I am more a tweener with a slower ball speed of around 15mph. I was throwing 15 lbs considering going down to 14lbs (because I have some mild back issues now. I bowled in lots of tournaments and sport shots leagues.
Balls I owned 4 years ago:
Storm fast: didnt like
Storm furious: loved it
Virtual energy. Smooth motion but to violent on the back end.
Rotogrip mutant cell and defiant loved both of these
C system 2.0 yellow and blue. Used this on longer oil patterns.
Reign of fire: didnt like
Shooting star: loved Rising star: hated
Owned a few columbia balls: did not like any =(
There are more balls I owned by but my opinion is in the middle: Yes I went through alot of equipment in a 2 year span.
I guess I am looking for some good solid bowling balls. Never was a fan of pearl. Normally Id break the surface of dull bowling balls with just a little polish.
I want to stick with rotogrip for the most part, but I am not scared to venture into hammer/dv8. I was more end over end like Chris Barnes with my track near my thumb.
Anyone recommendations for getting started back would be great! Got my eye on an eternal cell since its a solid that they polished.

Take a look at the Radical Ridiculous. If you liked the Furious, I think you'll love it.

If you want to stay Roto I would go Eternal Cell (you can take the polish off if you don't like it) and Critical. Fill in from there after seeing what you need. The Radical Ridiculous as Rob suggested is a great ball as are any of the Masterminds or Nirvana series from Brunswick if your feeling adventurous. I'm fond of the Arson and Black Widow lines from Hammer right now too. It's a good time to be a bowler ball wise more good balls than you can shake a stick at.

Welcome back to the game!
My advice would be to pick a solid, medium-oil mid-price ball to get used to things again.
Check out the Storm Sky Rocket (or original Rocket), as well as the Hammer Arson line.

I have not had any new equipment in about a year or so. But i did do a demo day with some of the newer storm and roto balls. With you thinking about going to 14lb get on Bowlingball.com and see what they have in close out 14 if you don't like the 14lb equipment you at least saved money. You might see if you can find a disturbed from Roto grip its versatile solid.

i just got back in the game this season with 2 years off myself. I had a Haywire, Cyclone Gamebreaker (limited release) and most recently a Brunswick vintage danger zone, that im in love with and vouch for the ball highly, punched up. The Haywire ,which is a great ball for some sport shots, gets through the fronts and is violent on the backend and because of the colors its a good way to see when the ball begins to turn over for better lane reading. The Cyclone gamebreaker i have drilled pin down with its oob of 2000 grit and is great on the break down. It has a very smooth motion and gives great length on the medium-dry conditions. The vintage danger zone....ohhhh mann. best ball i think iv'e ever owned. Drilled pin up oob 500 Siaair Micro Pad, Royal Compound, fancy talk but dull like you like, skid flip motion with ridiculous drive through the rack. Great on the fresh and breakdown as long as you can adjust properly. I have to say with these 3 balls i'll be set for a while because they all compliment each other well.

I am leaning towards a eternal cell + haywire or critical + haywire but after talking to my local drillers the sports shot back end is pretty violent. Now I am leaning towards 1. critical/eternal call/haywire and compliment one of those 3 with a hectic.

I found a thug unruly for 79.99 older ball but for high performance seems like good deal. Will cost me around 140-150ish after its drilled. I was wondering if you had any opinions on this balls. Seems like a good solid ball. I wonder How it compares to new equipment since its a year old?

Storm Fight. Late breaking ball that has no conscience.
