New member looking for help picking a new ball

Right now I am averaging 177 with a columbia 300 freeze hybrid. It is a blue and orange ball. I like this ball for drier lane conditions but it is not a great ball when the oil is heavy. I am trying to find a new ball that will perform better on heavy oil conditions so that way I can have a choice of balls depending on lane condition. The ball is drilled so the pin is about a 1/2 inch right of my ring finger. What type of coverstock, rg, and diff should I be looking for. Does anybody know the name of any balls that might work for what I am looking for in a new ball. Thank you for any information anyone may be able to provide me with.

First off I wouldn't automatically head for a heavy oil ball. Unless your bowling a PBA league or Tournaments most leagues don't put out a heavy oil condition. I would suggest looking at something in the more medium category first. Hopefully you have a good proshop in your area who can watch you bowl and make good recommendations but here are a few I would consider. If you want to stick with Colombia I would go with the Delirium Shock or the Severe Delirium the shock will be longer and snap more where the Shock will be earlier and handle a little more oil than Shock both balls will handle more oil than the Freeze.

Brunswick mastermind Einstein or Braniac are good.
Storm Rocket.
Hammer Arson High Flare Pearl or Solid
Radical Rave or Ridiculous
Rotogrip Hywire or Haywire

Any of these would be a good step up from your freeze. Generally the polished balls will handle less oil and be more snappy on the back. The more surface the more even rolling and will handle additional oil. Hope this helps.

Love the Haywire or even Critical. Dull balls so good with the oil.

If you like your Columbia and want to stay with that brand they also carry balls to fit your need.

I agree with Amyers. The Columbia Freeze is a very non-aggressive ball. Just because it works well on drier lane conditions doesn't mean that you need to jump all the way to a heavy oil ball. Something in the middle would probably suit you just fine, and it wouldn't be so different that you couldn't handle the change. While everyone is very well-meaning with their recommendations, I would strongly recommend going to the PSO at the center where you bowl and have him/her watch you bowl and make a recommendation based on your style and the lane conditions where you bowl.
