not sure if this qualifies for this board but did anyone watch the PBA celebrity invitational yesterday? I started watching it on youtube this morning. and found it interesting to watch non pro's bowl.

I found that I DVR'd it, and deleted it without watching it. I think that it's a very sad commentary on modern bowling where the PBA offers so few opportunities to watch the world's top bowlers, and yet will waste our time showing a bunch of basketball players who don't have a clue how to bowl. Just my opinion.

interesting take on this. one possible plus, maybe more people will be interested in bowling. since I do not subscribe to any cable or sat provider I get to only watch online. back in the 80's watching the pros was part of my routine every saturday morning.

Just about every major event is on youtube these days.

I had it DVR'd. Watched for about 20 minutes, and deleted it.

My point was that it wasn't worth watching.

Well it sure appeared to me you made the point that it's hard to watch the worlds top bowlers when in reality almost every event is broadcast in some form or another.

Also, there were very few basketball players represented in the celebrity invitational this year. And actually some of the guys are quite good. Mookie Betts bowled a 300 in the 2017 World Series of Bowling back in November.

I just enjoyed watching Sara Rash with her wine right up front.

One, if there’s a chance to watch both Pete Weber and Norm Duke, at least part of it is worth watching.
Two, the doubles game was fairly good bowling. Norm was dialed in. Bill O’Neill was getting a good read off his teammates shots. Mookie Betts had one bad frame where he either did not adjust after leaving a 4 pin in the seventh, or just did not make a big enough move. Chris Paul was mostly lucky.

There are other celebrity pro-ams that are televised. Golf comes to mind. I don't think it's a sad state for the game to have a lighter event especially when proceeds are going to charity - and frankly, good on getting it televised at all to raise any awareness for both it and bowling in general. Chris Paul has done a lot for bowling through his career.

My guess is that pro golf doesn't have to pay to put their pro am on TV. Maybe the charity could have gotten more if bowling didn't have to pay to put the show on TV.
I don't know what bubba is talking about but sounds interesting. Explain more or put a picture on here.

Golf is televised every week, so one week of celebrities at Pebble Beach is a welcomed relief. My point was that there is so little professional bowling televised, and even less televised live, that for the PBA to be televising this event yearly is a slap in the face to the very sport that they are representing at the highest level. As for the comment about very few basketball players this year, I was using one group, based on Chris Paul's involvement, to make a point. Perhaps I'll have to forget about my 45 years as a professional writer and make sure I only write for the literally-minded here. Not!

lol... No worries mate. I'm a scientific writer, it has to be literal and objective.

And Like I have said multiple times now; there is more bowling broadcast now than ever before. Maybe not on a medium you are used to but it's there if you know where to look.

If you go into watching this with the mindset that it is all in fun and for a charity, you won't have any preconceived notions that this event is intended to showcase the best bowlers in the world.
They are there to have fun.

I watched it while I was cleaning the garage. Not something I needed to spend my attention in watching how everyone was playing the pattern, nor what ball they were throwing etc.
