Wow, Summer leagues just ended, now Winter leagues begin!
How many are you guys bowling this year, what days, and times and cost,,,

me:
1. Wendsday, 6pm Gladstone 15.00 bucks

2. Thursday, 7pm Plattsburg wood lanes, ( just reconditioned whoooopie) really looing forward to that league, even if its 37 miles each way. 8.00 bucks

3. Friday 1pm Seniors league, Gladstone I bucks....

I might do one more,,, NOT SURE 3 will be enough!!

http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj167/diossy75/excited.gif (http://media.photobucket.com/user/diossy75/media/excited.gif.html)

But that's it for this week, unless I decide to do ONE more...

3 league, 31.00 bucks a week..... might do one more sanctioned seniors league , that would be 4 leagues, and 38.00 bucks... living in the Midwest is Cheap!!
lets see times appx 4 weeks a month.. 152 a month. Not bad, considering what many other places seem to charge.

I am EXCITED, and ready to do BATTLE!!!

Probably two leagues. One is Tuesdays at 5pm. The other is Wednesday nights at 7pm. Unknown on the costs just yet. I'm just a poor college student (at least it feels like it, I'm actually pretty well off compared to most others) so I get to take advantage of free bowling with the purchase of tuition and room/board.

I see why its so costly, your bowing with your daughters! That's pretty Cool!!! I bowl with my son this year in Plattsburg, on the wood lanes. Great bowing with your kids,,, what about the youngest daughter... (:)

I'm right there with you lyalc

2 leagues with the wife 15 x 2 = 30 x2 = 60
2 daughters in league. 13x2. = 26
Family twosome league 13 x3. = 39

60 + 26 + 39 = 125 a week
I don't even want to get into my youngest daughters tournament fees

Cool,,, 12 lane wood alley,,, ICE LIKES! I love bowing wood! It's like playing golf at St Andrew's! Any pictures of that 12 lane house?
The one I bowl at still uses the Brundswick Over head projector for scoring,,,,, NO Automatic scoring... it's GREAT!

Ah maybe the lack of automatic scoring and a little dyslexia explains some of your high scores .....575 become 755 !

Have you tried keeping score in roman numerals ? Yes we did it, back in the 80's. Give it a try!

I've never played St. Andrews but I have visited it..... I've also played wood lanes ........The grandeur, history, and significance of St. Andrews exceeds that of wood lanes by 1000% !

I remember going bowling for a few weeks in Phys Education in high school. Goal was really not to learn to bowl but the keep score manually. This was in the early 90's in Oregon.

Yeah, I will go with that. LOL.

Not sure yet...season here isn't quite over yet. Still have a few more weeks to go.

But, the plans are to do 2 leagues (as I usually do).

I think I'll stay at the AMF house for one more season (even though it's an easier pattern and is inflating my average...bad news for tournaments). I tried to get my old work team back together to join that league, but thus far minimal interest. But that's a Wednesday night league, $22 a week Vegas Sweeper.

I will also be doing my first league at a private center that is about a 1.5 minute walk from my apartment. I am moving from my home center to this new location mostly because it makes no sense to drive an extra 10-25 minutes when I can just take a 2 minute walk to and from the bowling alley. Not sure which league I'll join or how much it costs. Right now I'm leaning towards their Monday evening league...I don't think it's a sweeper league...so it likely won't be quite as expensive.

I'm debating whether or not I want to sub. If I'm bowing Monday and Wednesday...given that I live so close to the bowling alley...I could almost sub on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays...whenever I don't have anything else going on. At the same time, sometimes you need a break to re-charge...practice things, etc...never been a big fan of subbing unless it's as a 6th man.

Ice,

I'll get some photos once my league starts. I do have a video of myself there, it was the first day wearing new shoes, so it wasn't my normal form. Normally I'm lower at the foul line, but I wasn't use to the sliding with the new shoes at this point of the video being shot.

Definitely feel like I need to move west if I want to bowl in a league for a reasonable price. Been bowling in two for the past two years and will be bowling two again this year. Gone up a dollar every year and now I'll be paying a nice 26 on Tuesday and 25 on Wednesday, damn rising lineage!

billf

Our center's lineage is $10.50/bowler and has been for the last four years. 12 lane wood house, family owned.

Sunday Morning Trio with the center owner and his son $13
Monday Minors (Mens hdcp) $14
Tuesday Majors (Mens scratch) $13
Wednesday I work the women's league
Friday sub when not working the Fri Nite Fun league
Saturday Jrs. this year I will have three grandkids in this league $8 each. Center has ball raffles to cover sanction costs
Saturday Bumper club One granddaughter. She wants a ball so $12 (just to bowl is $8)

I'm not bowling either of the adult Saturday or Sunday Family leagues this year. Six leagues was too much last year with other obligations (like coaching the high school team, private lessons and my JOB)

PS Michael as I age I become more envious of your retired status.

Not sure if I'm even going to bowl this fall at our local center
as tonight was our last night on Thursday so I packed up most
all of my equipment and brought it home with me except for 4
balls I still have in the locker.

One of the main reasons I'm seriously thinking about not bowling
there any longer is the owner really, really pissed me off tonight
with what he said to my fiancee he told her she needed to get down
there and practice during the 10 minute practice as she needed it
because she wasn't that good of a bowler.

This was her first time bowling in a league and he really hurt her
feelings saying that to her as she does her best, yeah maybe she
only has a 99 average but she has been trying hard all summer.

Now she says that she never wants to bowl again because of what
he said to her if she had told me earlier instead of waiting until we
were done bowling I would probably have got thrown out because
I would have went off on him right then and there and that is why
she waited until we were done bowling.

I will be going out there tomorrow to get the rest of my equipment
out of there and I'll be telling him a thing or two and if he gets to
smart back I'll probably end up in jail before its all done and said.

Wow,, I would be UPSET TOO!! I have a short fuse anyway, but try to keep it under control! I am getting better at it as I get FRICKEN OLDER LOL

It's sad that he hurt her feelings, maybe he should apology in person to her? You might ask him to do that! I hate to see you both pull out, especially if it was fun for both of you, and you like the establishment, and people you bowled with. Maybe he was trying to be helpful? If not then I don't blame you at all for being upset, along with your honey bun!

There is a fine line between being hurtful, and helpful, some don't have the finesse, or know how in some cases.

I would tell him face to face how upset YOU, and your sweetheart are!

I would tell him he has two choices,, apologize and give her 7 free practice games, and a new Storm bowling ball, or your out of there.

I hope it all works out, especially if there are no other bowling lanes in your area.

Good luck,,, hopefully you can work it out!

Thanks MICHAEL for your support the next closest center is at least 40+
miles in any direction so looks like I'll be doing a lot of driving or just
setting around the house a lot if things don't work out.

I guess that I could always make the journey over to Plattsburg every
week to bowl as it's just several hundred miles each way. LOL!!!!! J/K ;)

I can understand her and in turn you being upset with the owner and I'm sure had I overheard the conversation I would have made some smart-*** remark.
The bad part is not hearing it, traditionally around where I bowl there is some trash talking and ribbing that goes on among most of the bowlers and it would not
be that uncommon for someone to say something like that among friends. On the other hand he could have been just being rude. You know how women take things sometimes, so without hearing it and not knowing the relationship between all of you it's hard to make a determination....
The bottom line is if it's worth quitting the place and switching to a new bowling center, I would say it's not. Maybe if you go down and calmly talk to the guy and let him know she was hurt by his remark, and let him explain ... he might offer to apologize, then decide what you're going to do. Even if he was being a crap weasel and is unapologetic, tell him if he speaks to her like that again he'll get a 10 pin up the axx and move on. IMHO it's not worth quitting the league and making it hard on yourself.
As for her, why let something a stranger/rude person ruin your day, tell them to go talk to someone who cares about what they have to say and enjoy your day.

Tony you ever been married? I doubt he's going back unless he decides he likes those lanes better than her.

There is a big difference between the ribbing that goes on between guys that have bowled together on leagues for years and what you say to a newbie (especially of the female variety) Sorry if that's sexist girls but I was just brought up that their is the way you talk to the guys and the way you talk to the gals. Now if she shows she wants to join in I'll treat her the same way as everyone else but she has to show that initiative first and probably more than once before I hand it back. Maybe he was just fooling around but having fun with someone else's struggles isn't really a good way to motivate them.

Yes, got married in 1985 , like I said I don't know the people and I would go talk to the guy but we're not going to let some ***'s comment ruin the day or cause us to quit. It's not worth it to me or her. I've been through a lot of different situations and I've learned that it's not worth it to punish them by quitting when they don't give a crap, I would just be punishing myself ....and why would I want to do that. I'd rather punish him by still going there and calling him Mr. Scum Bag every time I walk past him, trust me he will be bugged by that way more than my quitting would bug him. There is always the possibility I could trip while walking near him and spill pitcher of beer down his shirt or drop a bowling ball on his foot, accidents happen....
Just my take on it.

LOL yeah I get that and if it was a person on the league would feel different but the owner of the house. Like you said don't know the backstory was probably trying be cute and failed epically but you just don't joke with newbies like that especially the females. Luckily for me if it had been my wife she wouldn't have told me about it afterwards I'd be trying to help her find a place to hide the body.

The owner was out of line. Intentional or not. If it wasn't intentional then he over estimated his relationship with her.
pointed out that
Now for the sexist remarks...I coach a high school sophomore female that learned real quick I don't accept excuses and "I'm a girl" doesn't play with me.
Today a bunch of us practiced together. One of the guys knew to the group threw an awful ball and said, "I threw that like a girl!" Everybody just kond of gasped because bowling so many tournaments against males she hears girl comments all the time. She buried her shot, looked at him "You wish you could throw it like this girl" then pointed out that she is 5' 1" tall, 108 lbs and while he is obviously bigger she throws it much harder, with twice the revs. He ended up apologizing. She was fired up and I loved every second of it.

Wednesday & Thursdays $18 & $20. I condisdered a 3rd league, but I will be on several different USTA tennis teams during the bowling season. I really need to pick tennis or bowling. If I quit tennis I would put on 20 lbs, so that won't work, and I want to stick with bowling because I figure I can do that longer, as I age.

I just had an interesting phone call about bowling.

In the Friday Laughlin league, 2 seasons ago, I showed up at the meeting just looking to be placed somewhere.

They put 4 individuals together, and we ended up winning the league.

I didn't start the league end next season, but subbed a number of times, then near the end, a team has a person who had to drop out, so they asked if I could take over.

They were in first place by 2 or 3 games, and in the final 5 weeks, we were able to hold on, and even extended the lead.

So this year, again I wasn't planning on bowling, but I got a phone call from another guy in the league asking if I could join his team.

When I mentioned that $20/week, and 35 weeks was a bit more of a commitment than I was willing to make.

So he responded with, he will pay ALL of the league fees, as long as I bowl on his team.

I don't know what the guy does for a living, but we held our league banquet at his house the last couple of years... (nice BIG house, great view) so he's not hurting for $$

Some offers are too good to pass on.

Who is he and get me his number. I swore never to do a Laughlin league again (Laughlin SUCKS...it's 108 degree pile of dirty sand), and it would mean transversing the Green River Pass since it's probably in Riverside County (<---Orange County's trailer park for those outside of CA)....but if he's willing to pay YOU $20/week to be on his team...I could get him to pay ME at least $60!! :p

I mean, how many ABHMAVZSCI championships do YOU have?

One of my friends/coworkers lives in Corona and he'll be the first to correct the above statement and amend it to say:

I guess Orange County has had to jack up property taxes sky high to make up for having filed for bankruptcy.

I guess Orange County has had to jack up property taxes sky high to make up for having filed for bankruptcy.

I'm just saying....I paid $1875/month for a 2-bedroom to live on the Orange County side of Green River Pass. My friend bought a house in Corona that is IMMENSELY large...like 3 bedrooms, 2 floors, 2-3 bath, AND a friggin hot tub and he paid just over $600,000. I looked for a tiny house around me...something 2 bedroom-ish with a pool and I think the lowest I found was $470,000 for 1/3 the size and lets just say it needed significant work. A comparable house to his...ran at LEAST $900k. So it's property value first...I'm sure the taxes are just a second kick in gonards.

I can't see how EVERY county in California doesn't go bankrupt. They each have about 80% more employees than most counties throughout the country...so I can't see how payroll alone doesn't sink the lot of em.

only one league (limited availability )

Tuesday night Trio mixed with my son and daughter in law 12.00 a week 16 weeks

It's a fun league. We have not felt qualified to be in the money leagues our combined handicap is 200 but after Monday night we are joining one next year. I notice one of the teams was elderly women and the 4 of them had a combined handicap of 500! so I don't feel all that bad anymore. Besides I'm there to have fun anyway.

Anaheim is a bit of a drive, I'm in St George Utah, thanks for the offer. My one league started 9/3, mixed 4s, 3 games, $10 a week. I am back to bowling after a 20+ year absence. After 3 weeks I'm up to a 180 average, using a Blue Hammer. Bought a DV8 Ruckus Schizo, arrives next week, should be fun.

Yeah...that would be a drive.

After 2 weeks...
Monday fun league I'm averaging about 173-174...and thanks to a ton of handicap from our one female bowler...we're 8-0 and last I checked tied for 1st. Not a big league...not too serious...more for fun and to get used to the conditions in that house which is where I'm likely to bowl exclusively starting next season. This is my first league in that center.

Wednesday (more serious) League: I'm averaging like 197 after two games...we're 4-4...but we played two good teams out of the gate. This team is where I got drafted to try and create a "super team"...but other teams did the same thing so there's 3-9 teams that are pretty stacked while narrowly staying under the 950 cap.

But the conditions are similar...yet different. The Wednesday shot is easier...1-2 boards miss to the left and the heavy oil in the middle will hold. The right has a lot of dry...so as long as you don't miss more than 3 boards you'll probably still hit the pocket well. On Mondays...ughhh...not as much miss room in the middle. The pattern seems a little shorter...so a miss in the middle holds but then jerks through the head at the end of the pattern. And 2 or more boards missing right and you might not it back...or will at best hit light.

The Wednesday league went from a non-serious 18-team vegas league to a 30-team more serious league due to the closure of a popular center recently. So now I'm back to having one smaller league and one huge league.

Going from a Blue Hammer to the Schinzo? I'm not sure that fun is the right word. Good Luck.

The house here has med/dry lanes, from what I've observed the Ruckus Schizo should be good for hitting hard and driving through the deck. I'm asking the PSO to drill it for a big curve, I'm a stroker, 15 mph at the fronts.

If you've got much hand that ball has plenty of hook. It likes to get deep and roar back. I wouldn't really suggest a high end asymmetrical ball for your first reactive ball but sounds like you have the right attitude with it. Just don't be surprised if you find you need to buy something a little tamer pretty quickly.

I was 4 weeks late getting into a league but surprising enough they had 2 openings and I snared one. Just a fun league and it's been 3 years since I have bowled last. My Storm Eraser Boost was very hard to control for the first 2 games. I had to tighten the hook by releasing later and adding more power and moving as far left as possible. I'll get it back soon.

Just bought a used Ebonite Pivot Point bowling ball on Ebay for $38.97. Delivered today and I was amazed at the almost new condition of the ball. It has " Folds of Honor" stamped on it ( a foundation that provides educational scholarships to the families of our military servicemen and servicewomen who have been disabled or killed on active duty). I can't wait to get it drilled and start using it. I understand the ball has a continuous curve to it so I have to research drilling specs.
Pivot Point is designed for lanes that are cleaner. This ball is cleaner, is strong in the mid lane, and has the strength and power to continue through the pin deck. We will see...
