Quick background.
I started bowling when I was 10. Bought my first reactive resin ball (and fingertip) ball when I was 18.
I never had any coaching other than other bowlers on league that would sometimes put their 2 cents in. I practiced every weekend trying to get the ball to make some type of movement on the back end. Put it all together and bowled that way for many years. I had 2 discs explode in my back and didn't bowl for about 12 years.
Finally got to a point where I could bowl pain free early last year. I started watching videos, reading, and taking vids of my practice sessions. I had been doing so many things wrong and had no idea. Everything from timing to my release. I never really kept my wrist firm and came around the side of the ball, and very early at that.
I have been trying to improve these points of my game and have been making some great progress.
On to my release. As I said, I would come around the side of the ball and slightly on top, and would turn early, often before the bottom of my swing. I used dots to map my PAP. Finally was able to get it right.
4 11/16 over 11/16 up
I have since been able to keep my wrist firm, stay a lot more behind and under the ball. I am able to get out much more cleanly and revs have greatly increased.
Today at the demo I had asked one of the shop guys if he could map out my PAP since they had an armadillo on hand. I threw several shots and mapped it twice on the shots that were good off my hand. Then put tape on the PAP and threw several more to confirm. The new PAP is
5 over and 1-3/16 up
I knew my PAP had changed, but my PSO said he doubts it has changed much at all, or if it had it was a negligible amount.
This seems like a big change. And I have never seen a PAP that was that much above center. It was verified twice, and with a very similar ball with the same layout.
Is it reasonable it has changed this much?
Why is my above center a lot higher than what I usually see?
I can tell you my track lines have changed as well. I use to nearly clip the thumb hole and be 3" or so way from the fingers. And now it appears to be much closer to the fingers and atleast an inch from the thumb now.
If you made it this far, thank you for reading. I wanted to be thorough, but slightly became a small book haha.
