I was just looking at urethane options yesterday. Lately it feels like I'm constantly hearing people talk about getting something stronger with more hook, but I've been so much more successful with the predictability of "weaker" equipment. Adding a urethane ball to my arsenal is definitely in my future.

This ball is sweet when it comes to burned up/dry lanes! Doesn't matter if it's a long or short pattern either.
Traditional urethane reads in the first 25ft. The BTU doesn't read until much later, and has a very slow predictable path to the pocket.
The cover stock was designed to absorb oil, whereas a urethane ball pushes the oil down lane with it.
The BTU has the same I Block core as the Fanatic, but the density was changed to make the ball so it wouldn't hook like the Fanatic.
BTU=Better Than Urethane. And it sure is!

Just watched a review on YouTube about this ball. Realizing I had never thrown anything urethane I have no clue what this bowl would do for me. I'm kind of a hybrid player so it's hard for me to watch those videos and compare.

I pretty much only bowl on Saturday afternoons after the little kids' league has burned the lanes to scorched earth. Sounds like this ball is a good fit for me.

I've seen this ball in action during a tournament. This ball will hook when the pattern is short or the lanes are fried, but it doesn't jump left when it hits the dry. Very controllable and if I don't win it, I will eventually buy it.

I'm old. My first 300 was with a rubber ball. Then the next ones were all urethane. The last 4 have been reactive resin balls.

Little kids don't burn the lanes to scorched earth.
It may be that the Friday night leagues burned the lanes, and the proprietor doesn't feel the little kids are worth spending the money to oil the lanes for them.
What is more likely is the little kids have caused significant carry down.
Most of their shots will start in the middle of the lane (where the most oil is) and due to a lack of accuracy, will go pretty much everywhere down the lane.
One possibility (the burn) is the ball you throw has lost axis rotation too early and can't generate a good angle to the pocket...
if that's the case, the BTU might be right for you.
Another possibility (carry down) where your ball would normally hook, it's going straight and again it can't generate a good angle to the pocket.
The the second possibility is the case, the BTU is not the solution.

One of the guys I bowled with over the summer and last year bought one and loves it. Would love to add id to my arsenal, small as mine is. (2 strike balls, one spare ball)

Brunswick was the only brand I owned my first 10 years of bowling. I have not bought a Brunswick in 30 years, maybe it's time I get back to the brand where it all started for me. I want this ball.

I have spent too much time with Perl balls, time to try other options. This would be an interesting change.

The ball isn't actually black it is called Steel the color is kind of
a dark gray but at certain angles it does look black though.

When I talk to the PSO's here in Vegas, this is the one ball that is still flying off the shelves. Even my own PSO can't keep enough in stock and is ordering them just about every day.
When I was watching the Fall Classic at South Point, the Brunswick/DV8 bowlers were doing much better with the BTU. Some of them were drilled just before they bowled.

I'm sure you're right.
Up until about a month ago I was rolling a 50 year old rubber ball I inherited from my grandfather, so any reaction is foreign to me at this point.

Is the btu a spare ball or a strike ball for drier lane conditions?

Is the btu a spare ball or a strike ball for drier lane conditions?
You could use it for both, but when used for a spare ball, the intention is for the ball to go straight.
Price wise, you're better off getting a cheap price ball for spare shots, and only use an expensive price ball for strikes.
When thrown at spares, the ball is more likely to receive damage due to rougher or sharper objects in or near the gutters compared to smooth lane surface down the middle.

I use a Motiv Rebel Tank for my spare ball, and it has saved me several times when I've walked into a house for open bowling, and they haven't oiled since the embargo. Plus it's fun sometimes to see how well you can do with it. Mike is right, though. A lot more of a hit on the wallet.

The BTU is not a ball that has a lot of flip. It has a very slow, controlled move to the pocket, and has a ton of hit & pin action.
Maybe this is the ball I need !

Anyways, I'm super pumped. Can't wait to try a urethane, and I think I'm going to give bowlingball.com's drilling service a shot for the first time, too.

Yes you were the first to respond in this thread, but it was on Oct 28th.
Congrats on the win... you didn't rig the deal, just the selector(s) didn't follow the rules.

Think more along the lines of the 19th century, and tie that into how collinwho won a ball.
