Do you get upset after a missed spare, a bad game, or a bad set? Do you kick and scream or get really hard on yourself? Do you get upset at teammates who misses a spare? If you're that type that kicks and screams and throw things down after YOU messed up AND DON"T PRACTICE, only bowling 3 games a week.....please sit down and shut up! I'm not on here to cause friction among you fine folks, but it's annoying when people get REALLY upset over things they could of prevented if they only PRACTICED.
If you had chances in your childhood to learn to swim and never took that chance for lessons cause you didn't want to, and then you jumped into deep water and drowned.....who's at fault?
If you can't find time at all to practice even for 30 mins. it's still not an excuse. you decided to join leagues. you decided to wear the seat belt in your car or not. With no practice, there's bigger chances you will miss a single pin often, or any spare leaves. with no seat belt used, there's bigger chances you'll have more serious injuries in an accident vs. wearing your seat belt.
Don't waste your energy getting so upset at a missed 10 pin, or not being in time, or not striking when you needed to if you don't practice at all.
I don't call 10 mins of practice before leagues practice. It's part of warming up. Plus, I don't see bowlers trying to hit the ten pin at all during warm ups. They wait till they leave a ten pin when the lights come on.
Rant off.....

I don't ever get visibly upset over such things, but I do feel a little sad inside sometimes when I make a bad shot. I'm definitely not somebody you are referring to, but I understand the frustration. I've bowled with people like that before. The funny part is, one guy averaged about 140 and would always get mad when he missed, but he used a conventional grip on a polyester ball and was trying to throw the same way that everybody else does with a fingertip grip. Needless to say, he was just an angry person most of the time.

I tried that theory.
At one point I bowled 5 days a week, in 6 leagues.
That was back when winning a league meant you made more money than you spent.
Now to high of a % goes to lineage.

I don't curse or get mad at my teammates, but sometimes when i miss a spare I drop violently to the floor, and do a push up from there, people think its about a push up, but no its about a violent drop to the floor lol. I do bowl almost daily.

My teammate left a 4 10 split and I made a bet with the fellas that I'd do 30 push ups if he picks it up. Granted, he is a 165-170 bowler and a lefty, so I was confident I wasn't going down. I never bet against him again......lol
There is a guy in every league like that, it seems! We have a guy that gets pissed, curses loudly, kicks the ball returns and throws balls whenever he gets a pocket hit that doesn't carry or misses any spare .....no one really like bowling against his team because of it...well that and the really strange woman that comes down with one of his teammates, but that's another story.

Heck no, not me. I get ticked off at myself and call myself dumb a** sometimes.
I laugh at the idiots that get so ticked off at their own mistakes.
Really shows your maturity level that you have to take out frustrations on an inanimate object.
We have kickers, screamers, bitchers, and throwers too. As was said, comes with every league and seems with every skill level too. Seen some great bowlers kicking returns.

I've been know to call myself some names and curse under my breath but I don't kick the equipment or scream curses out or anything. I would never react poorly to what a team mate does. I know how I feel after something like that wouldn't want to add to it for anyone.

What I learned early in my on and off again career is that I THREW that Round Object. The pins don't change position. The oil stays pretty much the same from when I started. I am the variable.

Isn't the point of a team to work together and pick each other up? Like most people I do get upset with myself but I suck and will no matter how much I practice. All my teammates know what bowling with me entails and they are still good with it.
Besides I would rather focus on improving my coaching skills than my own game. That being said I do practice around 50 games a week during the summer season.
I kind of want to hear about that strange woman now.
The strange woman looks a bit like a troll only larger than you expect for a troll, she will wander up and down the lanes all night hardly ever sitting still. She is constantly talking and often appears to be arguing or stopping and looking back as if someone should be catching up with her, but she is alone. Only once in a while sitting at the table with the angry guy and one of his teammates who brings her with him....girlfriend, spouse, detainee, not sure what the relationship is...we just try not to look directly at her but she walks around so much she just about walks into you at some point while you are trying to navigate to the lanes.
She is not to be confused with sweatsuit girl....and even scarier and smellier one....

bowling is a game of repetition - if you get so worked up that it throws off your pace, well, you'll only make it worse.

So very true! We used to bowl against a team where one of the guys would get so worked up his game would fall apart. The thing that got him there was one of our guys was not always ready to go bowl on his turn.....

I definitely get upset at myself and call myself names... but I try to keep it a secret that I'm getting flustered and calm myself down. Part of the reason I get so upset when I miss a spare is because I practice so much and expect more from myself. As for teammates....I don't even care.. I Just give the "don't worry man, you'll get it next time" or something to that effect if I say anything. I'm too focused on what I need to do in terms of adjustments and keeping my emotions in check to worry about other people.

I stop getting angry when I mess up. Even when it looks like a strike ball - looking good, in line with my targets, ball motion looks perfect, and I leave a corner or solid 9 or 8...I just smile. If it was 100% a perfect everything, then all ten would go down. But since I left a pin, it wasn't perfect after all. Something went wrong at the approach or going down the lane.
I remember having the front 10 and when I was up for the 11th ball, my storm natural came off my hand so clean it released an energy from my body through my arm and hand. I just felt i threw the best ball of that game!!! then the ball hit the pocket and left an 8 10 split. I was shocked!!! but, I smiled because I remember WRW leaving that same split and Patrick Allen won sitting down hahahaha.....

I've really been working on staying calm and collected while I bowl this summer, and have been encouraging my teammates to do the same.
It's made a big difference for me and most of my teammates. Not only have our averages gone up, bowling has become far more enjoyable.

From what I hear of Captain Tantrum, wouldn't you take to wandering aimlessly and talking to yourself, if you had to live with him?

I see it like golf. No matter HOW good you are, or how good your equipment is, there's a certain amount of luck or randomness present. Think about golf: even if you're the best player in the world, you can always hit it a little closer to the hole. Nobody makes a hole in one every time. Same with bowling: nobody bowls straight 300 games. Nobody can control how the ball hits the pins 60 feet away within a tenth of an inch. Can't be done. And sometimes the luck will swing a little to the negative, just like sometimes it swings towards the positive. Even total newbies with beat-up house balls sometimes roll 5 strikes in a row, and sometimes top-ten pros will miss 5 spares in a row.
So you just do your best and remember that the last shot is history, and don't worry about it.

I can't say I don't get upset. I've kicked my roller bag a couple times. I even had a doll I'd carry in my bag that I could choke when I was upset (rather than take it out on my bag) but I strangled it so often (because I bowl badly so often) that it's head fell off.
But see...I don't fit your mini rant because I practice more than anyone on this site...although NYMIKE is trying to catch me...and I take more lessons a year than most people on this site if not everyone on the site. So, given that I spend thousands of $$$...bowl about 1000 games a year (with 2/3 or more being practice)...that sorta gives me the right to be upset when things aren't working out.
A better example for ME...is Golf. I HATE GOLF. It's a stupid sport designed by people that want an excuse to walk around outside but find hiking boring (which it is). HOWEVER....I play golf 7-9 times a year...and have never taken a real lesson. So last weekend...company golf outing...I shoot a 66 on the back nine...and I'm strongly considering giving my clubs to Goodwill or something. But I have to remind myself, "If you REALLY WANT to get better at golf...you have to take an occasional lesson...and you need to golf once a week or once every couple weeks at least."

Haha Iceman.
I used to get upset over things like missed 10 pins and so forth, but I have really come to appreciate that I'm fortunate to get to roll a ball down the lane. Bowling costs too much to be miserable.

I have to control myself. I practice a lot and expect better after a poor score or set. I've been more frustrated than normal this summer. The house I bowl at is very unpredictable. The shots that I feel good with don't strike. The shots that I don't feel like I threw well end up striking. It's like reverse logic and it gets very annoying. To make things worse, it never seems like the air conditioner is on and my body temperature rises literally making me a hot head. I never kick or hit anything, but I have been known to curse (at myself or the pins) and occasionally toss my balls in my bag. Just gotta remember that it is a game after all.
