I quit my afternoon senior league. I had issues with the pace and the socializing instead of bowling. I am a man with zero patience and anxity issues. I got upset everytime I went and got home in a bad mood all the time. I will still bowl with a friend or alone until I can get good enough to join a real league

how slow is the pace that you left the league and your team?

As much as I hated a teammate, the house, or league, I still wouldn't walk out on my other teammates. I am in a situation where I don't want to be in right now and I want out. But I cannot leave my teammates hanging.

Bummer. I know the feeling some weeks. This past week we were still in the 3rd frame of the final game when every other pair was done - our opponents just moved so slow. Perhaps in addition to doing some open bowling with your friend, you can find some leagues you would be comfortable subbing in on occasion.

Hang in there! You'll find a league that fits better.

I want off of my team because of pace of play but will finish the season and then leave this team. We finish last every week because of 1 guy who doesn't even stand up to bowl until his name is up for a couple of minutes.

We have a guy on our Thursday night league like that he is always standing around
talking to someone at the other end of the center or sometimes right at the back of
our pair of lanes or at the snack bar getting beer. We have to go hunt him down most
of the time or holler at him to come bowl as he is usually pretty well lit up (drunk).

We have a team that is done last every week, and it is comprised of guys all under 30. Pretty good bowlers but they take forever every night.

One thing that drives me nuts in a lot of the senior leagues in Vegas is the insistence on a two-lane courtesy. That being said, half of the bowlers jump up before it's their turn to finish off a spare. They jump up, take half the time that they take on their strike shot, and then wonder why they miss the spare. Personally, I'd like to see a one lane courtesy, where everyone bowls in turn and is ready to bowl when it's their turn... I guess that's just too much to ask.

Unless in tournament, there is no reason for two lane courtesy. Just get horse blinders

Unfortunately, most league bowling has turned into pure socializing with the bowling aspect being secondary. It should not take 10 people on a pair over three hours to bowl 3 games. That is one of the biggest things causing a downturn in league participation. It is understandable to want to talk to teammates and friends, but when it is your turn in the lineup get up there and just do it. One lane courtesy is all that is needed in leagues. Two lane courtesy is ridiculous.

It doesn't really matter what team you bowl on, you will face some of the same situations because you will bowl against or next to the slower or annoying bowlers, the teams I am on are comprised of guys who are ready to bowl when it's their turn but we still end up finishing late when playing the 2 lane courtesy or stand there forever teams.

The best thing to do might be to find a way to distract yourself and not let it get to you, it's just a fact of bowling, there will be slow bowlers to contend with, there will be guys who stay on the approach to wait for their ball to shoot the spare, there will be guys who are busy talking or wandering around, there will be teams with balls overflowing the ball rack, there will be guys who run out for a smoke or get caught in line at the snack counter or the bar.

There will be guys that trash talk and ones that give you unsolicited advice ....it's all part of the game .......and if they see that whatever they do gets you upset and screws with your game they will continue to do it. It's not like the average league guy is bowling for a living so try not to let the little things bother you, just go out and have fun.

I agree 100 percent here. Paying to do any recreational activity, must be fun.

In my Thursday league we are first shift, with a league pretty close behind us - so we have to be off the lanes by a certain time. This still doesn't stop a few teams from taking their sweet time talking, socializing, etc... it actually makes me antsy when I know we're behind in that league as I can understand being courteous for the next league. This week when all other teams were done, one pair was on frame 2 of game 3. Not sure what happened there, I didn't stick around to find out.

I get annoyed when it takes other bowlers a while to bowl, specially when its the same people all the time. We have a guy in the league when he is on the approach, he takes 30 seconds to roll the ball. Too much thinking for me. Everyone gets annoyed with guy!

I was in a men's scratch league with some local pros and serious league bowlers. We didn't observe two lane courtesy. We started at 7 and we're done before 9 plus alcohol. So, to be in a league with 3 bowlers per team, and take 2.5 to 3 hours to get done is really trying....

I was away from league for some time, so coming back and having a two lane courtesy was a new thing for me. I've gotten used to it. I still can't get used to the guys that don't get up to bowl when it's time, and if you're that guy who stands on the lane waiting for your ball to come back, be prepared. I will call you on that!

Hmmm. Well, senior leagues I have found are notoriously slow. And slower depending on the average age of the bowler. I give them a great deal of credit if they are there bowling when they are close to 90!!! Don't bowl as many strikes so it takes twice as long because they have to bowl two balls for each frame, but they are there and they are cranking those balls down the lanes. Need patience for sure!!!

I have pretty much learned what guys are looking for 2 lanes of courtesy and for the most part I will go along with it, but there are a couple of guys who are kind of jerks about it and I know it bugs them so I'll go ahead and bowl .....

One of the teams I was on last winter, got me a bit frustrated. We had one bowler who insisted on getting a high five after every frame. Didn't matter what she bowled, she had to have a high 5.

One of the guys was a senior, but only had 2 interests. Getting drunk and socializing.

The other guy was a socializer as well, but he was always ready to bowl. He was also looking to get better and more consistent. He just got up to the line and let it rip! But when I got him to slow down his approach and release, he was much better.

I got annoyed with the constant high fives and very slow pace, but since I committed myself to the team for the season, I was not going to bail out on them no matter how annoying it was.

I do bowl in a senior league right now, and while it's a slow pace I don't mind it. I actually prefer a slow pace and they're no bad bowlers.

Yes, at the age of 54, I am one of the younger players there, but they're actually a pretty good bunch and I enjoy bowling with them.

One of my teammates had to quit for health issues and during the middle of one of our games they said, oh, by the way, you're the new team Captain! lol

About 15 years ago I was bowling in a fun league with my wife and another couple. The wife of the other couple only got out of the house to bowl in this league (after she deposited her kids with the baby sitter). She was so adamant about high fives on every shot that on one occasion, when she threw a rare strike, I high-tailed it to the men's room to avoid her. Low and behold, when I came back out, there she was standing with her hand in the air, waiting for her high five. She also did her "turkey dance" when anyone threw three in a row. Needless to say, we didn't bowl with them again. LOL

Ya know, high fives don't bother me. I see it as a "post" shot routine for a lot of people. Of course if their preshot includes them licking their fingers then they may get a fist bump lol.

Now, the playing hide and seek when it's your turn to bowl I have little patience for.

We have a guy who not only wanders off, he is nearly deaf so he can't hear someone call for him and he also gets up on the wrong lane at least once a game and stands up on the lane for at about 15 seconds lining up his shot, so he's a triple threat of annoyance ! He is a nice guy and still averages over 200 and he's 75, so I guess we should give him a break.

One time he was nowhere to be found and we discovered he was down at the far end of the house 40 lanes away coaching a kid he knew.....

Of the annoying habits the guys who are always late might be the most annoying, guys that always get there when you've got 3 frames done and should have had more but their teammates slowed down enough to let them get there in time to bowl catch up ......seems like those teams are usually the last ones done.

I was recruited by one guy who I met during the summer Wednesday practice league. No pressure, no teams just pick a pair and bowl with whoever is on it. I had just started bowling again after 25 years. Found out the game has changed a lot. Bought new equipment got some coaching and was shooting good. 170 and even a few 200+ games and a 235..My league average is 154, that says something right there. So he asked me weekly to join his team, I didn't even know him well. So I did. As in my first post I suffer from anxiety and patients issues, I feel I'm not ready for any 3-4 hour experience at this time. The team has no issue with me leaving. They seen how I got during the second hour or so. As far as letting the team down I think first place pays 80.00 a person and a free trip to Golden Corral...I should be bowling right now and there is a little guilt but I think they will have a better time without me bringing them down.

To save face I contacted my team and told them I would come back if they needed. I felt really guilty leaving my first league in 25 years. They already had gotten a replacement s o the guilt is gone but my senior league name may be shot....Maybe not since some knew is was illness that got me....We'll see next season, a summer league will help me I think.

Well that's good to hear. You still happy about your decision to leave?
I have learned that being on the right league makes all the difference.

exactly, I'm sure I was on the wrong league or at least the wrong team, as I said I was pulled on to this team only knowing one guy and not really knowing him except by sight. . They were pretty quiet and not really there. I bowled this week after not bowling since January and when I went there were some of my league people there. They came right over to me and asked if I was ok. I just explained that after 25 years I wasn't ready for a league. (patients issue) I shot 3 practice games next to an guy I kind of knew and we were joking around with shi!! talk, I took him 2 out of 3...lol and shot over average...lol. Then a guy tells me they are looking for someone for the Sunday night league. But really? how would that look saying I wasn't ready for a league and then join another. So I just said I will wait for the summer and try again in a summer league. At least now I am not afraid to walk into the place and show my face. I need to sell my Storm Phaze with like 15 games on it, but do not want to give it away, I will try to sell it local. Having that ball in my bag makes me keep wanting it to work and it just doesn't work for me.

any idea what I should ask for it. it is pin up so all someone would been is maybe move the thumb and finger inserts if it doesn't fit....

The right league and team certainly make a difference and there are also some bowlers that use video games as distractions between frames, played against a guy last week that never hardly said a word the whole 4 games because he was playing SIM city the whole time.....said he does it because otherwise he is bugged by all the things going on around him. Before and after the games if you're a friend he'll talk your ear off.
