Thinking of joining a local league. By joining you get a free ball. The three options are the DV8 Outcast, Hooligan, or Thug
I currently bowl an Ebonite Cyclone. Wife has a Maxim and is a straight bowler. She would be getting the Outcast.
Just wondering if the Hooligan is a logical next step ball or is it similar to Cyclone. Thug seems a bit too aggressive for me now.
What do you guys think?
By the way there would be a $40 up charge for the Thug

The Outcast is a step up from your Ebonite, then the Hooligan, and then the Thug. You could handle the Hooligan. Great ball. Goes long then flips.

Yeah was leaning towards Hooligan. Didn't realize even the Outcast is considered a step up from the Cyclone.
So is it a good deal for this league. $14/week for 14 weeks and get a free t shirt and choice of ball.
I mean other leagues are around same price but no free ball. Of course some have prizes or cash rewards while others are just practice leagues.
There is another $10 for 10 league. Basically $10/week for 10 weeks and you get a cheap house ball at the end.
This is my first time in leagues so just getting my feet wet. Not focused on just the freebies but all else being equal getting a nice bowling ball out of it is even better.

Sounds like a fun way to get a ball. Enjoy your Hooligan. The Outcast is only a small step above your cyclone.

I'm not sure there is much difference between the outcast and the cyclone. The thug or the hooligan would make a good step up might lean toward the thug myself. I know a couple of guys who really like them that own them

I have the original Thug, and it's a hard hooking ball on medium patterns or heavy volumed short patterns. The Hooligan is closer to my Black Widow Legend.

Yeah, wife will be getting Outcast for sure.
Now it's up to Hooligan vs Thug. Thug would cost $40 more. Thug may be too much for me now but I figure I'll grow into while still using the Cyclone.
Or just go to Hooligan and would be a gradual step up from Cyclone.
Not sure yet but leaning towards Hooligan. Figure it would be more useful with THS leagues. Don't plan to play many sport patterns yet

It's a bigger step from your Ebonite to the Hooligan than it is from the Hooligan to the Thug. Either ball is great, but you would get more use from the Hooligan. I have rarely found a condition in league that I can use the Thug. If I do use the Thug the shot lasts about a game, then I ball down to something less aggressive.

For the foreseeable future I plan to only bowl THS. No regular sport pattern so Thug will probably not get used much anyways. Hooligan it is
For my wife who is a straight bowler and uses conventional grip and really has no intention of ever bowling with a hook would she be better off with Outcast or Hooligan? Basically which one will go straighter and be less effected by lane conditions?

Either ball would work for her. The Outcast is close to your Ebonite. You can always add surface to it if it's squirting left or right. Should be fine though since it's a decent ball and not plastic.

A little revision is needed I guess. I did win the Roto Grip Unhinged from this site and it looks like that ball is very similar to the Hooligan. Do you agree? If so may have to just step it up to the Thug.

All three balls are similar. They are all skid flip type ball motions. From what I have seen The Thug is probably the most aggressive then the Unhinged then the Hooligan. I believe you would have some overlap with either of these balls. You could always look at a Dude or adjust the surface/drillings to spread them apart a little more

Yeah, only options are Outcast, Hooligan and Thug. May just go with Thug
