Well, since I did tell Aslan that I would attempt to do better at posting more instead of just reading, I will start by attempting to post my weekly scores for the summer leagues.

Friday am was the first week of the league, entering average was last summer's same league average of 179.

Scores - 215, 214, 208 = 637

We use our entering averages for two weeks, already wondering how my third week is going to be.

Monday night concludes next week and then we are moving to a Tues night league, starting in the 26th.

My bowling has been so up and down recently it is like a roller coaster. Last Monday, I bowled a 407 series to come back on Friday with this 637. I'm going to say it wasn't all me. On Tuesday, I took my "go-to" ball to the ProShop for deoiling and refinishing, new finger grips. I think I should stay on a program of 60-75 games and not wait so long next time around. Lesson learned, I hope!

While I was considerably under average, wasn't too disappointed as we were bowling on my least favorite pair. And we took 5 out of 7 points.

Next week - no bowling as they scheduled an event for the entire house. The week after at least I'll have the average down to 190.

I'm trying to be happy with any series over 500 for the rest of the season. I'll see if that helps…because lately I think I'm putting too much pressure on myself to hit that ellusive 700 and I need to just take things slow and appreciate a consistent, yet improving, 500s/600s series.

Blaming it on a long day, not bowling in over a week, and trying some of the new things that Mark & I worked on.

Must need more practice, or more vacation to use just for bowling.

Since I don't get to practice much anymore, I was determined not to fall back into bad habits I wanted to break, so I went for it...and paid the price.

Friday am started some of the same...159, then a 186, managed a clean third game of 225, for a 570 to hold my established average of 190 - ? YIKES....can I hold that for 13 weeks? And then, if I do, I will expect myself to hold that thru the coming fall. Time will tell.... - But, I won't sandbag, EVER, even if the 190 average scares me!

Since I don't get to practice much anymore, I was determined not to fall back into bad habits I wanted to break, so I went for it...and paid the price.

Hey...I'm not saying I haven't done it. When you think you have an "a-ha!" moment...you get excited and try to put it to use. Absolutely.

And I'm right there with ya. In my Wednesday league I average 191...19 pins higher than I've ever averaged in a league. And each time I look up and see < 20 pins handicap it scares the poo out of me. Suddenly I miss 4-5 spares and I'm costing my team points.

4 opens, 17 spares, and 10 strikes with a lowly 8.9 first ball average. Glad I had lots of spares and should have had less opens, but the strikes were rather scarce. Felt good the games were consistent...something that has been lacking lately, among a few other things.

Friday morning league - 190 average after 3 weeks

Rough day, as it was rainy and very clammy. Approaches were not to my liking. Guess I must be a fair weather bowler!

167, 215, 171 = 553 (17 pins under established average) yet, 13 pins over goal average of 180

Will drop average to 188

Tuesday evening - 178, 176, 171 - 525, right on my 175 average. Consistent with 4 strikes, 4 spares, and 2 opens each game. Just couldn't get anything going.

Friday morning - 136, 169, 159 - 464, 100 pins under my inflated average of 188; now down to 181. Should be manageable at that. It was extremely hot in the center and I was not a happy camper the whole day.

Hope this week shows some improvement.

At 110-115 degrees, no amount of air conditioning will keep an alley cool enough to bowl comfortably. Tues was a bit miserable, Friday not as bad since morning temp when we started was only in the 90's.

Not a great week, but not disappointing either, other than losing the first game on Friday by a mere 4 pins when I shoot a measly 160.

Lol. Come to Cleveland. It was below zero for nearly a week straight this past winter and there were dump trucks being emptied of snow and ice into the lake.

Cleveland doesn't need any help from you on convincing people it's terrible. For that matter, it really didn't need mother nature's help either.

Last time I was in Cleveland I walked from the hotel to a bowling alley thinking I might roll a few…and got there to find that it had been closed down for some time despite the sign being up and it still being in the yellow pages. Glad I walked through what appeared to be one of the worst neighborhoods of Iraq to get there.

Monday PM - 06/06 - 159, 189, 177 = 525. 99 pins under average. I killed the team but we still managed to take 2 1/2 points out of 7. Average down to 191
Monday PM - 06/13 - 188, 153, 160 = 501. 72 pins under average. Still killed the team and had a sub establishing an average. Lost all 7. Average now manageable at 183.

Learned that this summer league is only getting a layover of oil, not a full strip and oil like we did in the fall. That explains some of the issues we have been experiencing. Now that I know this, it may be easier to adjust.

Dismal bowling...could not hit my mark consistently. Still some pain after bowling in am due to new therapy sessions on Thursday. Should get better with time. Have to keep enduring, so I will be ready for Vegas tournament next month.

What is a layover

Instead of stripping/cleaning the old oil off the lanes and putting down a fresh oil pattern, they are just putting a fresh coat of oil across the left overs.

The oil isn't as consistent then across the lane and you can have leftover carrydown etc.

We found a way to compete.

Twice a week they stripped the whole lane with one of these.

It looks like, at least in this league, your first game is usually your best, the second is your worst and the last is a bit better but still significantly less than the 1st. I’m guessing this is a transition issue, or could it be something else?

John, interesting isn't it.

Funny thing, the first game I am extremely distracted due to being secretary/treasurer. Answering questions, counting money, etc. Usually finish at end of first game. My teammates are thinking once I start paying attention, I bowl worse. Don't believe it.

Think it's more transition. I am slow in seeing the transition and moving. It seems I chase it all second game. Then the third game, I seem to chase less, as we have learned that we now have to go back right. Many of us are transitioning that way - it defies all that I know about bowling, but moving more left just isn't working during the third game.

Going to try and make a bigger transition move during the second game instead of just dinkying around with it. It's a summer league - time to experiement.

Funny thing - I'm anchor on this team. Haven't played there in many years as my major teammate averages 200, so she is always anchor. I'm happy just throwing one frame at a time. Today's second game I knew was close. Double and 7, to win the game by 1. I really need to practice my "stress" frames. Ugh.

Finally went way outside in 5th frame of 3rd game and was able to get lucky to strike out.

With the heat and the "summer" oil, I am struggling to find anything that is consistent. Including me...I'm hot, the air conditioning comes on, it cools off. Then it's hot. Then I sweat. I swear I spent more steps going to the ladies room to wash my hands than I did bowling. I hate humidity!

Well, mostly - but I still sweat. AND, it is monsoon season so more humidity - might be up to 18% today/tomorrow. AND, it might rain (for about 5 minutes).

Add to this that they usually end up shampooing the carpeting in the bowling center right in the middle of monsoon season. There have been many times that I've had to resort to a one step approach because sliding became totally impossible!

So glad most of our houses took the carpeting out. Sooooo much nicer, cleaner, and you can usually see spills before you step in them. I struggle with the humidity when it first starts up in monsoon season.
