I bring this up because my Cyclone bought just 2 months ago is showing it's age already. Has a few nicks and scratches. I use a few centers and I know sometimes it is the ball return.

But this last weekend we shared the same ball return with a group of people who seemed to know what they were doing. One had a Storm Frantic and had been bowling with it for years and looked clean like it was out of the box.

So are certain ball coverstocks just more resistant to scratches/dents?

For the most part balls are about the same in durablity.

The key is maintenance clean them after every set and have then resurfaced/refinished every so often.

Take it to the proshop, they have thing called a spinner which they use to sand balls to look like new and also to adjust the surface texture.

I do clean with ball cleaner (50% Simple Green with 50% Alcohol) after every session.

But mine and wifes balls have dents and scratches. I guess just bad luck with ball returns at our local centers
