I went bowling over the weekend. Shot a couple of 200's, and something in the 160's, I believe.

Last game, and toward the end of game #2, my thumb started bothering me. I have a blister where my thumb joint meets the fleshy part of my palm, right in the middle of my thumb.

The blister basically resembles this:

I have one of these:

But it didn't really seem to do any good.

I (briefly) talked to the Pro Shop guy before I left, and he told me it's because I'm "gripping the ball too tight".

I don't 100% buy it.

Could that be the problem, or could the ball simply be drilled wrong?

I had a ball a LONG time ago when I was younger and actually bowled in a Junior league, and this particular issue never came up. Otherwise I wouldn't have been able to bowl weekly.

So I'm wondering if the ball is drilled wrong. I'd like to upgrade my equipment at some point to something with a little more hook to it, but I want to get this thumb problem taken care of first.

Typically if you got a blister at the base of the thumb you look and see if you need a little more bevel or if the hole is too big.

If the hole is a little too big, it can cause you to grip the ball more. which would go with what the PSO told you.

So check the bevel and maybe add some tape and see how it goes.

If your still having problems have your grip checked if it's been a while since you had it done last.

A thing to remember is it doesn't matter how your ball fit back when you were younger, our hands change over the years. That's why you should have your span, pitches, sizes etc. checked every so often.
