A dude is n my league with 127 average going into tonight bowled a 575 series. What's more amazing that he throws straight ball. Has anyone ever saw a straight down the middle bowler hit 575?

Yes. A couple years ago a guy in our league averages a 125 and bowled a 617 series.

It's not that uncommon, but almost everybody who has been bowling for awhile switches to reactive balls, which would be stupid to try and throw them straight. I've seen some younger kids throw 600s with conventional grips and plastic balls.

Yeah, one of my teammates throws straight and averages 160. He's hit 600 a few times... basically has a really good spare game.

My average used to be just shy of 200. I threw a straight ball. It's not that unusual.

It all depends on consistency. If he can repeat shots that's all that matters.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that's all that matters.

Imagine you throw a fairly weak ball, but you never miss the pocket.

That sounds good until you count up the number of times you've left an 8-10 split.

Repeating the shot is important, but getting good back end movement is equally important.

A guy who bowls with a buddy of mine and comes down to practice after my league throws a straight ball, fires it like a rocket and has a pretty good spare game, his avg is 196 .

Any body can have an exceptional night. Maybe this will be what he needs to want to get better.

The consistency comment reminded me of a post here a couple of years ago: which is more important, accuracy or consistency? Accuracy. I can consistently throw the ball in the gutter or more likely, consistently miss the ten pin. Neither of those consistent things help with scoring. Consistently accurate would be ideal but only in fantasy for me.

Absolutely.

This past winter, had a guy who helicopters the ball and drifts across the approach throw a 278 and something in the 620s. He made too many wrong mistakes.

I'm surprises someone hasn't said "it only happens when they are bowling against my team"
haha

I've seen many players get on a roll a few times and have stellar nights.

I don't see this being any different than a 190 ave throwing a 800+ series. Its 200+ pins over average
