Wk6: 193, 211, 232 = 636

First game had 1 open - 10 pin, and also couldn't strike consecutively until the 10th. Second game had 1 open also - gutter 7 no less! Dropped off my hand way early. Third game also had 1 open - split. Average will now be up to 200. Would be much more happy without the single pin miss and the gutter ball (after consecutive strikes as well!), but happy none the less anyway.

Nice shooting Tezza! Always good to improve as the night goes on.

Had a really good night again tonight, knocking off my high series since the 'comeback' last year, which I only set a couple of weeks ago. Shame I only won 1 of the 3 games though!

Wk8: 220, 255, 213 = 688

The only blip for the night was a 5-7-10 from a pocket shot, which became a 7-10 after a messenger took out the 5 :( Every thing else was clean, although there was a -/ in there after I dropped the ball badly. Average continuing to go up, to 204 now.

Thanks, I hope it continues! If you take off the first 2 weeks this season where I bowled pretty badly due to an injury, the last 6 weeks I've averaged around 217.

Not the best this week, considering the last few weeks, but not too bad really. Consistent strikes were hard to come by and I wasn't the only one.

Wk 9: 203, 187, 202 = 592

First game was clean, but only one double. Second game had one open (10 pin) and no doubles, despite every first ball being at least a 9. Third game I finally found some strikes starting with 5 in a row, only to be followed by two big splits and a 10 pin miss, which was a big score killer. Average will drop marginally to 203 now.

This sounds about like me here latley. Good shots a split a bunch of 10 pins. Nice shooting hope for better luck next week

So last night wasn't too bad scores wise, but I was more frustrated that I have been on other nights where my scores were lower. Main reason being, of the 7 open frames I had, 5 were single pins (4x 10s and a 7). I haven't missed 4x 10 pins in the last few weeks combined, let alone in one night and 3 were in the first game alone. This frustration was probably increased by being up against one of the best bowlers in the league.

Wk 10: 173, 235, 223 = 631

First game started with a washout, which I then pushed the 1 in front of the 10 to open, followed by missing 3x 10 pins. Could have been a much nicer game. Second game started well with 6 in a row and finished with a 7 pin miss in the 10th, otherwise closed. Third game had another 10 pin miss and I chopped the 6 after leaving the 6 10 in the last. Plenty of potential for a much higher series.

Of note, the guy I bowled against rolled out a 300 in the second game!!

Well, last night was definitely a mixed bag.

Had a really low scoring game in the first. Started it with a light hit strike (only one for the game) and then couldn't hit the pocket virtually for the entire rest of the game. I was very consistent on my first shot, but for some reason consistently 3 boards right of my target, so I kept coming up just short of the head pin and leaving 6 or 7 counts only including the odd washout, which I missed some of because I was missing my target similarly for the spare. Never had a game like it. Didn't help when I finally got a pocket shot late in the game and left an 8 10. I didn't really want to move as I knew if my hit my target like I normally would mostly at least, I would be in the right spot. So I opened 5 frames I think it was and finished with a 134 (70 below average)!

Then game 2 I was back to normal. The only thing I changed was concentrating on a couple of things with my stance and ball position, so I must been inadvertently doing something different in the first game. Much better game with two opens (7 pin and 6 7 split), finishing with 212. The two opens spoilt the score a little, but strung a few strikes and was back to usual.

After a big improvement between games 1 and 2, game 3 continued that improvement to the extreme. I couldn't miss and couldn't really have put down 12 shots any better, to nail my second ever 300!! Couldn't believe it! Every shot was in the pocket and with the exception of maybe 1 or 2, every one was solid and deep in the pocket, with not a hope of leaving anything behind. Our lanes were last to finish, so most of the league was watching me complete the game, which was great!

Not the best series for including a 300, but I'll take it :) Also, was nice to get a 300 after being on the receiving end of one only last week in the same league. That's now 3 in 3 weeks in that league!

Wk 11: 134, 212, 300 = 646

Well, since my 300 the last 2 weeks of league haven't been that flash. Had some trouble early both weeks getting my line sorted. bit of release inconsistency as well I think. Fair bit of trouble with 10 pin conversions too, which I hadn't been having most of the season. Seem to have a bit of the yips with them at the moment. So probably 10 pin conversions and lack of stringing strikes has generally been costing the higher scores I've generally been getting all season so far. These two weeks I've still averaged more than I was all of last season (185), but it's two of the only weeks this season so far I've averaged under 200. So not bad, but not as good as I have been this year. Hopefully tonight will be good :)

Wk 12: 151, 236, 190 = 577
Wk 13: 185, 206, 184 = 575
