I recently picked up a Swerve FX after needing something to go a little longer down the lane than my Paradox. The pro shop recommended I try the drilling of pin under the ring finger and after throwing it around 10 games it wasnt moving at all. I took it to a different pro shop 5 minutes away and had it redrilled so that the pin is above and to the right of the ring finger. Boy did that make a difference. I now have a ball that will snap a little at the end but definitely longer than my Paradox.
I have thrown 3 279s in the last week (2 in League). Last night's I had the front 9 then tugged it leaving a 6 pin on my Birthday. Would have been nice to have a 300 on that day. I am 2 weeks into my summer league with a 243.5 average so far. I ended last season with a 219 average and have a 220 average in my Thursday night league.
1st week score - 724 (Can't remember the individual games)
2nd week score - 279, 215, 242 = 736
Cant wait to see if I can keep this average up through the 12 week summer league.

Thank you guys! Its kind of unreal at the moment. Usually it takes me some weeks to really settle into the ball but this one has been awesome after the redrill. In our Thursday Mens league Tom Daugherty has a 247 average so gives me something to look up to haha

Well it is our last 4 weeks of Thursday Mens league. Shot a 213-266-195 for a 674. The first game I ended up leaving a stone 10 in the 10th to lose by 4 pins. I left two 10 pins and two 9 pins that game. The second game I found my line and killed the pocket for a 266 but lost to a 279. The third game I missed a 9 pin in the 5th then made an adjustment about 3 frames too late. Lost all 4 points to a 760 series but it felt like a good night overall. Have a tournament coming up on the 22nd so practice practice until then.

Last night was the 3rd week of our summer mixed league. I shot a 191 the first game. The lanes were absolutely flooded to start the night. I had to move 8 boards right of where I normally start. I also almost guttered after a baby started screaming in my approach in the 5th frame from a lane over but that really shouldn't have bothered me. The second game I shot a 204 with two missed 10 pins. The third game I shot a 277 after a pocket 7-10 then 10 strikes then a pocket 8 pin to end the night. I probably would have cried if that 8 pin was there for a 300 haha. Overall I saved the series with the last game to shoot a 672. My average went down to a 237 from 243. Looking forward to Thursday Mens league.
1st week score - 724 (Can't remember the individual games)
2nd week score - 279, 215, 242 = 736
3rd week score - 191, 204, 277 = 672

Here are some updates since last week.
Thursday night Mens league - 192, 217, 196. The shot was there but I just could not get carry all night. I had three pocket 7 pins, four pocket 10s, one 8 pin, and two 9 pins. Throw in some splits and you get the 605. The guy I bowled shot a 776 and couldnt miss.. He opened the last two frames of the 3rd game to miss 800. It was frustrating to say the least to see that then mine was doing the opposite. Only two weeks left in that league then it is only Mondays. I filled in for a friend to finish this league with only 7 weeks left and am eager to start the league off in September for a full season.
Sunday Elite Bowlers Tour - I played in a scratch tournament yesterday. It was a 42 foot "gold digger" pattern that was not terribly hard but if you missed a couple boards outside you were missing right of the 3 pin. I shot 204, 194, 154, 191, 214. I came in 9th place and was 20 pins away from 4th. The middle game killed me but it seemed like 90% of the people in the tournament who bowled on that one pair bowled that low. It was only my second sport shot tournament ever and my goal was to average 180. I averaged 191 and cracked the top 10 so am pretty happy.
Found a coach that has a pretty extensive record on the WPBA and hope to get started soon. Looking forward to see how much better I can become.

A couple updates since the last post:
Monday Night mixed league - Shot a 634. I do not remember the individual games but it was nothing special. one game in the 190s and two games over 200. My average went down to 230 from 237.
Thursday Night Mens League - Started out with a 182. The ball would not come up for anything. I should have used my paradox but I am so stubborn that I just kept moving right with the swerve. The second game the lanes broke down and I shot a 255 with an open in the 10th frame. The third game the lanes really broke down and I was the only one on my lanes over 200. Shot a 262 with a 278 pace going into the 10th. The second ball was a pocket 5-7-10 (yes you read that right). Everyone within 3-4 lanes on both sides stopped and just laughed. It was on lane 9 which is known for these kind of leaves. Ended up with a 699. Raised my average in that league from 212 to 214.

Been a couple weeks since I last updated.
I had to miss the last week of Mens Thursday night bowling but the following week was the Roll Off (Which we missed by 3 points). The remaining people could enter a handicap sweeper mini tournament. I shot 765 with 36 pins of handicap and got 2nd. The guy who won had the exact same scratch score but had more handicap and beat me by 24 pins.
Monday night league. I have been slumping in this league over the last 2 weeks as my average of 245 has been slowly going down as the weeks go by. I was down to a 228 last week but shot a 233, 275, 202 to shoot 710. My average is back up to 229.66. My goal is to keep it above 230 but realistically I would like at least a 225.
I also need to finally contact a coach which I keep telling myself I am going to do every week. Just seems like the weeks keep slipping by.

J..... I've seen too many balls come out of that shop questionably drilled wrong. A pin down ball typically starts rolling earlier than a pin up ball. It depends on who's drilling it (I bowl in the same league as you, so I know who's who) and what you tell them. Unfortunately, you have to be very specific as to what you want the ball to do and you really should do some homework for yourself and figure out what you want the ball do do. The internet is full of information from pro shops across the country that'll set you on the right track.

jconner, tampabayBob is a great coach and went to the pro shop there with me and told them how to drill my ball....I used it today for the first time and it does just what he said it would. If you need a coach in tampa you found Bob!

That is so weird because when the pin was down below my fingertips it did not move one bit and was late if anything even though they said it was one of the strongest drillings. I went to BCB and had it redrilled to pin over and it moves exactly how I want it. Thank you for the information and I will definitely do some more homework on drillings!

Jconner, tampabaybob has brought me a long way in 3 weeks. My ball is moving and carrying like never before, He worked on my release , timing and concentration. I am impressed with myself now. matter of fact we just came from a session, my confidence level is great now and it's nice to know what your doing wrong and be able to correct it quickly.

Started a new Thursday summer league at Oakfield with an interesting format. It is 4 bowlers with the first game being singles against the other team, then doubles the second game, then team score the third game. I ended up bowling a 233-234-248 for a 715. I missed two 10 pins with the second one coming in the 10th frame of the 248 3rd game. I was not thrilled at how I ended that but you can't really be mad at a 715. Be amazing what I could do if I actually woke up early on sundays to go practice.

Monday Night Summer League:
I bowled a 234 - 249 - 232 to shoot a 715 series. I opened in the 10th of the last game which was really my only bad miss of the night other than a brooklyn strike in the 10th frame of the second. The brooklyn ball got out way too early and then snapped hard. That actually won us the game though LOL I was so embarrassed. My last three league nights have been 710-716-715 so I can't really complain other than a missed 10 pin. I usually miss one or two of those a night. Have yet to get a 800 but I can feel it coming.

Thursday Night Summer league:
After last weeks opening 700+ series I had 0 handicap this week and we faced a team that started out 255 pins ahead of us. The first game was singles and I bowled a 179. 2nd frame I hit pocket and somehow left the 5-7. The 5 was ringing around and around but never fell. Then the 7th frame the ball jumped through the nose and split. Throw in some pocket 10s and 7s and you get a 179. The guy had like 80 pins of handicap and shut me out in the 6th or 7th frame. The second game I was finally getting some carry and shot a 245. I left a split in the 2nd ball of the 10th and missed hitting anything on the 2nd throw. Well I didnt know but we needed 1 pin for the win and we ended up tieing. Then in third game I shot a 234 and we lost the team score by 2 pins. I ended up with a 658 series which isnt terrible considering the first game. Overall we were 4 pins difference between 6 and 11 points out of a possible 12 points. Was frustrating to say the least.

Sunday Elite Bowlers Tour Tournament:
There was an interesting tournament at oakfield that was 6 games with half long pattern (46') and half short (36'). Started off in the long pattern with a clean 208 and then 185 in the short pattern. This where it started to get a little crazy. I went back to the long pattern and after coming from the short pattern I left a few outside that never came back. Then back to the short pattern, the oil moved down the lane and it wasnt hooking as much as the first game. Ended the last 4 games 166, 171, 166, 168. Those 4 games all had their fair share of strikes and opens. I just couldnt find a steady groove. Ended up 9th out of 21 people which isnt terrible but could have done better.

Monday Night League:
After bowling the 6 games the previous day I admit I was not really looking forward to bowling this night. I bowled a 220-173-245 for a 638. The 173 I got a pocket 7-10 in the 2nd frame and it lost my motivation for the rest of the game but then got it back the last game.
In other news............ I finally contacted a coach! wooooo! I have my first lesson with Lucy Sandelin in 3 weeks. Hopefully this will make me more consistent and help me get to the next level.

Thursday night league:
Started out with a 267 out of the gate. The second game I struck out in the 10th to shoot a 215. I missed a 10 pin in the 6th frame. Last game I shot a 190 with a missed 10 pin in the 9th frame. I was beyond livid at this because the first 10 pin I missed was barely right then the next one was barely left of it. This also put our team score in a tough spot but their team opened in 3 out of 4 10th frames and we ended up winning by 4 pins. Ended up with a 672 which will bring my average down a little but overall I threw the ball great.
Side note - The woman next to us had a 300-290 after 2 games then shot a 243 in the last game for a 833. It was pretty amazing to watch.

Monday Night:
Well it was my return after a week off from burning my thumb, index, and middle finger. I bowled absolutely terrible. I believe it was a 533 series with 4 missed 10 pins. I could not find a line and my middle finger was kind of bothering me. I hope that Thursday night will be better because I dont see how it could get worse. I have a lesson with Lucy Sandelin on Saturday which should help a lot.

How do you like the EBT tournaments? Is that the one Boz runs?

They are run by Gary Gordon. I like them a lot even though they only get about 20-30 people in the scratch portion. They are run smooth and not a bad payout either.
