Well the winter season has started and the Kings and Queens league is pretty much the same as last year.

The big changes are handicap which was changed to 90% of 260! Which was perplexing to many. Plus they changed the lane oil to Kegel Fire oil, which has a higher viscosity than the old oil (Fire: Viscosity: 45.1 cps, Surface Tension: 23.6 dynes/cm) and should hold up better through the night.

Noticed a slight problem, they had the entering averages wrong. Which they have to check, so wins & loss's tonight are up in the air. I think I know what they did, we have a split season and I think they took the averages from the half not the whole season.

Well there was also a 300 shot tonight, It was by one of the players that I wouldn't be surprised would shoot one.

Well not a bad start for the season, I shot a 176-177-201 for a 554 which was 44 pins over last season average.

Strikes 27.27%
Spares 73.91%
Opens (5) 16.67%

Used the Pyramid Blunt Force for all three games, Had the surface a 1000 US grit (approx. P2000 abralon) the OOB is 2000abralon/Polish. Worked pretty good, The new oil seemed to hold up well actually seen some oil come back on my ball for a change.

Besides my usual post of the "Best Bowling Free" tracking file, I've include a sample of the file produced by the new android App "Bowl!Drill!Score!Stat!" which I'm testing out.

any advantages to the new stat keeper?

Well it has loads of options and its cheap at .99 cents for one person tracking. You can upgrade for $5 to do more people. They had a free give away here awhile back, thats when I got it.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=evets.neg.tbe&hl=en

You can track balls used, where you stand, the line used, lane patterns, notes on each frame, gives several knds of reports, you can search your data.

You can setup practice drills and keep track of how you do on them. Theres a ball speed calculator, check the link theres all knd of stuff.

The developer is real responsive to questions etc. he made some changes on stuff I suggested. Hes down here in florida around brandon. He made me one of his beta testers now.

The app is not hard to use once you know where everything is, there is a help function if needed.

I got in on the free giveaway for the app but haven't
tried it out yet. I guess I'll wait until the fall league
starts and then try using it I haven't figured it all out
yet but hopefully I can get use to it.

Well they posted the standings and I was right, they used the wrong entering averages. The up dated recaps showed the corrected scores, it didn't really change anything for us other than we got one more pin of handicap. I don't know how much it affected the other teams.

I'm pretty sure I figured out what happened, I looked through last seasons player averages week by week to see if they match up any where to the entering averages they used.

It appears when they pulled the averages up from last season, they didn't get the end of season averages. They pulled up the averages from the end of the first half of last season.

But at least they appear to have fixed it.

Okay Week 02 wasn't too bad.

The new Fire oil seems pretty good, the shot is holding up well for three games. Third game I still was getting oil back on the ball even, The line didn't change much as the night went on. Once I found the line, I was using the Blunt Force @1000. I moved in slowly as the night went on but not much, Third game actually moved back right slightly.

Missed spares were just my fault, first couple was because I didn't use my straight ball. The rest just bad shot making.

I think bowling on the sport league did help, the things I worked on in it. Projecting the ball, posting the shot etc. have helped my average is 22 pins over my entering average.

The Pyramid Blunt Force is really starting to work better now, I'm getting the feel of it more now.

Beside my regular tracking sheet, I've included a sample of one of the stat views from the new app. The new app is pretty good, But I kind of the like the game view from the old app a bit better. Just because it's a little slicker looking with the filled in strikes and spares.

We did good tonight, we took all the points and I should have a 4th bowler next week (Barring the coming storm interrupting us)

Well hurricane Irma didn't stop league bowling. While I've been without power for a few days now, the lanes had plenty.

We had a respectable turn out for league, Maybe about 2/3rds of the league showed up. I only brought 2 balls the Blunt and the spare ball, just in case there was a blackout.

There was only four on our pair tonight,2 on my team and 2 on the other. The shot was pretty good I like the new oil so far, it's holding up well.

Didn't do too bad, biggest problem was thumb & finger holes were tight at the start. Second game kind of fell apart, but came back in the third.

We took all the point so that was good, I should have a new team mate next week and my other one back hopefully.

Okay not a bad night, But it was a long one. We were the last ones done, We started at 6:30 and finished at a quarter to 10 everyone except the sec. was gone. I can't really put my finger on the cause, other than lots a of spares and the players taking a long time on making a shot. I got to watch and see if that other team takes that long usually.

I now have a full team! Got a 4th player who bowled on the league before a couple years ago and my other player is back from the evacuation. The new guy established average at a 167, His last years average didn't have enough games in to use it he had just subbed.

Well was using the Pyramid Blunt Force again and shot 192-183-191-566. After only 4 weeks my average is up 16 pins over last years dismal finish. So the sports league must of actually helped, I feel better about my shot making.

Strikes 48%
Spares 46%
Single Pin Spares 71%

We lost the first game by 4 pins and won the rest. Took 5 points we were in 2nd place (This might change do to some teams post bowling because of the hurricane), the worst we could do is tie for 4th now. So this is a good start compared to last season, at that time we were in 31st.

Good consistent night, with the Blunt Force! even shot a dutch 200, won a cookie for that. We took 4 out of 7 points which was okay. Plus I had my new glasses and could read the scoreboard better and really see the boards on the lane

I can pretty much tell you exactly what happened on each leave, I was really posting and watching each shot tonight.

The back row was because my speed was slightly fast, the 4pins speed was slightly slow, 4-7 pulled the ball one board left, the split and 2 washouts dropped the ball and pulled it. All the strikes were right in the hole, except for I think two which were Brooklyn because I tugged it.

Strikes 48%
Spares 81%
Opens 10%
Single pin spares 90%

Well we seemed to have a lot friction on this pair tonight. I had just freshened the surface on the Blunt Force and it was reading a little early, increasing speed helped a little. I tried moving in to the oil some, but it still felt too early.

But the second frame of the second game I switched to the Pyramid Curse and moved back right some, This gave me a better look.

But by the second frame of game three, I could see the shot for me was breaking down more.

Last game was the only one we won, first game we lost by 100 pins, 2nd lost by 106 (the other team was shooting way over) and game 3 we won by 106. Mainly Because My girlfriend shot 45 POA and my new guy got the front 7 for 232 game that was 67 POA.

Not particularly a bad night bowling, Started out with the Blunt Force. But switched to the Motiv Paranoia after the 6th frame of the 1st game, The Blunt was just feeling a little bit too early.

We only won one game, my team was only bowling just under average. The other team was bowling just over average and we were spotting themo team 74 pins.

Week 08 of league wasn't bad, we were down one player. We were basically bowling scratch, The team we were playing were spotting us 7 pins. But we had to take 10 off the blind of our missing our player, so we wound up giving them 3.

We did well though, we all bowled over average every game except my last one and we took all 7 points. Which was good next week is our first position round, as of week 7 we are in a four way tie for 5th place and only 5 points out of first. So theoretically if the other team break the points up right we could be in 1st for position night.

I used the Blunt force tonight, I should have changed the last game. The backend was feeling funky and the motion wasn't quite right, But I got a few frames into the game with the BF and I didn't feel like bothering to change after that.

Felt good picking up that first frame washout of the 3rd game, I moved left, threw the plastic ball straight down 5th arrow. Yep Norm was right going straight up the fifth arrow versus hooking the ball to the left of the head pin works way better.

Week 09 First Position round.

Tonight was our first position round of the first half, Last year at this time we were in 28th place in a threeway tie for 26th place. After that position round, we fell to 30th in a two way tie for 29th place.

This season going into the position round we were in 3rd place in a 5 way tie for 2nd place. After this position round we are now in a threeway tie for second place.

So we're having a better start this season, I've got a full team, averages are all up, our win percentage is up, Now if we can just keep it up.

Well this was a pretty weak night, we were down one person and all of us were shooting under average. We lost all points.

I noticed on our lanes and those around us, players had very similar leaves. I've seen this happening before, say your leaving the bucket a lot on your lanes. The lanes near you will have lots of buckets show up.

Well there's next week.

Excitement this week, A big shouting match broke out a couple of lanes over the last game (about frame 4) Not sure what it was about, someone not getting up to bowl quick enough, being on the cellphone, looking at someone the "Wrong way!"

The loudest voice picked his stuff up and walked out, so he got zeros for the remaining frames for a whooping 70 game. So his team lost that game, looking at the scores they most likely would have lost anyway.

This night wasn't too bad only missed three spares and we took 5 points. Now we're tied for 7th, 6 points out of first.

URETHANE! Well I've been reading the debates over urethane in the other forums and the podcasts. You know the ones, Urethane ruins the shot for everyone else, most low average league bowlers shouldn't use it etc.

Well I decided since it was the November slump, I couldn't do much worse. So I pulled the Faball Burgundy hammer back out and gave it another go. I got thumb tweaked with tape good, my foot didn't hurt this time. So I tried it out, in warm up and it looked pretty good and nobody complained I was going to ruin shot. So I started off with it and wound up using it all night, first full series with that ball in 20 years and I shoot a 600 series!

Of the multi-pin spares I left all but 3 were caused by me pulling my arm across my body. The last two was because the right lane was changing, so after leaving the 4-7-10 I moved left struck twice and then popped a 7 pin. Single pin spares were all pocket hits.

I was proud of that 4-7-10 pickup, I moved left and hit about 6th arrow with the hammer it was a perfect pick up.

That Urethane was so smooth going down the lane, My speed was down slightly do to it being 16lbs. But when it hit pocket, it crushed the pins.

We don't have bowling next week, But I can't wait to try it again and see how it does.

Well end of the half and a bad night, But I wasn't the only one.

We just started back after a 2 week break and it's position round end of the half. I tried my Urethane again, But I couldn't hold on to it for nothing.

I kept re taping the thumb hole and it felt good, but everytime I got to the release point it would fall right off. It was cold here and my thumb had shrunk right up. The Urethane looks good but until I change the grip I got to quit using it.

The good point of the night was even with those low scores I won brackets.

Well nothing to brag about, but slightly better than last week. That second game went plop, that blew way fast. In 3 frames I moved 10 boards with feet and 5 boards at the arrows, But couldn't keep from going into the nose. I should have changed balls sooner, switched to the curse in the 9th and got back on it some.

One of my team mates was popping 10 pins left and right about 7 in the 2nd game. he moved, changed balls but kept leaving them.

We lost all, the other team 3 women and a guy, were spotting us 72 pins. The first game they beat us by 104 pins, 2nd game 180 pins, last game we stepped it up best we could and only lost by 14 pins.

Hey Bowl1820, what app do you use to track your stats? Thanks.

The App that creates that chart is a old free app called "Best Bowling Free" it's for Ios and I use it on my Ipad. But it's no longer available on the app store.

I'm switching over to a new app called "Bowl! Drill! Score! Stat! it costs .99 cents and is for android devices you can't beat it. It has loads of options and its cheap at .99 cents for one person tracking. You can upgrade for $5 to do more people.

You can track balls used, where you stand, the line used, lane patterns, notes on each frame, gives several kinds of reports, you can search your data.

You can setup practice drills and keep track of how you do on them. Theres a ball speed calculator, check the link theres all kind of stuff.

"Premier Bowling Scorekeeper " aka:

You can Share a single game, series or all report results on Facebook, text, email, etc.

This is one of the charts it produces
(I think Best Bowling Free's chart is a little slicker looking though)

I was able to project the ball out properly for a change, because I had practiced keeping my hand in the position seen in this image (the ole underhand spiral football). Now if I could get as low as in this pic.

That's from a old bowling app for iphone/ipad called best bowling free (its not on the app store anymore though.). there are many others though. For android phones I recommend: Premier Bowling Scorekeeper (BDSS!) (aak: Bowl! Drill! Score! Stat! (BDSS)) .99 cents

example:
https://s5.postimg.cc/jrohqvng3/week_20.png (https://postimg.cc/image/jrohqvng3/)

But depending on the system your house uses, you could get a print out similar to that from them. We have the Qubica system and it will do a print out that shows the pin leaves/ strikes etc.
