At MOTIV, we are always focused on our customers and working hard to give bowlers the opportunity to reach their full potential on the lanes. As you are no doubt aware, the USBC made a ruling on March 15, 2016 to immediately revoke the approval previously granted to the Motiv Jackal Carnage and original Jackal balls, stating they determined the balls do not comply with current USBC specifications and requirements. We are in the process of requesting more information from the USBC and wanting to ask them many questions so that we can better understand the details behind their decision and determine the next steps to address this situation.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and trouble that this situation has caused so many of you, our loyal and valued customers, and we want you to know that we are working diligently around the clock to arrive at a fair and reasonable resolution. We sincerely appreciate the huge outpouring of support for Motiv and your belief in us.

We understand that people want answers and action now, and please understand that it is our objective to get this situation addressed as soon as possible. We believe that both balls should be reinstated on the USBC Approved Ball List, and we are reaching out to the USBC to have meaningful, effective dialogue to resolve this matter together in a manner that is best for all those affected by the USBC's decision and ruling, especially you the bowlers, pro shops, bowling alleys, and enthusiasts. Therefore, we ask for your patience as we continue to work toward this goal.

Understandably, pro shops and bowlers are asking for specific answers about a ball replacement process. Please understand that we cannot provide those details yet as we hope to communicate directly with the USBC as well as finish reviewing each country's legislation and consider the proper procedure for each. Once we have further information and details, which we expect very soon, we will let everyone know and provide you with details on how to proceed.

In the meantime, please hold onto your Jackal and/or Jackal Carnage bowling ball. Do not destroy, discard, or damage the ball in any way.

Thank you very much for your support, patience, and understanding during this very difficult time.

Motiv: "We believe that both balls should be reinstated on the USBC Approved Ball List"

Looks like Motiv is trying to fight the decision! and find out who started this.

Or delay customer complaints while they try to work out a deal with USBC that costs them less than a recall would.

Wow. Surprised they are attempting to appeal vs. making it right with the customers and then appeal the decision.

I am sure that if they took care of the customer first, they would make themselves look A LOT better than they are now delaying the buy-back or replacement of balls for people that have a hard time spending $200.00 on a rock.

I would surely be ticked off at the company for the stance they are taking now if I had owned either of the balls that are now not allowed for competitive use.

This is a really sad thread. If you put yourself in the situation of the people of Motiv, you can easily understand that they are facing the possible extinction of their company. I know personally the CEO of Motiv and have NO DOUBT whatsoever, that the illegal balls were in any way intentional. Take this to the bank! I have no doubt that Motiv will make this right for their customers, unlike those detractors who are looking to fry any manufacturer who makes a mistake.

Here is a bet which is analogous to Motiv claiming a ball at 0.060 differential.

I bet you can't for a full season average 200, without EVER shooting a game above 200.

Thats what Motiv tried to do, failed, and got caught.

As for making things right for their customers, what makes you think the company Motiv is any different than say an insurance company, who when facing extinction because of a hurricane, tornado, etc. hand out a bunch of bonuses to management, then files for bankruptcy leaving their creditors with pennies on the dollar?

I agree Rob. I actually found it 'interesting' when they released that first press release (for many reasons, see the other thread) that they seemed to know it would be around 1 million to fix the problem (I guessed $750,000)...and they didn't seem "phased" by that. A smaller bowling ball company...I gotta think a million dollars is a HUGE deal! Maybe not. Maybe they make 11 million in profit a year....I don't know. It's not a publically traded company and it's in an industry that is not watched that closely from a financials standpoint.

I'm 80% certain you're right (about them knowing). But I want to be 99% certain before I throw them a sympathy party. And the simple fact remains....they never said they didn't know....and they never said what they plan to do to fix it going forward. Add those two things together...and you can easily come to the conclusion that they knew...and there's nothing to fix (in terms of quality control/manufacturing) because it was intentional. I have no beef with Motiv. I respect their company and their success, especially being originally from Michigan. The Wilburs seem like great guys and I'm sure their employees would echo that. But if you find out they knew, and it was intentional...nice guys or not...ya gotta pay the fiddler. 1 million now or 3 million later.

I also agree with Mike's interpretation of the scenario. I'm 80% sure that's exactly what happened. I think they flew too close to the sun and got burned. I'm almost certain they figured the USBC wouldn't bother checking. The question is, was the original batch they sent for USBC testing different than what they started manufacturing after the fact? In other words, did they make a ball with a 0.058 average differential....then post USBC certification...bump it to 0.061 average differential? I don't think they did...I think maybe manufacturing specs just got out of whack or something and it led to future batches inching up towards non-compliance...but we don't know that.
