Last night, 3/26/15, was an interesting night. For some reason, there were low scores across the board. I don't think anyone, out of 5 teams, hit 630, and I'm not sure why. The two best bowlers in the league (220 averages) struggled mightily. I bowled against one of them, who is a lefty like myself.....and he bowled 490. He couldn't find a line even in practice. The other 220 average bowler, also a lefty, had a 150 game and ended somewhere around 610-620 (didn't see him finish the last game).

The team I bowled was also the "lefty" team, so it was unusual for me to have so much traffic on my side of the lane. One guy (who had a 490 on a 220 average) plays almost the exact same line as me.

My stats were very odd:

Game 1: 225
10 pin (convert) to start, then strike, then 3 pin (convert), 5-bagger, 4 pin (convert).....so I had a chance for something in the 240s-250s. In the 7th, I started hitting high as my line broke down and was able to adjust. But, in the 10th, I had a 2-7 split that I failed to convert.

Game 2: 178
1-2-4-5 (convert) to start, then 2-4 (missed very badly; yanked it), double, 5-pin (convert), big 4 split (got 2), 10-pin (convert), strike, 4-7 (convert), strike, 4 pin (missed badly again; yanked it again).

Game 3: 180
10-pin (convert), strike, 10-pin (miss; threw a hook at it, and totally misjudged the oil pattern in doing so), 2-4 (miss; yanked it again), turkey, 2-7 split (got 1 pin, thought I had it actually), strike, 7-pin (convert) with an 8 on the last ball.

Night stats:
583 total
First Ball Average: 9.09
Strikes: 46%
Spares: 56%
Single-Pins: 77%
Multiple-Pins: 28% (ouch)
Splits: 0-3 (two 2-7 misses, and a big 4)

I really needed to ball down towards the end of the first game. I have the Bad Intentions (15lb), and my Ebonite Xxcel (16lb) was back from being being plugged/de-oiled. I tried to throw the Xxcel once, but the 1-pound difference in weight was surprisingly very noticeable....so I'm putting it out to pasture for the time being.

So, I'm now in the market for a less aggressive ball than the Bad Intentions. I love the thing--it kills the pin deck, and I love the motion of it. But, I need something a bit less aggressive for when things break down. All in all though, a decent night considering most of my errors were mental and not something I can't fix with proper practice. A 9+ first-ball average is pretty good, in my book.

4/2/15

564 total series

189, 183, 192

First Ball Average: 8.88

Strike Percentage: 39

66% spares, 60% on single pins (whiffed on a 7pin, 4pin, and somehow a 2pin among others). But, I did convert a 6-8-10 by bouncing the 6 and 10 off the side board....so that was pretty cool.

Another night where I could've shot 600+ if not for spares. I didn't get a ton of strikes last night because I struggled to find the correct line to the pocket. Oh well......on to next week. Only 2 weeks left, then a bit of a break before my summer league.

Rough night yesterday. 464.

165, 150, 149

Started out 9-spare in the first game (7pin). In the second frame, my slide foot stuck causing me to try to take a step with my plant foot.....and managed to pull my groin. I got the strike, but that was about all I had for the night; I couldn't push off well or get much consistency. I have a tournament Saturday and don't feel that well unless I'm drugged up.

First ball average: 8.47

Strikes: 21% (just 7 the entire night)

Spares: 58% (76% single pins, and converted a baby split)

Last night was one of the most frustrating nights of the season.

I scored 598 (214-173-211)....so why was it frustrating?

First ball average: 9.15
Strikes: 52%
Spares: 68% overall
Single Pin: 58% (5 for 8; 3....yes, 3....missed 7-pins, that weren't even close)
Multi-Pin: 75% (6 for 8; only 2 misses were a 4-7-6-10 split a 4-10 split)

In game 2, the 172, I had 2 missed pins, frames 7 and 8. Both were pocket shots. I don't normally leave a lot of 7s, but tonight was the exception. I left 4, and was 1-for-4 on them.

I could've shot 650 if I would've made those.

Yeah. Looks like the strike rate is solid but the spare game needs some additional work.

Well, tonight was rough. I'll spare everyone all of the gory details, but I shot 477 in the first night of my summer league after 2 weeks off.

151-144-182

Couldn't get my timing right, felt like a galute trying to throw. Nothing felt good or natural. Couldn't throw the same shot twice and sprayed all over my side of the lane.

Total- 516
188, 157, 171

My PSO was able to drill my new Storm Rocket for me last night, and I was able to use it exclusively for the third game. The conditions didn't necessarily warrant a ball change (I was the only lefty on our pair last night), but, I wanted to get some oil in the Rocket and get used to it.

Overall, a strange night.

First ball average: 8.61
Strike percentage: 33% (11 for 33; very low percentage, and never got above a double)
Single-Pin Spares: 100% (7 for 7, including two 7pins and two 8pins)
Multi-Pin Spares: 53% (7 for 13, including 2 splits; I managed to chop the 4pin off of two 4-7s in a row during the second game....ouch)
