Andy Penny recently became the first bowling coach from Northern Europe to earn United States Bowling Congress Gold-level certification. Overall, he is USBC's 33rd Gold-level coach.
Penny, 49, lives and works in Stevenage, Hertfordshire in the United Kingdom. He has been coaching for 28 years but has been involved with the sport of bowling for more than 30 years, many of which were spent as a successful tournament bowler.
Since transitioning exclusively to the coaching side, Penny has only continued to excel, becoming one of the region's most respected coaches due in large part to the countless hours he has spent helping others better understand the sport and achieve the same level of on-lane success he once enjoyed.
Despite the latest of his many accomplishments, Penny has no designs on slowing down; instead, he plans to use his Gold-level certification as a tool that will help him exert even greater influence on the bowling culture in Northern Europe.
"USBC-coaching certification has the most international recognition and credibility around the world," Penny said. "It is the most professionally-run program, and it does the best job of helping international coaches present bowling to the rest of the world."
Penny is expected to continue playing a pivotal role in bowling's global expansion in the years to come, and David Garber, High Performance Director of USBC Team USA, Coaching & International Training Center, will be happy to have him.
