Sounds like I'll be getting to go to nationals for my first time this year. Not sure about the location (El Paso) but I'm sure I'll find a way to have a good time regardless. :D
Anyone else going this year? thoughts? advice?
I've been wanting to go for a few years so I'm excited to get the chance.

Congrats on going for your 1st time! I think every league bowler should go at least once. Try not to stress to much and just enjoy the whole experience. Good luck to you!

I'll be there for my 3rd year in a row. As FTLOB said, just take it all in and not stress about it. Enjoy it, and the other side tournaments that they run. 40 Frame Game is a lot of fun as is the Bowlers Journal tournament.

I plan to go...if I ever get good enough to be competitive.
The problem is:
Can I bowl in only one of the events?
You can bowl team without bowling doubles and singles or vice-versa, but doubles and singles is a package deal. You cannot sign up for just one or the other.
I don't have a competitive team or even a doubles partner that would make that kind of trip. I'm competing in the local area open in singles/doubles with a guy from my current league team. But it was hard enough to talk him into doing THAT...and it's just a 20min drive to a local center. I don't know. I don't know how these kinds of teams get put together. I was hoping to find 2 more people to create a sport shot team for the summer...but I doubt my two teammates would want to, MWhite hates getting up at 7AM on a Sunday, and the local pro shop guy has been reluctant.
And then there's the problem that if I ever get good enough where going there is a reality...my average might be above the 180 mark and I won't be able to bowl against the "Classified" division folks. Thats why I was thinking of waiting until the average gets to 175-179...THEN give it a shot. I'm just not sure what happens if you want to participate, and can't find a sub for doubles or a team to bowl with. I guess with team...you just wouldn't do that event. But if you sign up for singles...and can't find a doubles partner...you might go all the way there for nothing.

You can just bowl team or d/s if you want. There is a sub board and people of all averages looking for someone. They usually are pretty specific with their averages and what they are looking for a replacement average.

I am going as a fill in. THere is a guy that usually takes 2 teams ever year and for whatever reason this year he had 4 guys back out. We may end up having to use the sub board for bowlers unless we can find another guy or 2. Far as I know none of us qualify for classified though.

I've been bowling for 45+ years and have never bowled nationals.
