I am getting a little older and have a bad slide knee so lost a lot of knee bend. Seem to be loosing the ball too much. The question is should I shorten the span and how much? Or should I use less reverse pitch in the thumb and how much? Or both or throw all my stuff in a river?

if you have a long span and a lot of reverse then yes, shortening the span and go forward with the thumb should help
I'm having the same problem loosing the ball. I shortened the span, but I need to go forward more with my thumb I'm at 1/8 right now and it's still coming off just a bit to soon.

Throw it all in the river as I have done on a couple of occasions. Aaaah J/K ;)
As bowl said you might want to change your span a little the best advice I
can give you is to go visit your PSO and have him/her take a look at your
span and go from there.
