I never had time when I was younger to join a league (I was always working nights and weekends) so this beginner League is a first. After the first few rolls I begun to realize how beat up the oil patterns are when all you play are open bowl lanes. My normal right foot on the 21 board and the ball crossing the 10 board at the arrows did not hold. My first shot found my Radical Score in the right channel.. boy did I feel STUPID. By the third practice game things where going much better and found myself picking up my 10 pin spares much easier then on a dry lane. It's a new experience but one I'm sure I'll enjoy.

Enjoy! Glad to hear of "new" league bowlers.
Don't worry about throwing it in the channel--it happens to all of us!

How bad can my wife and I be and still join our 1st league, we just started up last week after a 6 year break but have always just played against each other and try to better our scores.

I just re joined a league after 3 years of not bowling. I worked long evening hours that were physically demanding and finally retired when I reached to age to do so. I am trying to use the same balls that I used before and I am about 35 pins less average than when I stopped bowling 3 years ago. Trying to make a comeback at 66 years old, Lol

Few years ago for the Del Ballard Jr in the championship match at the Fair Lanes Open needing 2 strikes and 7 pins got the first 2 strikes then dumped one in the channel. OUCH!!

You should enjoy the bowling. Great exercise and you can make some good friends (and possibly some not so good friends). Don't worry to much about how you are doing, you will get better.

Forgot I started this thread. The first league we did finish in first place. It was a fun league non sanctioned. We rejoined it 6 weeks ago. It's scored 2 points per game 3 games total and 1 point for over all pins. 6 weeks in and we are 12 points in the lead again. Which really isn't that hard considering only 5 people in our league of about 30 uses reactive bowling balls everyone else is using plastic and rolling straight up the middle. we do have some big handicap teams to play and as a result have taken a beating a time or two. Last week we faced a team that had a rather large (274) handicap and they all bowled 50 t0 60 pins over their average needless to say we got trounced upon. This weekend we are joining our first sanctioned league so I'm hoping it's not more of the same straight up the middle players. We shall see. By then I will have the Haywire drilled along with my Joy-Ride so the move from 13# balls to 14# ball will be complete. I have seen an increase of about 30 pins average since switching to 14s
