I'm pretty sure most of you are familiar with these AMF/Brunswick? score screens.

The one thing that has always bugged me (yes, I'm petty:)) are how the X's come out

They aren't identical. Frames 1-3 are different than 4-10. It's a normal X right next to stretched out X

Yes, this is an OCD post...

Note this isn't my photo, just something I found online.

Ugh. It looks like instead of simply saying "write X or /" they wrote a routine that says "starting in the corner, draw a diagonal line 45% of the way across the box", then let the boxes change size based on the frame scores.

That has to be an open bowling score sheet. League bowlers would not like those gaudy colors. Never seen a screen like that before.

Just dawned on me, the reason the 4th frame is stretched out is to accommodate 3 digit score (100+). 3rd frame max is 90 so no need for larger box. But the X should still be drawn identical on each and every frame. And 10th frame X is back to normal due to three possible score marks "X81"

Sometimes your engineers decide to take the design on for themselves. This is what you get when that happens.

This type of screen is very common, at least here in Denver area. The other common one is Qubica

How wide is the screen?

Not sure, probably around 32-40". Not too big

That would annoy me too.

What would annoy you?

The X's being different, the topic of the thread...

I'm glad someone else agrees. It's a small thing but I'm kind of OCD like that. If I get a string of strikes I want them all to match darnit :)

It's the between frame cartoons I can't stand. Especially the ones that insult you after a split or open.

You can turn them off. The only ones we see are the 7-8-9-10-11 in a row and 300 game ones. At least Brunswick has it.

Ours are always on and have sayings like " bumper bowling is available " or " nice channel ball ". I'm sure there were worse ones.

Maybe the scoring system can sense when you've got a lucky strike, and it makes the X look different.

That way when you say something like.. "It looks the same on the score board", they can rightly say... "No it doesn't"

Just what bowling needs, a scoring system within a scoring system. Lucky strikes are only worth 8 pins. All strikes must be 10-back or they don't count.

Just wait until you have to deal with the Russian Judge on style points.
