Are there any bowlers on here from Iowa? I'm moving from Ohio to Iowa and have just started back into bowling.

I think Aslan is moving to Iowa soon. He is in high regard on this board. Your gain and the great state of Iowa, should honor him on his day of "deliverence" from the state of California.

I don't live in Iowa now but I used to from 1960 through 1975 there
was some good centers back then but I'm not sure how good they
would be today.

I'm planning a vacation to go back up there in July so guess I'll have
to load up the equipment and take it with me to see how the centers
are nowadays.

southpaw93 what part of Iowa are you moving to? I used to live over
on the east side of the state over in Davenport.

Yes, I am looking at moving to the Des Moines area sometime between June 2016 and ???. It's just a matter of how long it takes to find a suitable non-bowling position. Once there...I will have to try and find a bowling center....which will not be as easy as California...where the nearest bowling center is a 1.5 minute walk from my apartment and there are at least 7 other centers < 25 minute drive away.

When I get there...we can meet up and you can bask in my brilliance.

I have heard first hand from some USBC Nationals teammates that the lanes in Iowa are as easy as they are in Las Vegas. Aslan will become a star bowler, finally, in the state of Iowa.

Everybody thinks their lanes are really hard and other centers/states are really easy.

Since how "easy" or "hard" conditions are depend greatly on how a person throws the ball (speed, rev rate, etc...)...it's irrelevant.

I've bowled in over 25 different centers. Las Vegas isn't "easy". Red Rock was easier for me than the other places in Vegas...but I have a feeling we could find plenty of bowlers in Vegas that bowl better in another house than they do at Red Rock. It's hard to truly judge without bowling in a place regularly. I used to tease Iceman all the time that Missouri lanes must be really easy or tilted or something...because on paper in Missouri he rolls multiple 300-games...yet in Vegas he seemed very "mortal". But I can't say for sure until I bowl there.

I hope Iowa isn't too easy. Bowling at an 'easy' center the last two seasons has single-handedly destroyed my ability to be competitive in tournaments. I'm a 170-180 bowler carrying a 190 average...soon to carry a 192 average. I have to bowl about 12-13 pins higher than my average just to break even. And now I gotta keep that dang average for 3 years. By the time it goes away...I might actually be a 190-192 average bowler.

You forgot choice 7; throw bowling balls in dumpster and take up a hobby that you (me) might be able to excel at...such as coloring book art using Crayola crayons.

I don't what kind of alternate universe I have been transported to, first people are taking Vacations to Iowa next people are moving from sunny California to live in Iowa....just saying seems slightly misguided at best !
Don't worry that the lanes are "easy" in the midwest, I hear the most popular house pattern in Iowa is something called the "Birthday party bumper pattern"
I hear they are considering it for tournament use in the near future .....
