Guess I'll throw in as one of the new guys here. Pretty decent night tonight. 222-201-213=636. Disappointed with 6 opens, though. Not bad for heaving a nearly 10-year old Icon 300!

Not bad at all, I have found much to my chagrin that the newer balls are not magical, even though people will have you believe it
2 years ago I was throwing an old Brunswick fury pearl , since then I got 2 new 15lb balls Rhino gold vintage and hyper cell skid , threw those a year and went to 14lb won a Diva divine here , got an dv8 outcast and a storm hy-road and my average is still about the same ....

I had an original Gold Rhino Pro. One of the best balls I ever had!

Weird night tonight. 240-173-204/617. Really had a great read in the first game. Started the second game with a 7-9-10 split. I've never seen that before! Downhill after that. Spent the whole game kicking the ball around in the hopes I'd find my line again. Took me into the third game to get my line back. Will be getting a Storm IQ Nano from a teammate next week. I think the Icon has seen better days. Just doesn't pack the punch it used to.

I switched from 15 lb and gave the gold rhino pro to a teammate, I had some good games with it but never felt like I was totally in control of it (289), he was having trouble with the skid/flip reaction and we changed the surface to 2000, he's had 4 600 series in a row with it since.
I never had an original gold rhino but did have an original LT-48 !

Still sounds like a pretty good night, the IQ should be a nice ball !

I also did the rotator cuff a few years back and bowled lefty for a year and a half, plus had a couple of other surgeries on my right arm, hence the going to a 14lb ball.

I wish I could have done that, but I'm utterly useless left handed. Don't get me wrong, if they lopped off my right arm, I'd be switching!

Another tough night, but scored well. 216-236-224/676. Lanes 3/4 at Classic are a nightmare. 10 board difference between the two. Last game had 5 straight 9 counts. 3 were 10's (wiffed one). Had to run 5 off the sheet to finish decent. Have a IQ Tour Nano sitting in a box that I think would've have helped tonight.

Nice shooting Timmy, especially with each lane playing so differently!

It actually made it kind of fun. Both lanes started identical, but 3 moved in a hurry. I think I had already moved over 5 boards by the end of the first game, just trying to keep up. Lane 4 NEVER moved! I literally threw the same shot all night. It's not easy trying to remember what spot to stand on every time! We had a huge storm move through just before bowling started, so it was super humid in the house, which I think played into what was an odd night.

24-November. Not one of my better nights. 166/225/177--568. First game was a s**tshow. Started off with 3 opens (washout and two blown ten pins), then ran 4 straight, and then the ten pins came back. 4 in total the first game, and missed them all. Could never find a groove. Completely off balance. Second game better, but fell right back into it for the third. This thing with ten pins is really starting to p**s me off. I never used to miss them, and now I can't make them to save my life. 9 ten pins tonight, and I made 2. Picking up new ball on Friday. I wanted to send the Icon out on a better note than this.

Alright, back a little bit. 223-191-201/615. Average stays at 202. I have now gone 6 weeks without a clean game. On the up side, not one ten pin tonight, which I chalk up to the new IQ Nano. However, the ball made me pay for a couple of errant shots with three lovely washouts, a 4-6-7-10, an I did whiff a 4-8. I don't have an answer for my inconsistency with spares lately. I should have taken a direct line at the 4-8, but for some reason I thought the ball would track across. We were astonished tonight by the transition. The lanes were pretty steady until about the 3rd frame of game three, and then no one could keep up with how fast they transitioned after that. The smallest move I saw anyone make was about 4-5 boards to the left. Caught everyone way off guard.

Nice night.

First series--242/228/200=670. Weird transition on right lane kept carry down for everyone in the third game.

Second series (make up bowling)--233/213/235=681. Manager told me I couldn't do make-up bowling on the same pair I bowled on earlier. He didn't seem to have an issue with this a bunch of weeks back. Either way, turned out to my advantage.

This is now series number 7 and 8 in a row without a clean game. Ran 6 strikes in a row 4 times tonight.

The IQ Nano left me my first 10 pin tonight, and I actually made it! In 9 games bowled with this little beast, I have seen one 10 pin. Mind boggling how this thing hits.

You know how you have one of those nights that reminds you you're just not as good as you think? Yep.

178/209/242--629, and every freakin' bit of it was a battle. First game never got the wheels put on. I had to run 5 in a row just to hit 178. Game two the transition started, and I misread it. Another 4 in a row to close it. Last game was finally it, and the first clean game I've thrown in 8 weeks! I'm hoping my little 10 pin bugaboo is over. I only left two tonight, and made them both. Average is now at 206. Closing in on what I expect.

Tough night again. Too many damn splits, including a horrific pocket 7-10 (the rest were wholeheartedly deserved). Two single pin misses (a 2 and a 10). First night I haven't made average in 4 or 5 weeks. 203/195/214=612. 13-14 at Classic are the worst in the house, and that's coming from the owner!

Timmyb
12-30-2015, 12:26 AM
Did better than I would have figured. 201/238/233=672. After spending over two hours trying to clear the white death from my driveway, I could feel everything starting to tighten up a few hours before start. Felt pretty good until the last 6 frames, and it really started to grind on me. First game had three opens (2-4-8-10, 2-4-8-10, whiffed a 10 pin). Could have been worse, as I picked up a 6-7-10. Clean second game. Game three could have been clean, but completely whiffed a 7 pin. Going to give the Nano it's first re-surface, and see if it behaves better in the first game.

Went open bowling with my brother today (Castle Lanes in Racine). Desk jockey lied and said the lanes had been oiled. NOT! Took a game and a half to figure out what to do, as everything in my bag moved the instant it hit the lane. Finally moved all the way over to first arrow left, and threw over just right of center arrow. 147/182/224--553.

The kicker to all of this is that for the first time in probably over 25 years, I threw the last two games without a wrist brace on. No drop in speed, although it looked like my revs suffered a little bit, maybe 25 revs. Most importantly, NO PAIN! I am going to try this next Tuesday in league. I would assume as my wrist gets a little strength back, my revs will come back up. I'm not sure why there was no pain, though, because that was the reason I started wearing one years ago. We'll see.

No score tonight. Went to throw my second ball, and something popped in my right hip, and I literally fell on the approach. Not really sure what happened, but it hurt like hell. This getting old s**t is not pretty.....

Well, actually there is a score. They took my average, minus 20 pins, so 186 x 3 = 558. Gonna sit for a few days, and pray to God this isn't anything serious.

Oh, it's that bad, but not the hip. What I wasn't paying attention to is that when I went down, I must have turned my ankle. According to the the doctor, I now have a full-blown high ankle sprain. Always heard about that watching football, but until you have one, you have no idea how painful it is. Right now, they're putting me out for 2-3 weeks. As far as the wrist goes, I put it back on after 2 or 3 shots. could feel a little tugging, so figured I'd be proactive about it. Hey, at least that's still okay!

I'm back! Went out to give the ankle a test. First shot hurt like hell, but calmed down quickly. After that, it was just adjusting to a different house, coupled with slicing open the side of my ring finger yesterday. Threw the new ball for three frames, but it definitely didn't fit the conditions. Ran it out the end with the IQ, five in a row. A better than expected 166 game, and that was with 4 opens (2 tens, a 2-4-10. and a 2-8-10).

It is a Hook. Tried it tonight in practice, but you could see it burning up quickly. Will go to a polished surface. It should fall nicely between my Nano and my Jab.

Finally back! Took my hip and ankle on it's maiden voyage tonight. No problems with either. Major problems with my timing, which I guess I should've expected after missing two weeks. 179/194/215--588. would've liked better, but could've been worse. The Nano now has a polished surface, and hits like a truck. Was starting to get away from me in the third game, so moved in and played the oil. One shot left a ringing 9 pin that could be heard across town. If I got one out, though, there was hell to pay. A week off should do my ankle well. Still a little wobbly.

Second week after the sprain. Hurt more this week. Dunno why.

167/209/232=608

First game was a nightmare. The shot that everyone had in practice was gone by the start of bowling. Everyone had problems. I couldn't find a line until the 8th, and by then it was time to start moving back, because the backend came back in a hurry. I was not by far the worst bowler in the first game. After that, smoothed out and started smashing them. Still making just too damn many mistakes. Could've had 6 straight in the second game, but let the 4th shot come off my hand and into the ditch. If I had just thrown the first ball as well as the spare shot (crushed it), who knows where that game would've gone. Last game was pretty good, but still had one open. I can't wait until Saturday to start working on a few things.

202/184/220--606. Seemed to be mired in the low 6's. Didn't help that the brain surgeon kid effed up oiling the lanes again. This time, he says he couldn't find the cleaner concentrate to mix up for the oiler, so he just put water in. Yeah, you guessed it. Threw the first shot between 1-2 arrow, and it stayed there. Basically had to aim the ball into the pocket. Started to come back in the third game, but still couldn't get much finish. Highest series I saw bowled all night was a 662. We've been told we most likely won't see this kid back. This was strike three.

Cannot wait to get the Fight out next week. There was one guy bowling with one tonight, and he said even with the crap lane conditions, he liked the finish!

Open bowling today to try out the new Storm Fight. 180/255/237--672. The ball didn't fit the conditions (too oily), but I stuck with it just to see what it would do. Pretty sure the scores back up that decision!

Maybe having some extra oil isn't the worst thing when breaking in a new ball.

I'm not a proponent of ball switcheroo in the first place, so I might be a little better at adapting. I would've been better off with the Nano, but I wanted to see what it would do.

Eesh, rough night. 222/153/221--596. Changed our oil pattern again. I usually start with the Nano, but it read too damn fast, so out came the Fight. Was hitting like a truck, but it burned out early in the second game, and I didn't catch it. I actually balled back up to the Nano, moved 5 left, and let 'er rip. Had a great last game going, and blew it in the tenth getting one out too far. Seven opens during the night has got to end. I used to be a better spare shooter than this.

Decent night. 201/223/208--632. Lanes 3-4 did not behave as expected tonight. Ran with the Nano until 2 frame of last game, then switched to the Fight. Had a few issues with hitting my mark with the Fight, but if I did, look out. Every high flush drove 10 straight back. The ball is simply a truck. Better news, the re-drill of both balls netted NO tearing of my finger. Need a little bit more bevel on the thumb hole, but that's an easy fix.

Craptacular night. 197/243/135 (yep, I said it)=575. First game wasn't terrible, but missed two spares and couldn't string. Second game was great, but a big split right in the middle did me in. Last game was a nightmare. Could not keep the ball on the right side of the lane, and I didn't have the Jab with. Once again, this house can't do the basics to keep a house shot maintained. If the temp outside spikes to 70° all day, you might want to turn the air on. The oil vaporized in the last game. Three people on my pair gave up and started throwing their spare balls. My 135 game was not at all the lowest game out there. It's sad, because this is the house I spent much of my adult life bowling at. Let's face it, it's a house shot league, and people expect consistency. I will fully admit to shi**ing the bed in the last game. It would still be nice to know what you're walking into week to week. If you want it to be a challenge league, then call it that.

219/141/247--607. Had four pocket 7-10 splits in the second game, and on top of that, missed 2 easy spares. Started with the Fight, and should have balled up 2 frames into the second game. I will not even post the PinPal stats.

Oh, I'm pretty sure it's me. I just couldn't seem to ring the bell last night. I was definitely there, because only one shot during the night didn't find the 1-3. Lots of weird carry, a TON of seven pins (light hits), a pocket 7-10, a slightly high-but-coulda-carried 4-9, and two ringing 9's that could be heard at the high school 4 blocks away. Like I said, the last game I was perfect on the right lane, but could not get carry on the left. Lots of guys in the house saying the pins are old and dead. Dunno about that. If you hit 'em, you should git 'em.

P.S. The Nano has a fresh polish on it, and the Fight has about 7 or 8 games.

Aaaaaaarrrrgggggg! 174/243/186 - 603. All IQ Nano. No effing consistency whatsoever. At least the second game was clean. Was damn near dead on with the left lane. did not throw a bad ball on it until 10th frame third game, and left the church. I was pissed! At this point I think I'm just done with league for the year. Update to the complete revamp of my equipment. Had the IQ Nano re-drilled by Dwight Albrecht at the New Berlin Bowling Center. My span was shorten from the previous drilling by a full 1/4", with some massive changes to pitches. Also got rid of the finger inserts. Pick the ball up today and threw one game. Took me all of one frame to get used to the new fit. Threw a 185 just screwing around. Very comfortable, and hit every mark I tried to hit. Hope this leads to a great next year!

First full blown practice since have the Nano re-drilled. 198-193-193/584, Ball felt good, but still a little pain in my fingers. Starting to lean towards my age being the main culprit now. Screwed around trying to use arrows instead of dots, with mixed results. I was pretty consistent with hitting the arrow, but just felt way off balance. I also noticed that I am now stopping well over 2' before the foul line, so I moved up a foot. That is going to take some getting used to! I am considering buying a glove, because my damn hands are so dry I can feel anything that's not in a hole sliding around on the ball. I'm also thinking this could take some of the load off my fingers as well. Opinions?

Second practice session. 229/216/225--670. No spot bowling today, used only arrows. Starting to get more comfortable with this. Still a little off balance on a few shots, but pulled it in at release. Tried the Storm glove today. Gave me a little relief with finger pain, but it's still there. Noticed better lift and turn with the glove as well. Still managed to have one open each game, which is getting irritating.

Did you have oval inserts in the Nano previously? What do you have for the fight?

I had a "wedge" style insert, and then went to a "power oval". Both tore up my middle finger. As of tonight, all my equipment is just drilled, no inserts. I shot the Fight and the Tank tonight for one game just to check fit. Felt good, but was on a fresh THS, so not much finish on the Fight. The Tank is going to make a damn fine spare/dry lane ball!

Where are you playing the fight. I've found that on fresh THS at Castle in Racine I've been able to play anywhere 1st to 3rd arrow depending on speed

I shot three on Sunday at Classic Oak Creek. It was a burned up shot from Saturday night, but not completely gone, so the Fight did pretty well compared to the Nano. I've used both at Castle, but the lanes were really bad, so I was waaaaay left and just heaving either ball to not cross over. The Lanes on 20 had a pretty good Saturday shot after juniors, and I was able to stand second all day with the Fight. During the summer it's a crap shoot around here to find anything with a decent shot. Classic Oak Creek has been pretty consistent.

Been a few weeks, so I got in some practice today. 181/187/218 = 586. Still working on my move from dots to arrows. Tried to incorporate a little higher backswing today, with mixed results. Did good with it for the most part, but got way off balance a couple of time. Hit my marks today way better than at any time since the switch. lanes were good, but the approaches were horrid. I now need to figure out how to get the glitter, and whatever other crap was out there, off the bottom of my shoes. Some of it is literally embedded in my slide heel. Will not be bowling at this house again, if they can't do some basic cleaning in the morning.

Sunday practice. 179/246/177 = 602. Not sure where that second game came from, because I couldn't find my a** with both hands the other two games. Lanes almost behaved like a sport shot. miss a little one way or the other, and it was not going to find the pocket.

Saturday open bowl. 177/164/223=564. I have official given up on the idea of switching from dots to arrows. 40+ years of doing it the same way is too hard to break. It seemed like I was getting somewhere, but the past two outings has had me shotgun bowling. I find myself looking off at the last second at times, and that leads to some pretty errant shots. I tried to stick with it the first two games, but you can see what happened when I switched back in the third game. I will just work on my consistency from here on out. I've noticed a few issues with my footwork that need addressing right away.

Sunday open bowl. 192/173/206 = 571. Not one of my stellar days. 8 opens all day. The 206 game had 8 strikes, so that'll tell you how important picking up your spares is. Trying opening up my hand a bit more. I've always tucked my pinky in, but today left it out. Visible change in revs and power through the pocket. This might be a keeper!
