So after listening to the guy I bowl with and trying every thing he said to try, I gave up. I decided to put aside a day and practice by myself. I don't know if it was a good decision but I think I have gotten better at hooking the ball. A Storm Fight. I found by sending the ball out till it almost lands in the gutter it comes back and lands in the sweet spot. I don't get a lot of strikes but I am getting more. So it looks like more time practicing during the week. A bit dangerous putting the ball so close to the gutter though.

Sounds good! Just be aware that if you're bowling in leagues the oil may be different than when you were practicing by yourself. It's a good sign that you're hitting the "dry area" and having it come back into the pocket though - as long as you're not forcing spin on the ball and letting it do the work.

Instead of listening to the guy you bowl with, find a Certified Coach and get some proper instruction to get you started. You are throwing a $200 bowling ball. Isn't it worth a few bucks to learn how to use it?
