I am a new bowler and my wife talked me into joining a mixed couples "fun" league.
We only bowl every other Saturday and as I stated it is supposed to be a fun league.
Our team is tied for 1st place due to the fact that my wife and her brother are good bowlers. Myself, I only have a 122 average and my sister-in-law has a 109 average. but even if my sister-in-law or I do bad, our spouses do not get mad at us. We are trying and learning and this is a fun league.
I do have to say though I have noticed that a lot of these bowlers seem to take this way too serious.
For instance, last night we had the other team that is tied with us bowling a couple lanes down and the husbands where actually yelling at their wives because the wives where not bowling too well.
That did not sit too well with me so it was that much sweeter that we took 3 out of 4 games and their team dropped 3 out of 4.
We are supposed to be having a good time!!
Well the reason I wanted to thank BowlingBoards.com was that up until 3 weeks ago my average was 112.
Bowled 3 good games 2 weeks ago and my average increased 10 pins from 112 to a 122.
I watched a couple videos on here and found out I was standing all wrong, aiming for the wrong arrows and last night I bowled my best 3 games ever, a 157, 165 and a 142.
I even got my first turkey!!!
I figure if I try to fix 1 thing at a time maybe I can get a little better.
2 weeks ago I fixed what dots I stand on and which arrow to aim for and how to adjust for spares. This week I realized that when I release I was almost 2 feet back from the foul line, I adjusted so I am now only about 4-6 inches from foul line. I figure why throw the ball further than I have too.
I do throw an arrow straight ball and maybe sometime in the future I would like to learn how to throw a hook but I do not want to try to change too much all at once.
