Hello all. It's been awhile..

Fall league starts in about 5 weeks here. Last year I averaged 170 in my second year of bowling. My goal this year to to average 180 and to drastically improve on my 10 pin. Been bowling a lot this summer, I'm a teacher so have that extra time, and been reaching that mark and my 10 pins I've been knocking down a lot more than I did last fall. Hopefully it continues.

I'm looking to break the magic 200 average mark by increasing my strike percentage. My spare conversions are pretty good granted that I don't leave too many splits (in my opinion, I haven't tracked my games very closely yet). I'd also like to be a lot better on sport patterns given that I am very inexperienced on them, but I'm not sure they will be available for practice at my center.

I just got a new Galaxy S6 as well, so now I have the "Bowling Night" app installed to track my stats my carefully.

Edit: Also forgot to add, I desperately need a new high game. My high game isn't all that high considering my average. High series would be nice too, but I'm almost certain I'll get a new high series.

Fall goals would be to average 210+ in all 3 leagues I'll be bowling in. I'd also like to throw a 750+ series this year.

Crack the 200 avg barrier. And I just got a S6 as well John. Gonna have to check out that app.

Well one of my leagues start Saturday it's a high level 4 person mixed league in a house that I've just started to bowl some in. It is another house with wood lanes but from what I've been able to tell so far this house is much higher scoring than the house I'm currently bowling in. My goal there is average 195-200 and my team finish in the top half.

The other main league I will bowl this year is at a synthetic lane house that I've bowled at quite a bit but never a league there. It is also a 4 person mixed league. I've never bowled well in this house the lanes there are slicker than any synthetics I've ever bowled on even when they are dry they play long. I don't have problems getting to the pocket there but carry has always been an issue for me in this house. Most of my equipment is weaker equipment drilled to go long I think this maybe the issue so I'm going to add a stronger piece to the lineup and hope for the best.

I will be bowling with my wife on both of my teams which will be nice. One of the local houses is doing a youth/adult short sport pattern leagues this fall I may bowl some of those with my daughter. I guess my biggest goal is just to feel that I've improved over the fall because I really don't feel that way after this summer especially with the amount of work I put in.

My goals for the next year:

1. Raise average in my 2 leagues to 225. Was at 223 last year in both.
2. Raise my Single pin spare pick up to 96%, last year was 94%. Biggest part is 10 pin - Need to raise it a few more % points, last year was 91%.
3. Shoot 1850-1900 at USBC Open Nationals next year.
4. Maybe a few more 300 games, and would like 1 more 800.

I would also like to raise my average to 200 at 1 house and 195 plus at the other. The houses are quite different and the low average is much more a social league which takes away a lot of concentration. Except on the food that always shows up.

My goal for this year has nothing to do with my average or percentage. My goal for this year is simply to have fun! As a coach and a bowling writer, it is very easy for me to fall into a pattern of taking the game way to seriously. After all, it's a game and unless you have to depend on your bowling to earn a living, it is supposed to be fun.

200+ average in both leagues
700+ series in both leagues
90% single pin conversion rate overall
50% strike rate
300 game would be nice, but not holding my breath. Still have to get out of my head when I get to the 10th :P

My primary goal will be the same as usual to have fun!
Beyond that I would like to get my average into the 200 area, I have ended the last several seasons at 180 and what normally happens is I start poorly because I never practiced during the summer than I bowl pretty well the last 1/3 of the season. I kept track of it last year and averaged 193 over the last 10 weeks.
I haven't really kept track of high series so I'm not sure what my best is but would like to register a 750 this season.

My goal is for my team to WIN!!

Personally, I want to develop a stronger mental game. I need to work on consistently making good shots every time up instead on dwelling on my past mistakes. Also I need to put in a lot more practice on my spare shooting. I'm going to do a better job of keeping track of my bowling with ones of the apps out there

After a 12 year break from bowling I am going to bowl league again. I left after the 2001-02 season averaging 215 and hope to get over 200 again. I also want to have fun bowling to. Steve

I came back from a similar length break about two years ago. My oh my has the equipment change. If you averaged that back then, you shouldn't have an issue getting there again with the modern equipment.

This year's goal is to have the same average as the last league 20 years ago, 180 & a 700 series or two.

I understand this. Practice time for me is going to be 7 to 11 on Wednesdays. That's a little later than my liking.

Thanks for the words of encouragement but I am a lot older and don't have the power I once had. Yes the equipment is much stronger plus synthetic lanes may help. Will find out in the new season. Steve

Last season I hit the 200 average mark for the first time in my life in both of my leagues.
This season my goal is going to be to maintain and improve on that average.
Wouldn't hurt to add throwing 300 to the list

This years goals? Avoid injury, and getting upset over things I have no control over. To remember bowling is more of a social event, while trying to win every point. Every day is a gift and that could change at any time. Numbers wise to average 200+ for the 28th straight year.

Yeah 800 by itself is a big night.

When you shoot 300, people ask you how many 300's have you shot now, like 1 isn't good enough.

1) This will be my 3rd year in Wed. league. First year could not find a good shot and averaged 186. Last year, got a new, heavy-oil ball and averaged 196. This year got a new ball for the dryer conditions in game 2-3, hope to average at least 206.
2) Bowl more 300 game(s).
3) Never had 800, would like to get that, if not this year, then soon, before I get too old.
4) Make a big improvement on ten pins.
5) Actually practice during the season, which I haven't done for years and years.
6) Bowling new league on Thursdays, first goal is to find a full team.

Goals for 2015:

1) Always throw a clean game and/or a 550+ series.
2) Finish Fall/Winter in the top 20% of BOTH leagues in average.
3) Increase my strike % from 37% to 55% or higher.
4) Increase single-pin spare shooting % from 76% to 83% or higher.
5) Bowl a 266 (or higher) sanctioned game.

Given the differences I've found from center to center...I figured I'd change my average target to the top 20% of the league.

Bowling the scores I have when I practice now my league scores. Seems when ever I have to bowl to beat another team I choke

I think I'm rare in that I'm the opposite. If there's nothing on the line and nobody watching...I get too inside my own head and don't make good shots. But when I know all eyes are on me and I'm competing...my inside voice tends to step aside and lets me just focus on performing.

That being said...the one thing I have to learn to deal with better (mental side of the game) is in how I respond to bad shots or when I can't carry the team to victory. I was anchor last year for the first time and probably will be on my Monday night team this year...and while normally that HELPS me perform....when I do fail...afterwards that is very hard on me. The fact that you let other people down (in addition to yourself) adds a degree of frustration that I haven't quite learned how to deal with.

I should be used to it after being a hockey defensemen for so many years....but I guess in hockey I could shrug it off that "well, I suck at hockey...so, **** happens." With bowling...I know that I CAN perform at a high level...so when I don't...that hurts more.

Maybe next season's goals will require a sports pshychologist. :o

Aslan you may have hit on it for I also play the anchor for the team. Lost a game by 2 pins last week. All I could think was leaving that 1 pin on my spare shot in the 10th cost us it all.

You nailed it Aslan I feel the same way when I lose a close one. I'll second the fact you need a psychologist but it really doesn't have anything to do with sports

What has irks me the most is In practice I roll a high of 233 then in league 150 looks good. Come on now I really would rather not have a handicap!

What you and Aslan need to remember is that unless all your teammates rolled 300s, they also share some of the blame for losing, because they could have bowled better too.

that is true they each missed their spare in the 10th but I had a 6 10 spare and left the 6 that sucked but it's only 1 game we got the other 2.

Since this is my first time in a league, I'd like to average 200 for the season and after 2 weeks so far so good. Shot a 650 first week and a 590.
