I bowl on a THS league that has a 42' long pattern. The house before this one which was Brunswick was 42'. When we bowled at AMF lanes it was like 38'. Plus AMF lanes had less oil on boards 1 to 10. I remember that I could use my Hammer Blue urethane ball and I could make it hook like a resin ball. Not so on the Brunswick or Lisle Lanes house patterns. Does anyone here bowl in a THS house pattern that is less then 42'? And is it easy to hook your ball where you bowl?

A THS here in Vegas can run from 38ft to 42 ft.
I bowl at the Orleans and Texas Station and they are both 40ft.
As far as getting hook on the ball, a THS is the easiest of all oil patterns to get a ball to hook because of lack of oil not only to the outside, but, but due to the very low volume of oil period.

I bowl in 2 AMF houses regularly and both THS have less oil than the other 2 centers I bowl at which are private. The AMF centers both oil from 10-10 while the privates oil 5-5 & 8-8 respectively. No matter the length I've never had an issue hooking the ball on a THS.

Ours is 38'. 5 to 5. I'm not sure of the volume but it's pretty light. By game 3 you can really wheel on it.

They used to use mineral oil instead of Lane oil too. Not sure if that's still true or not. It's cheaper, not flammable, and edible.

We have 46' 8 to 8 just not enough of it.

We have 41' this year. Last year was 40'

I think currently for fall leagues one house has 38' and the other has 43'. Both Brunswicks - go figure.

We are on a 39" pattern. Remember that AMF tend to lanes have more friction than Brunswick Pro-Anvilane

40' in South Milwaukee, but it's a heavy 40.

We have 46' 8 to 8 just not enough of it.
Not enough of what?? It can only refer to some thing earlier in the sentence. Yo really need a pattern longer than 46" or wider than eighth board to eighth board?
And the question was do you bowl on a pattern LESS than 42'
Don't mean to be this grouchy but it is Monday.;)

Our THS is always 40'. I think the actual pattern changes depending on day of the week, but they keep the length the same. Mondays I think they lay down the Kegel "Wall Street" pattern- if you get it out, it comes back.

The pattern here is basically 41', (I've walked down the lanes and looked. The buff ends between 40'-41'.) It's not a large volume of oil either.

I wish we had 40', or even 38'. The AMF house I bowl in for leauges not only has a short pattern of 36', the surface is high friction - SPL lanes.
Thankfully the new lane guy or manager added a little more volume to make it last last longer.
I play the track with the blue hammer 75% of the time. I also use a Storm breeze which allows me to play the track or just inside the track. I wish I could play outside like the higher speed, lower rev players, but I'm pushed left. Even with a plastic ball with a big core, I some times struggle keeping the ball right.

I know I'd want a pattern longer than 46 inches! and that would be less than 42' ;)

39 inches! Boy these short patterns are spreading.

Reply to bowl1820 about 39" pattern.
You would definitely need a ball with a 10,000 grit surface but also play inside. I think he meant 468" which would be 39' so he was a little off in the length.

My house the past few years has used the Red, white and blue patterns throughout the season. This year, they went with just a THS of 40' and some cheap Kegal oil that our proprietor got on sale. He's all about cheap lol. It breaks down weird. Some nights you're moving left after practice, some nights you start left and move right. It also doesn't help that our oiler is a 16 year old Kegal machine that they don't even make new parts for lol. Referbished parts only go so far. I'd prefer if we had a little more length like a 41' or 42', but if you go that length, you need to watch the volume. Get too much volume out there, it can affect carry down (especially on a mixed league)

38' at the one house here. was 39 last year but they kept he same volume and walled up more and shortened it.
great for up and in guys (high speed or low rev outside lines) or the wheelers (high rev/low speed playing 20+ on fresh shot) but anyone in between has had issues this year. instead of a big hill of oil it's now a mountain with cliffs at 15 and 10

I play on a 37 footer, with anything outside of 9 being OOB due to the lane machine being less than wonderful. Fun times, averaging 200 is by far top of the league.
