I do not understand the problems I'm having on Thursday nights (wood lanes) versus Friday nights (synthetic).

Last night on wood:
185-161-185=531

Tried the Storm Byte, Storm Crux and Roto Grip Menace. Left 6-10 pins (made 4 of 6), 2-6 pins (2of 2) and picked up the 3-6-10, 3-9, 4-5, 3-9-10 and 7. Missed the 7, 4-6, 2-8, 2-4-5, 9 and 4. Leaves were all over the map. Frustration ran rampant, which I'm sure didn't help. I'm now averaging only 187 on the wood lanes.

Tonight on synthetic:
223-280-223=726

Found a good shot in practice on the Byte. Picked up the 1-2-4-10, 5, 7, and 10. Missed on the 10 twice and the 6-10. My average in this league is now 217.

A tale of 2 buildings.

Upon further reflection, I watched a PBA broadcast a few weeks ago, and Tom Daugherty used a urethane ball to win a tournament. I seem to recall Randy Pedersen making the comment that, since the urethane doesn't soak up the oil, and only sort of spreads it around, that it gave the bowlers using reactive balls fits. I wonder if there's something to that theory, because a teammate of mine on the wood lanes refuses to pony up some money to buy something other than the original Blue Hammer urethane ball. Is that ball screwing up my game, or do I just suck on the wood lanes? Time will tell.

So many different combination of leaves, spares and misses. Made only 50% of spares. Have NO idea what fell apart after 1st game. Even when I did put the ball in the pocket in the 3rd game, I'd leave a 7-10. After that, I was so peeved that I quit trying. Average is now a 185, my lowest since the 90's. Can you say "frustration?"

Tonight on synthetic:

Had a good look all night, but made a few very poor throws. Average in this league is now 216.

I simply do not understand the problem between the two houses.

Had a good look with Storm Crux in warm ups. Opened frame 1, and bad thoughts immediately started. Left 3 10-pins (missed 1) and opened in 10th (fanned on the 6-10). Switched balls to the Storm Byte, and clean till the 10th, where I threw it a tad slow and left a 4-6-10. Clean 3rd game. League average increased to 188.

Had a great look with Roto Grip Menace. Swish 7 in 5th after first four and odd 5 pin in 6th. Struck out. Started to lose good carry in 2nd. Swish 7, chopped 3 off the 6, picked up 10 and 2 and missed 10. Switched to Storm Byte for third game, and felt like I had better carry. Picked up 10, 2, smash 9 and a horribly tossed 1-2-4-7. League average now a 219.

11/11/16 on synthetic - 268,290,219=677 (Opened with first 8, then tugged it and left a 2, then a solid 9 in 10th. Had 5 opens tonight - that's a lot for this high a series.)
11/17/16 on wood - 216, 204, 189=609 (My best at this pace in more than 2 months!)
11/18/16 on synthetic - 214,207,225=646 (Only 1 open all night - a missed 10 pin, of course.)

Friday night league on synthetic ended a week ago, so this last week was 9-pin no tap sweeper. We won the league, and I ended up with a 214 average. Ended up the first half of the Thursday league on wood with a 191 average. I continue to struggle.

First set of games with my new Storm Optimus Solid which the local alley replaced for my Roto Grip Menace, which was absolutely destroyed. I had NO practice with this ball.

Bowled great the first game, except for a horrible ball in the 10th, leading to a whiffed washout. Solid 2nd game with a whiff on the 6-10 in the 1st frame. The 3rd game felt like a 9-pin no tap night. I left a pocket 5, 2 10 pins and 2 9 pins. The good news is that a new owner closed on the purchased over the holidays and will start replacing the 30+ year old wood lanes with synthetic in February.

Crash back to earth tonight, likely a result of temperatures in the middle of winter in Texas of near 90 today, and the local bowling alley decided that this week was the time to install new HVAC units, and work not yet complete. Yes, I was sweating the entire time tonight, leading to horrible release problems.

Alternated between the Storm Byte and Optimus Solid. In addition to the newly replaced wood lanes with synthetic, the approaches were newly sanded. I started playing hockey in the late 60's, and these approaches were slick as ice! One guy on our lanes even switched from bowling to tennis shoes. To top it off, I suddenly developed a blister on the outside of my thumb. Since I started bowling again 4 years ago after a 15 year hiatus, I have NEVER developed a blister. WTF! New average 195.
